Just making sure. Our casters are still allowed to throw up to six dice when casting like other casters correct?
MaanNaam27 Jun 2011
Correct. The errata of 8th ed ogres removed the restriction butchers and SM had about the number of power dice, they are now just normal lvl 2 and lvl 4 wizards (very fat normal wizards, but normal none the less)
There is only news. There is no good or bad.

Perfect. Just making sure.

If you want to live dangerously... My response to getting box cars (usually on 2 dice) is "oh no!"
Genestealer27 Jun 2011
Very true!

Our miscast table is unfortunately pretty nasty... I never really throw more than 3, just because of the fear of it.

I get very nervous when I roll 12 for the Winds of Magic and I'm in combat. It means I only have 4 spells, and realistically need to 3-dice them. This situation makes me want to add a second caster more than any other.

The answer to everything is sabretusks. There is no problem that can't be solved at least in part with kitties.

OK. So page 60 of the army book states that a butcher can only use two die to cast a spell and a slaughtermaster can only use three. I don't see anywhere in the FAQ that removes this portion of the paragraph. It is not in the fifth and removed paragraph, so wouldn't we still have to abide by it?
I'm wondering if the FAQ: "Butchers and Slaughtermasters channel and cast spells in the normal manner. A Butcher counts as a Level 2 Wizard, and a Slaughtermaster as a Level 4 Wizard." is really only telling us that we get the +2 and +4 to casting/dispell results.

Gut Magic, Casting Gut Magic Change the third paragraph to Butchers and Slaughtermasters channel and cast spells in the normal manner. A Butcher counts as a Level 2 Wizard, and a Slaughtermaster as a Level 4 Wizard.
Don't have my army book with me, but IIRC the third paragraph stated that we can only use max 3 dice to cast. And now it's changed.

Right, the third paragraph is the one limiting you to not more than X dice, and that's been replaced with the text you quoted above. So it is removed.
Genestealer28 Jun 2011
OK. So the rest of the paragraph was removed. Got it. The question came about if the FAQ was just changing the first sentence, but now looking at it and how they word other sections I see it.
Thanks all.
Again, why would you ever roll more than 1 or 2 dice anyway, so I guess it was kind of a moot point, but just wanted to be sure.
Gutlord Inquisitor28 Jun 2011
Eh, when the game gets to make or break time an your opponent knows damn well to shut down regen it's worth throwing more dice. You can even go for irresistible force against dwarfs or empire if you have an earthing rod in order to get a key spell through their defenses.
Genestealer28 Jun 2011
Good point. I just haven't gotten that far yet. The largest game I have played is 1500 points and that's been with only one butcher. We have another two weeks before we bump to 2000 and I get to try SM and butcher, or two butchers.
