Pilgrimage of the Maw - Ogres and maybe some other stuff too.

original thread ↗

So I got a whole load of ogres for painting some units of dogs of war for a friend when Ogre Kingdoms came out. I thought that it's probably about time I got them all painted.

I'm hoping that this gnoblog will spur me to get them done a little quicker than previously and maybe even finish them at some stage in the future. It will be slow, I'm studying and have a young family, so time is not in plentiful supply.

I have spent a long time thinking on a theme and really wanted them to stand out a bit and be my premiere army, well painted and good conversions. I came up with slavers on some kind of mad pilgrimage to the Maw to feed as many slaves as they could to it. All their faces are going to be masked in some way, lots of self mutilation and metal inserts was also an idea but I shall see how that goes.

Many of the metal figs I have are only just pinned in a basic fashion.

Tyrant/limited Ed bruiser
Hunter and 2 cats
butcher
gorger
scrap launcher
3 yettis ( painting these depends on the book and how good the new ones are, there are new ones coming right? )
9 ish trappers ( just remembered I have painted these )
2 man eaters ( again depends on the book and weapon options )

18 bulls ( 6 mostly painted )
8 ironguts ( started to paint some of them )
lots of gnoblars ( none painted, can't face it yet )
Giant ( half put together )
4 leadbelchers ( depending on new rules may be modified )

I think that's about it. Photos to follow.
Here are four of the bulls that I have done so far ( a couple of years ago now ) and you can see the IGs at the back. Still like that now hehe.
I went for desert bases but may change that. Don't like the current base look anyway.

Quite a bit to do on them if masks and mutilation are required, though one of them did make a maw on his head which may count.

MASKS
Here is the first concept for the bull masks. I kind of took inspiration from the tyrant mask. I will do the IGs with chain and metal plates etc for a more armoured look

Crikey they were bigger than I thought they were going to be :)
They're looking good.

Have you decided if the masks are going to be leather or flesh?

Chuck Norris was the fourth wise man and gave Jesus his favorite gift, a beard. The other wise men were so hacked off, they got Chuck Norris removed from the bible. Mysteriously, they all later died of Roundhouse kick related injuries.
Original thoughts were for leather but skinned slaves might be an idea. Could mix them I suppose.
you'd need some sewed up mark to break the mask a bit..
8th Edition Record (old book) :
Ogres - 23W, 3D, 10L
8th Edition Record (new book) :
Ogres - 25W, 4D, 3L

55/101 Ogre Achievement.
Been a little while. Here are the latest. I hope they dont become too samey.
Anyone with any images for inspiration feel free to link or post them :)

Dont really like the one with the streamers at the back so probably changing that soon.

Those look nice. Some details would be great though, like stich marks, or rivets, or small nicks or holes.

If by RAW, you mean "Reg06's Audacious Whims", then you'd be right.

love the pants! haha
ogres are the boulder rolling down at you.  you can side step it, run away from it or blow it up before it gets to you... but you can never ignore it.
You can see my pants? What?

I wasn't really wanting stitch marks initially as I wanted them to be a single shaped piece of leather/skin.
But they really do need some kind of detail and there are two "votes" for that already so I think that is the next step.

I really like the ideas of nicks and holes from Reg06 as that still fits in with the single piece idea (though that may get revisited). Some of them look a little like Mexican wrestler masks and I really don't want them looking humourous.
No, the red and blue colour scheme on the pants I meant lol

I was hoping thats what you meant :)

I intended each unit to have a vaguely Empire colour scheme each from a different area. So a white and green one, maybe mainly black etc etc. This was to represent their wanderings and the "tribe" being made up of a bunch of pretty vagrant ogres all on this crazy pilgrimage.
