overpowered 3k vs WoC and Vamps

original thread ↗

hey guys. so if anyone has seen my other post you understand the name. if not, long story short, people lost this weekend at my club to my ogres and called me overpowered. lol. this is my first report just being typed so i might forget a few things.

first off, the list. i am a firm believer of everything has to have a roll to fill.

tyrant- tenderizer, dragon helm, wardstone necklace, mawseeker, HA, luck gnob
his job is to issue challenges and if not challenge to allocate onto heroes. always kill heroes.

slaughtermaster- bloodcleaver, talisman of endurance, crown of command, luck gnob
he hangs out in the second rank of my iron guts to make sure they stay stubborn

bruiser- BSB, enchanted shield, talisman of preservation, HA, look out gnob, luck gnob, CLS
other than BSB duties, he makes sure that my slaughtermaster can stay in the second rank.

butcher- gruts sickle
just butcher stuff

12 iron guts- standard, musician, runemaw
the number changes in less points game but the build is the same. they kill armor and are my anvil unit (with a little hammer thrown in)

9 bulls- full command, IF
they stay 3 wide and only try to fight core units. if they do hit other things, they can stay steadfast hopefully.

24 gnobs
just for runemaw sponges. the number is odd to fill out points. and they just hang out behind my line. i dont even try to fight  with them.

8 trappers
to do trapper stuff, and for a 2nd scrappy.

2 scrappies
i have decided that using these like chariots that can shoot is much better then treating them like stone throwers that can charge. (if that makes sense to anyone else)

slave giant
just because i love them. in all my games he rarely does anything but once he ate a WoC bsb so he always shows up now.

4 maneaters- BoH, HA
took me a second to figure out what i wanted these guys to do. i had CLS on them but figured they were ONLY going to fight small/cheap things so i went with BoH instead. 5 attacks, stubborn, and some pop shots. all good things.

so thats the list i will be taking probably from now on with little changes if i need them.

GAME 1 VS VAMPIRES

im not going to mess around with terrain or anything like that just give you guys the highlights. hopefully not too many text walls.

deployment

VC from left to right.
black coach
25ish skeletons with hero manfred
25ish sketons
a LOT of horded grave guard with a vampire and regen wight BSB
25ish skeletons with general
30ish ghouls with a vampire
and a vargulf

me from left to right
the whole left half of mt field is empty
9 bulls with butcher, a little left from center
12 IG, with tyrant, BSB, and SM in the center
24 gnobs behind the IG
scrappy
scrappy
4 maneaters
giant
and trappers out by the vargulf

THE PLAN
knowing i was going to be out magic. i came up with my fool proof plan. go fight stuff. i wanted my bulls to take on the coach because i would be steadfast forever. and the over all goal was to get the IG into combat with the GG, let him wrap around me with combo charges, and then combo charges of my own. i saw that he has skeletons in the flanks of the GG so i knew that when he combo charged to put as many attacks into skellies as i can for the free combat res.

TURN 1

VC got first turn. he moved the black coach up to flank the bulls. turns the vargulf to face the trappers. and everything else stays still. in magic manfred cast an irresistible winds of undeath and only makes 1 ghost base right in the middle of the field. however he rolled and 8 on the miscast and almost all of his vampires took wounds.

my turn the iron guts charged the ghost. the bulls moved up to the middle and faced the coach. everything else moved up slanting to face the middle so i can get combo charges if i need them later. the trappers move closer to the vargulf. magic i got a few buffs off. in shooting both scrappies scattered off their target of the ghouls. i chose the ghouls as my main threat because poison is bad. the trappers did 1 would in the vargulf tho. IG killed the ghost and reformed to face forward again.

turn 2

the coach charged the bulls. vargulf charged the trappers who passed the terror and did another wound with stand and shoot. AWESOME! ghouls moved up a little. everything else still held. in magic he got  another IF summon horde with manfred. only rolled and 8. he gave the vampires their wounds back and the miscast was small template that killed 8 skellies and missed manfred. combat the coach rolled awesome and killed 3 ogres but i was steadfast. i couldnt hurt it at this point because it was full charged up so ethereal and no magic weapons in the unit. the vargulf killed all but 2 trappers who ran aff the table but so did the vargulf in the over run.

the IG charged the GG and the maneaters charged the ghouls. magic i got a tooth cracker off on the bulls and it think that was about it. in shooting the srappies killed a few skeletons but nothing spectacular. in combat the coach  did 0 wounds but i won by 2 with a standard and rank. start to crumble. the iron gut combat. i didnt issue a challenge because i needed his vampires dead. and this one was a lord too. vampire went first and killed and IG or 2. then my BSB put all he attacks into the bsb. i did 2 wounds. not enough to kill it. then my slaughermaster put all his support attacks into the bsb and killed it. the GG TORE up some IG and killed like 4 of them. then all my IG and tyrant got to attack back. i put all the tyrants attacks into the vamp lord and killed it. D3 wounds is the best ever. the IG killed a ton of GG. like 20 or so. i won combat by 13 i think and only left 3 GG. the maneaters did like 15 wounds the the ghouls and took 5 themselves. then stomped the vampire for 1 wound and popped the unit to combat res.
turn 3

the vampire general unit charged the IG in the flank (hook, line, and sinker) then in the magic phase he realized what he did and called the game. lol he said he wanted to get another game in before he had to go.

i said i wanted to fight the generals to see who would win. needless to say the tyrant eat him whole.

massacre to the ogres!!!!!

GAME 2 WoC

i used the same list and the same plan as the game before.

DEPLOYMENT

from left to right WoC

far left was 5 knights with 2 juggernaut heroes (no clue on gear) and general lord on horse
7 trolls with a troll king hero
a HUGE block of warriors. i think where 50+ in it. with halberds and khorne mark. a lord on foot here too
8 chaos trolls

i set up a little different this time. from left to right
4 maneaters
butcher behind them on his own (not a good use of gruts sickle but oh well)
12 IG with tyrant, SM, ad BSB
gnoblars behind IG
giant
9 bulls
scrappy
scrappy
trappers on the right flank by chaos ogres

TURN 1

WoC got first turn. he ran the knights 14 inches and angles them into the maneaters flank. the trolls and warriors inched up. and chaos ogres run up 12 inches. he has no magic or shooting.

i was nervous about what to with the knights. i knew my man eaters couldnt take them and then it hit me...why fight them at all? i ran my 12 inches past his knights and my opponents face was priceless. it was like he was blown away by the fact that i didnt charge them. and i could see his plan of sweep my flank with his knights shatter in front of my eyes. freaking hilarious. i moved the trappers in closer to the warriors. the bulls i moved closer to the chaos ogres. the scrappies moved to flank the ogres if i lived. the giant and IG moved up 8 inches to take the middle of the field. magic i got off some buffs. no reason too tho. the scrappies and trappers killed a few warriors off.

TURN 2

the chaos trolls charged the bulls. the knights marched into the woods and his general failed his dangerous test and ward and took a wound. the trolls turned to face my maneaters. the warriors didnt move, getting ready to take my IG head on. in combat the bulls did 12 wounds and he saved 3, killing 3 whole chaos ogres. woot! the chaos ogres had great weapons and did 16 wounds. i parried 3 and lost 3 ogres as well. but i kept my rank so i was steadfast and held.

the man eaters charged the trolls. and the both scrappies charged the flank of the chaos ogres. magic i got a tooth cracker off on the bulls with the SM and a bull gorger and trollguts off on the maneaters with the butcher. trappers killed a few more warriors (these guys could shoot great these games) in combat the maneaters put all their attacks onto the troll king and did 2 wounds. he killed 3 but i was stubborn. the bulls and scrappies won but the chaos ogres held.

turn 3
the knights and warriors got into position to combo charge the IG. (i guess he thought i was a little too far way still to assure the charge) magic he took my tooth cracker off the bulls. i luckily i won combat some how again and he broke. the scrappies ran him down and the bulls turned to face the center. the maneather took like 5 wounds but managed to save all but 1. i did 1 more wound on the troll king, lost combat but held from stubborn.

i surprised my opponent by not running into his warriors and instead charging the flank of his trolls. the giant and gulls moved to get ready to help of the IG in the next round. scrappies killed a few more warriors from shooting. in combat i needed to kill the trolls BAD. if i didnt i was in trouble. my butcher rolled a IF trollguts and rolled a 1 for his miscast, dies, and wounds the SM. i challenged with my tyrant but he said i couldnt accept with the troll king because i wasnt in base contact with the IG unit only the man eater. i said its any fighting model not just in contact with the unit the challenger is in. we had a small argument and i decided to let him have his way (i still dont know who was right. anyone know?). i destroyed the trolls and he tried to kill my last man eater off. and he fluffed all his attacks. he needed insane courage didnt get it and ran. the man eater caught him and the IG turned around.

turn 4

he charged the IG on the flank with the knights and in the front with the warriors. i got TORN UP. i lost a lot of IG. i issued a challenge with the tyrant and he accepted with a lord. he did 2 wounds )even with the flaming ward save a 2+ i rolled snake eyes.) but the tyrant killed his so if doesnt matter. the IG put all their attacks on the general and did another wound (out of 6 attacks 1 got through) i lost horribly but the SM makes me stubborn.

i charged the rear with the bulls and giant. i moved the maneater around to hide and save his points. and i failed charge with both scrappies. i lost like 4 more ogres but luckily he allocated all his attacks into the SM on the flank and i made all my saves. i issued another challenge with my tyrant and he took a wound from the hero (another argument we had was he wouldnt let me take my troll guts regen because the IG had already taken a wound due to flaming i had a 5+ ward that saved a few attacks but i thought i would still get regen because the IG took the attacks not the tyrant. the guys attacking HIM didnt have flaming. he was in a different unit. but again i let the baby have his bottle i was winning anyway. does anyone know who was right here?) with all my attacks from the giant and bulls and combat res from them i won combat by 1 and he actually broke. he didnt have a bsb so no reroll. the bulls and giant chased the warriors and caught them and knights with the general got away.

TURN 5

he rallied his knights and that is all he has left...exciting.

my turn i charged the knights with the remaining IG unit. i challenge with my tyrant again. he accepts with he other hero, not the general. i killed his with my tyrant and i took no wounds back. my IG allocated all attacks on the general (only 2 IG left.) and i did 1 wound. killed his general with IG and a failed dangerous terrain test. big scary chaos lord my @$$ lol. he lost combat by a lot he ran and got away again.

turn 6

he failed to rally but stayed on the table.

my turn i charged him and he had to flee. he fled off the table and i win. all i lost was a butcher. he had nothing left on the table.

CONCLUSION

so this is what caused all the commotion about how ogres are overpowered and top tier. lol hope you guys liked it and enjoy being "top tier".
