I have information that GW will be pushing Ogres at Games Day. I cannot post the exact nature of how they will be pushing them as i do not know how many people have been told this and therefore whether i will compromise anyone. I can say i do not mean from a sales point of view but more from a "have ogres everywhere" point of view. This would suggest to me that GW are preparing to release Ogres soon after Games Day.
new kits 1 character based (possibly 2 kinda its complicated) , rhinox rider / scraplauncher
As I plan on making Games Day, Chicago, this will be very exciting indeed!

That stuff about character and Rhinox/Scraplauncher kits does seem to be speculation though.

We will see, the most important thing is a new release, it getting more and more difficult to find Ogres' stuff end we desperately need a new Army Book...

All I hope is that they get a few funky and imaginative new units and make the weaker units in the current book better but within their fluff, oh yea and also some nice new plastic Yhettis,Scraplauncher and Rhinox Riders. I also state here that I will eat some Trollguts if they can mount Tyrants/Bruisers on Bull Rhinox, that would be too awesome for words!

With rumours floating around about Necrons coming out soon, I would have thought that the UK Games Day release would be a 40K one. But I suppose it's what sells better - Ogres or Necrons.
Personally I don't mind when as long as it's simular quality to the Orcs and Tomb King books

so from august to october???
thats not that bad, gives me 2 more months to acquire a few more battalions(im shooting for 100+ bulls, 50ist IG's and a couple dozen LB's). hopefully it doesnt get pushed back/really is any later.
im still waiting for that incoming article(which may be around june or july)...

My biggest hope is for plastic characters, and all thing big plastic.
It frustrates me so much when my Hive Tyrant falls to bits just because something small hit him in the head, meanwhile my plastic Trygon still stands tall (very tall) without a bit of trouble at the joints or the body.
There is only news. There is no good or bad.

ummm....WHAT??? you might be in the wrong place....
Now, lets hope they dont change our core unit model...
i'd hope not, there's nothing wrong with them and we have alot of metal models and still need rhinox riders, maybe another WM of sorts, and another new unit. there is plenty for them to remake/make. they will keep making $10 off each Irongut model like they've been if they lower the point cost and/or attract new people to the army.
Enkiel06 May 2011
And, about the Rhinox Riders...
what you guys expect? right now ;
for 145 pts ; 1 bull with 3 attacks WS3 S4 1 Rhinox with 4 attacks WS4 S6 the whole thing is T5 5 wounds.
Rhinox would most likely drop in attacks, to go with the Scraplauncher. (or scraplauncher get an upgrade in stats?) 145 pts seems a bit step to me. maybe drop to 125 with lower stats?
I guess they'll go on par with the new monsters (Arachnarok and TK's).
And the base? Still chariot, or will our Rhinox Scraplauncher look tiny (like the old and new Skaven Bells)

im thinking more on par with the TK necropolis knights, a 2+ armor save though instead of the 3+ the TK knights have(a scrappie has a 4+,then add the armored ogre and your talking very heavy calvary) with about the same stats they have now for around 100pt(give or take). they have to be cheap enough to build a unit with at least one rank while being able to include other stuff in the army.
Eg Giant-tripper06 May 2011
I wouldn't be surprised if Rhinox became exclusive to Ironguts/Maneaters and characters, with the Scraplauncher's stats going up to those of the RR (bear in mind, the one pulling the Scraplauncher is only a young one).

oh slave giants.. will be a mount option in the version i saw as a gnoblar char can use one
gut magic is more streamlined you buy the spells you want
hunters get entire packs , and a bear thing a chariot my imagine the carnage.....

Sounds suspiciously similar to the stuff Steppingonyou was saying last time round (especially the Giant-riding Gnoblar, considering there's no real way they could implement it as a model), but at least it's something to go off. The GM stuff also contradicts with what Avian said and I know who I'd trust more.

Summary so far
Updated 6/5/11
My information above that GW will be pushing Ogres at GamesDay Harry's absolute, resounding unambiguous no.
Ghost 21 has suggested that there will be one or two character based kits. Due to the size of ogres plastic characters seem more likely than for other races. It is not clear whether he means normal or special characters. He also suggested there will be a rhinox based kit and a plastic scraplauncher kit. Based on the last few releases it would appear likely that Ogres will get a big gribbly and/or a sort of casting/mounted platform creature (e.g. sphinx, stegadon, arachnarok, bell), or both in one. Also from Ghost 21: Yhetees new models, possibly not first wave, will be more useful gamewise. Slave giants will be a mount option, possibly for gnoblar characters. Some sort of choice system for gut magic, possibly buying spells. Hunters get larger packs and some sort of bear thing Hunter possibly in resin

Captain Blackadder, desperate not to get sent over the top, does everything in his power to misinterpret or avoid messages from HQ which order him to do so. Upon receiving a carrier pigeon, he shoots it and then reads the message - not only does it tell him to attack, it declares that the shooting of pigeons is a court martial offence. He eats the evidence and instructs his lackeys Baldrick and George to cover for him. When HQ visits to ask why he hasn't attacked, both answer in monotone voice: 'We didn't receive any messages and Captain Blackadder definitely did not shoot this delicious, plump-breasted pigeon sir'. The pigeon transpires to be Speckled Jim, the general's childhood pet, and hilarity ensues.

I think we will retain loremaster(it is fluffy for us as our casters arn't really casting the spell, but asking the Maw to intervene) and have the casting values increase.
our Buffs will certaintly become Augment. possably having Toothcracker and Bullgorger give +2 or 3 to the stat instead of 1 to compensate.
Lore Attribute could work like the TK attribute by restoring d3 wounds worth of models.
if we arn't Lore Masters then we might be able to know more spells then normal.
SMs will probably stay Loremasters. butchers might know 4 spells, but remain level 2s

The Lore Attribute might well be some kind of side effect on the butcher that scales with the spell (e.g. hit with the strength of the casting value of the spell, autowound if over 10). No reason a Lore Attribute need be beneficial...
I don't see any particular fluff reason why butchers should get Loremaster. Indeed, even more than regular spells, gut magic spells are recipes, so it's perfectly reasonabe that butchers don't all know all recipes.
Not that I'm complaining about knowing all spells, it just looks to me that there isn't any real reason gut magic couldn't operate exactly like everyone else's magic. I think we should be prepared for the eventuality that gut magic becomes a conventional Lore and butchers normal wizards.

It'd definitely be an efficient way of implementing the side effects, but I think I would be a bit miffed if we didn't get some sort of bonus in the lore attribute. Almost everyone else gets access to one with some sort of benefit and I don't want to be left behind.

Depends heavily on what the GM spells actually are. If they're all exceptional or the signature spell is good, I'd be okay, but no way Jose am I paying out 130-odd points for a wizard who doesn't then get the spell I need and eats into my character allowance. We're rather dependent on some of our spells to boost our sometimes-less-than-stellar combat ability and I'm loathe to put faith into a few D6 at the beginning of the game (again, depending on what the spells are and other changes).

anothing thing to consider ; TK magic phase was just Overpowered with 8th ed rules... possibility of loads of PD (with little DD), no miscast, no loss concentration. All the plus, no minus.
gutmagic is already much more 8th ed friendly.

I'm not opposed to a normal lore on principle, but I think just a basic conversion to a middlingly-effective lore would result in less Butchers going around. I hope we get magic capabilities similar to the TKs. The bony ones might have more dependence on magic and should be a more magical army by their nature, but our wizards and the characters competing with them are considerably more expensive.
All the plus, no minus.
I disagree, the bonuses were offset by the fact that the old magic was rather mediocre and the troops were more dependent on it than ever (8 point skellies with the fear nerf and more enemies striking them than ever before... not the best).

most other armies though have access to multiple lores, while we only have one(that we know for now at least). not to mention that we need buffs on our ogres to stay alive in combat and help us win games. hopefully GW wont take loremaster from us without buffing ogres in some other way.

Don't forget that you need to realise that comparing the power level of our new book must be made against TK and O&G, not Lizzies or Skavens.

If they make our book as balanced as the new Tomb Kings are i will be very happy. Ogre magic being made into a normal law with a signature spell and law attribute can only be a win for us, we have some of the most expensive wizards in the game and they hurt them selves every time they cast a spell no other army has to suffer that kind of disadvantage and nearly every law is more powerful than ours.
Maybe have something like the Tomb Kings law attribute healing wounded ogres that are subject to a spell (not bringing any models back from the dead that just would not fit our fluff).
I think we will be very happy with what ever we get looking at the 2 most recent books there are no filler units that nobody will ever take (yes i am looking at you Mr Hunter), Good internal balance and nothing to stupidly overpowered/undercosted .
Far2Casual17 May 2011
Well, healing one wound to an Ogre 6/12" inch away from the caster would be an awesome lore attribute. Make it so that it doesn't raise back dead ogres, only heal those who are wounded.
Could be imbalanced on the Ogre Characters, I dunno.

I was thinking about this last night and have no reason to believe that it might ever come true but....
Anyone think there is a possibility of our lore attribute actually being the buffs themselves? Something like "On successful cast, the caster can grant +1 Str, +1 Toughness, or 6+ Regen to a nearby ogre unit"
just wishful thinking probably, but could be really interesting.
minoa17 May 2011
Wish I could skip the butchers all-together and crush some skulls with my bruiser's bare hands!
Slaaneshy sinner17 May 2011
To be honest they can remove magic from our army completly for all i care just as long as they make Leadbelchers decent. I only started ogres based on those models and i have 2 full units of them that never get used.

Well, obviously if we have a negative lore attribute and everyone else gets a positive one, I'd expect compensation in the form of some major bonus in the spells themselves, stupidly low casting values would fit with the gutmagic format. I rather doubt it and I'd expect an attribute similar to that in the other armies, but it's a thought.
We could also potentially, like the Tomb Kings, get access to rulebook Lores. Life is a possibility, Beasts sort of fits but the Lore attribute is spectacularly useless for Ogres, after that not sure.

Agreed. Then again, if ogres are boosted up so that they can handle things on their own without buffs or characters by the basic army list then maybe it wouldn't matter so much?
