Slaughtermaster With wizerthat

original thread ↗

if I would give my Slaughtermaster a wizerthat wil wat will happen?

will he stay a lvl 4 wizert with spells from a random lore and guts or only the random lore?

seeing the army book says he always knows all spells from the gutsmagic, I would say he becomes a wizert with 10 spells for 2 lores, the random lore and the guts lore.
Okay, after reading the book in reference to your question I am even more confused then ever.
The Wizarding Hat says:
The bearer is treated as being a level 2 Wizard who can use a randomly chosen spell lore. However, he also has the stupidity rule.

From this I think the effects on a Slaughtermaster would be as follows:
  • He becomes a level 2 Wizard due to that hat's effect overriding his initial level 4  :?
  • He becomes stupid
  • He knows every spell in the Gut Magic Lore due to the rule in the Ogre Book
  • You randomly determine your secondary discipline
  • You roll 2 dice to determine your spells from that discipline

I'm not sure if this is the correct interpretation though. Would being "treated" as a level 2 Wizard downgrade your Wizard level if it were higher? I cannot find any reference in the book to what happens if a Wizard has two wizard levels. Or is he only counted as level 2 in reference to the random lore?

Just... Don't give the SM the hat

still assom to have 8 spells :P
A 300pt level 2 caster with no options to take any magic defensive items and chews up a massive chunk of your Lord allowance...
For 8 spells? Only two of which he does not already have, and are determined completely randomly?
Sure. Awesome. But incedibly impractical and random.

yes for a fun game its fun to use. and do to the randomnis of it all you can have a lot of fun in a game, if you don't take it to serious :P. and its better than losing the 6 spells it already knew and becoming a lvl 2 wiz for an 100 points extra witch would suck hard. :P

and its not that I realy want to bring one but we al agreed on a match ware everyone uses a wizhat, just for the fun of it. and then your only options are a Tyrant or a Slauth so I pick the Slauth.
If you have to use it, put it on the Tyrant. The Lvl 4 of the SM is too important to waste

The answer to everything is sabretusks.  There is no problem that can't be solved at least in part with kitties.

dont underestimate the wizard hat on the tyrant.

it can be highly compettetive at times. (as long as you dont get lore of fire)

I would rather make my SM combat-like than my tyrant mage-like.

Slaughtermasters are possibly the best wizards for their points in WHFB. Why would you try to make a demi-wizard out of a tyrant?

If you want a wizard that both fights and casts, try:

Slaughtermaster w/ fencers blades, 4+ ward and potion of strength.

i want the spells from the normal lores.

and i will take them both
the tyrant wizard and the slaughtermaster AND another butcher with a battle standard bearer

and then you have used up your only Tyrant.

Tyrant with nothing but basic equipment.

I seriously don't know why the hat is so expensive. it isn't worth more then 30 points tops especially since you don't pick the lore or the spells and become stupid to boot. for 100 points I would want to pick the spells and the lore.

Agreed.  Everything about it is random and you get to be stupid to boot.  Not worth 100 points.
Not on a Tyrant, that's for sure. Best place for it is on a Gobllin Warboss, Skaven Warlord or some other cheap Lord choice in an army that doesn't have access to the Rulebook Lores

Maybe on our Gnoblar Chieftain when the new book comes out?
Oh, it's easily worth 50. Considering it's for any army, there are certainly those that benefit a lot from making a fighty character a wizard. But... 100 points AND only level 2 AND random lore AND Stupidity has meant that it is of limited use for most armies. Sadly too much. If it were level 4, then 100 might be warranted. I'd happily pay 50, maybe 60 or 70 because that'd still leave points for other goodies. Honestly I'd consider it for 90 since you could still at least get mawseeker.

That said, it is very tempting to gain access to a rulebook lore. Often I find myself with excess power dice that could do with a spell or two from the rulebook to play with. But... 100 points?
