2500 Bay Area Open

original thread ↗

Hey guys, after a brief, yet torrid affair with Lizardmen, I'm bringing back the guts!  What better way to bring them back than by taking them straight to a tournament.  I've been quite successful with my 2000 list, but the Bay Area Open is a whopping 2500 to work with.  I started off with my normal list and added in a few magic items, plus another butcher and more bulls, take a look:

Ogre Tyrant: Tenderizer, Armor of Destiny, Luck Gnoblar: 305
Slaughtermaster: Talisman of Preservation, Grut's Sickle, Luck Gnoblar: 285

Bruiser: BSB, Lookout Gnoblar, CLS, heavy armor, Mawseeker, Enchanted Shield, Crown of Command: 222
Butcher: Dispel Scroll, Ironcurse Icon: 165

7 Bulls: Light Armor, Iron Fists, Standard, Musician, Lookout: 336 (Butcher)
7 Bulls: Light Armor, Iron Fists, Standard, Musician, Lookout: 336 (Slaughtermaster)
6 Ironguts: Standard Bearer, Musician, Runemaw: 338
30 Gnoblars: 60
8 Trappers: 48

3 Leadbelchers: 165
1 Scraplauncher: 165

1 Gorger: 75

Total: 2500

I don't typically run the ogre deathstar, for whatever reason I do much better with multiple medium sized units, go figure.  I may switch the Dispel Scroll and Grut's Sickle around, not too sure about it, I've never actually used Grut's Sickle.

Looking forward to the feedback!

Grits isgreat saved my butt many times.
dont do the right thing, do the thing right!

you can lead a horse to water, but you cant make it enjoy the view

A reminder to all, Luke found a way to beat the death star! so will everyone else!
I've never actually used it before, but I definitely see why it's useful.

I played a game saturday and really felt that the second butcher didn't really offer much to the game, the 6" range is so limiting.  So here's a quick modification, short the butcher and added in a bruiser set up for unit defense.

Any suggestions to change the second list?  I'm going to test it this weekend against TK or HE most likely.

In my opinion a level 2 butcher is critical.  Here is why.  An opponent of decent intelligence will realize that you really only have 3 spells that are really dangerous: +1 S, +1 T, and Regen.  And +1 S can be ignored in some circumstances.

So by taking just one caster, you are creating a magic phase where your opponent only needs to stop 2-3 spells of yours, an easy feat for most armies.  And even if one slips through that is easy to get rid of in his phase.

With two casters, now it is 5-6 he needs to stop and 2-3 in his own phase, a huge difference.

Hmmm... Good point.

I 2nd the 2nd Butcher.  With him, you really dont need gruts sickle either b/c the magic phase doesnt just end on a failed casting attempt b/c you have #2 that can step right in.  You might could take a halfling cookbook or my personal favorite - the bloodcleaver instead.  Every once in a while, I will run my 2nd butcher in a 2 Leadbelcher unit and use their super small footprint and good mobility to get my butcher to the right spots for his 6" range.

Also, dude, you already have 2 gnoblar units - take another scraplauncher!  I dont care what you get rid of to get it, just get it.   The biggest problem that your MMU army is going to have is its inability to finish off huge stubborn infantry blocks - which is why you need 2 scraplaunchers dropping 2 pie plates per turn.  Large template with killing blow is no joke.
