Omaiga mercenaries - a ogre gnoblogg

original thread ↗

Its about time to give my guys some fluff, so that i might give them some more attention. I played mostly in 6th edition, and then less in 7th edition, and have not played yet in 8th edition, so i assume that my list will change quite a bit during the first few months while playing around. I will want to try to play a coulpe games a month (i know that is by most standards really few games, but hey), and give updates and thoughts, as well as battle reports.

I had my army painted by a friend of mine, but i was thinking about giving each model a more individual touch when starting this project, so pictures will come at a later stage.

I'll start with 1000 points games, cause they are fast and easy to play, and gives it a more personal touch. It will also lower the bar to make conversions, and more painting on the models that i have, since there are fewer models in the 1000 point army. Any help to the army composition would be great.

First try to this 1000 points games is following:

The names of the ogres are based on their role or social stature within the tribe. Personally, i dont think that ogres would give eachother names per se, but rather give eachother names based on acomplishments and roles. Exactly like bignames, just not nessesarily "big" names :p This would also delve into the idea that ogres might not think of themselves as individuals in a regular sence, but that is another topic all together. (Wich i probably will comment on in a later post)

The Omaiga Mercenaries.

A wandering tribe, not bound by place or system. Doing the bidding of whoever pays the best, good or evil is not of their concern. Raiding a Dwarven hold is very profitable, but being paid to help assist killing greenskins is both fun and profitable.

Brüthe, the enforcer.
He is second in command within the tribe, and is the one given the task of supplying the tribe with new supplies, and protecting the tribes terretory from attackers. When in larger battles, he is given the honor of carrying the battle standard. He is called Brüthe, cause of the way he got to where he is today. When the previous battle standard berer, Keller, was challenged by Brüthe, then called thinling maimer, he sendt his most loyal Ironguts after him, but one by one they where slaughtered by Brüthe, and the challenge had to be meet. The battle was arranged for all the tribe to see, and it was a glorius one indeed. To be fair, Keller was the stronger of the two, but Brüthe had more stammina. They call Brüthe Brüthe, cause after the fight was over, he broke every bone in Kellers body, before Keller died. He inspires his fellow ogres to stand and fight, cause they fear what happens to them if they turn and run.

Gnoblash
The lucky 8. These are Brüthe's own slave gnoblars. When not in battle, they bring food, scratch hard to reach places, and steal stuff Brüthe wants. They are not 8 spesific gnoblars, as they die pretty easily in battle, and during practice. They do, however, have a better life than regular gnoblars, the short time they do live.
8 trappers

Firecracker
Firecracker is a strange ogre. Some say he have eaten to many gnoblars for his own good, and his blood has becomed toxic. Some say he spent to much time chewing on gunpowder tobacco. Some even say he is a hairless hunter, and should be tossed out of the tribe for being weak. The true story nobody knows, but when he was in training to become an irongut, instead of lifting the rhinox and eating it, he grew strangly fond of it, expressing feelings regular ogres did not understand. Upon being mocked and beaten by his brothers, he stole a cannon from some leadbelchers, and shoot them to death. Most ogres just leave him alone these days.

Bullies
Stonecrusher, Headsplitter, Bonebreaker, Swordeater and Smasher fills the quintet of the regular bulls. They make alot of noise, and look very threatening. They have worked together since they where little - in relative ogre terms - by ganging up on other bulls and ironguts. They never made the trials alone to become ironguts, and they always worked best in their own group. Not easy to boss around, as they got their own idea as to what is the best choice of action. Mostly it comes down to crush, split, break, smash and eat.
5 bulls

Gutties
Toothy, Rhinox Thrower, Minotaur Wrestler and Troll Vomit Eater are the prestigious ironguts. Toothy lost all his teeth in a eating competition with Troll Vomit Eater, turns out his troll was a stone troll, while Troll Vomit Eater ate a river troll. Rhinox Thrower and Minotaur Wrestler both got top scores in their sporting activities, namely Throwing of Rhinox, and Wrestling a Minotaur.
4 ironguts

Rhocky
Rhocky is the only survivor of a pack of ironguts, sendt out to scout a possible Giant cave. The Giantbreaker of their tribe wanted another pet giant to fight his current one, it would be a fine spectacle having two giants fight eachother. Sadly, the ironguts got lost in the icy mountains, and while running around trying to find a way down, they faced a bull rhinox. The bull rhinox killed the two other ironguts, but eventually Rhocky was able to mount it. The bull rhinox was able to run for a day before it was broken by Rhocky and by that time Rhocky had no idea where he was. He joined the first ogre tribe he saw, and is currently frontrunner in the mercenary tribe Omaiga

There's a certain thrill in everything coming down to a D6 roll.

If I had a 10 foot long greatsword, I'd be swinging that thing left and right.
