'Ard Boyz NYC Semis

original thread ↗

So I posted my 3000 OK list that I took to the 'ard boyz semis in the armies of the kingdoms section and i'll share how it went here.  My full list is in there but a basic rundown is

Tyrant and BSB bruiser in a unit of 10 ironguts
Slaughtermaster in a unit of 11 bulls
Butcher in a unit of 11 bulls
2 units of 60 gnoblars
10 trappers
3 scraplaunchers

Round 1: High Elves
Scenario outline: after every successful spell roll a d6 and on a 1 the wizard suffers a miscast.  victory points are different, core is worth 2 special 4 and rare 8.  general 5 and characters 2.

I was up against teclis using life in a unit of 40 phoenix guard with the banner of sorcery, i think there might have been a noble with a great weapon too.  25 or 30 spearmen, a horde of 50 spearmen with the bsb and the flaming attacks banner and another noble with a great weapon.  A shadow wizard in with 10 archers.  and 20 sword masters.

Turn 1:
I advanced my Ironguts and Slaughtermaster bulls up the middle and hung the gnoblars back to screen the scraplaunchers.  the butcher bulls went around the left flank.  the trappers scouted behind the small spearmen unit and ran up to throw sharp stuff at them.  I put toothcracker on the ironguts and trollguts on the other bull units.  The slaughtermaster miscast and couldnt cast spells for the rest of the game.  the scraplaunchers took out around 8 phoenix guard and around the same number of spearmen.  the trappers took out one or two more from the small spearmen unit.  On his turn the swordmasters moved up my left flank, while the horde of spearmen and PG advanced up the middle.  the small Spears turned to face my trappers.  In the magic phase his little wizard cast the reduce S hex on my ironguts and miscast.  he killed 5 archers and lost the rest of his power dice before teclis could attempt to cast anything.

Turn 2:
The Butcher led bulls charged the 20 swordmasters on my left.  The Ironguts failed their charge and stumbled forward so I moved the other unit of bulls up slowly with them.  The scrap launchers took out around 12 more PG. the trappers threw sharp stuff at the small Spears and knocked off one more.  The Bulls impacted 3 or 4 swordmasters to death before losing a full 4 ogres which was the back rank (at some point before this they lost trollguts, they may have had toothcracker on though).  The bulls responded by killing 11 Swordmasters, and stomping another 3, which was enough to win by a few.  The Swordmasters broke and ran off the table.  The bulls reformed to face the archers and the side of the spearmen horde.  In the highelf turn the spearmen and phoenix guard held. thhe shadow wizard ran out of his small archer unit.  and the small spearmen charged the trappers who stood and shot. Teclis raised a few spearmen back to life with regrowth, and the shadow wizard tried pit of shades on the ironguts.  I lost two or three ironguts but he miscast again and lost the rest of power dice.  The trappers got chopped up by the spearmen but dragged one more down before they fled.

Turn 3:
The Ironguts charged the spearmen and the butcher bulls went after the small archer unit.  the slaughtermaster bulls charged into the phoenix guard.  my butcher threw trollguts up on his bulls in the magic phase.  in the shooting phase the scraplaunchers had to shoot at the  small spearmen unit and took out another rank.  one of the scraplaunchers misfired and let him shoot at gnoblars which lost a whole bunch and ran away.  The heroes in the spearmen horde did a few wounds but with toothcracker on the spearmen couldnt do a wound.  my tyrant killed both heroes in the unit and the ironguts took out enough to make the horde not useful anymore.  they held though and reformed out of the horde to give themselves more ranks.  the bulls easily wiped aside the archers but reforming was better then overrunning so the faced the spearmen.  the slaughtermaster bulls lost a few of their wounds but took out more then a rank just from their attacks.  they had bad luck though when they failed to save any of the 4 stomps.  they broke, ran, and were caught.  In  the highelf turn the shadow wizard pit of shades'd one of my scraplaunchers to death.  moved the small spearmen towards the slaughtermaster bulls.  The spearmen horde manged to do a negligble number of wounds to the ironguts who took out a whole bunch in return.  they broke and fled and were caught too.

Turn 4:
it was just mopping up at this point my units moved to kill the small spearmen even though it wasnt needed.  The scraplaunchers took the last wound of the shadow wizard.  The bulls with the slaughtermaster charged into the spearmen and broke them in one turn.  He had nothing left and all i lost was a scraplauncher and the trappers.

I'll post the 2nd round against daemons in a little bit.
Not sure how i forgot this but in turn 2 i think teclis tried to hit the ironguts with dwellers and got double six which let him ignore his miscast.  but a 1 came up on the scenario dice and he was forced to roll on the miscast table.  I think he lost a wound but more importantly he lost dice from the pool.   I was mostly lucky with Teclis.  Every turn a miscast came up for him and he lost dice before teclis could super magic destroy me.
Wow, surprising use of Teclis there, what was Teclis doing in a frontline combat unit? I would have expected him to be buffing his units up with Flesh to Stone. Very surprising that he relied on his level 2 so much. I guess he was attempting to do the Strength hex and then Dwellers, which is a nasty combo. I know there was one guy (who stole just ahead of me to get to 1st place) at our semis with Lizardmen and twin Slaan, and I think he was doing that - shadow debuffs and then dwellers/pit of shades. Nasty. He should be at the same Finals we're going to, just so you know.  ;)

Neat stuff, thanks for posting!
