MY Ogre Challenge 3000points

original thread ↗

Hi all, been a follower of “the stronghold” for a long time now but! Not in finally a fellow Ogre.  :>D

Let’s start of by explaining what my Challenge is? So I am a long time Fantasy player I love playing at competitive levels (but just enjoy the game more than any thing). I have been in many tournaments with both my Lizards and Rats with varying success.  :glol:

I have to be honest now I have always had my eye on Ogres just seem such a fun army. So I have decided to start my very own Tribe, I managed to get hold of a huge force (traded my marines for a tone of ogres).

So I have put together a list that hopefully should be fun to use, I will stop rambling on and on now.  :groll:

The List:

Lords

Tyrant
  • Maw Seeker
    Swords of Anti Heroes
    Maw Gut
    Talisman of Endurance
    Heavy Armour
    Iron Fist

(3+AS 5+WS, in contact with there General unit, most likely 2 heroes, so 7A at 7S, and healing in challenges)

Slaughtermaster
  • Blood Cleaver
    Talisman of Preservation

(Healing with a 4+WS don’t have to say much more)

Heroes

Butcher
  • Scroll
    Halfling Cookbook

(Help with dispelling and book to save him. Will probably cast with Him first)

Bruiser
  • Siege Breaker
    Maw Seeker
    Heavy Armour

(Kill them annoying monsters mainly, and hopefully the Stank with its I-)

Bruiser (BSB)
  • Cathayan Longsword
    Heavy Armour
    Crown of Command
    Maw Seeker
    Enchanted Shield

(Well is a BSB welcome to 8th ED, Best I can come up with for protection really)

Core

Bulls x 9
  • 2X Hand Weapons
    Standard Bearer
    Bellower

Bulls x 10
  • 2X Hand Weapons
    Standard Bearer
    Bellower

(Butcher and the Bruiser will be either in the same unit of bulls or one in each depending on opponent setup and so on)

Ironguts x12
  • Standard Bearer
    Bellower
    Maw Banner

(Love this Banner, main unit BSB, Tyrant and most likely slaughtermaster in with them)

Gnoblar Fighters x 38

(5 wide steadfast near BSB and General is the main plan)

Gnoblar Trappers x 6

(Just seem a fun unit, not sure how well they are in game)

Special

Scraplauncher

Scraplauncher

(Worst model ever to build!! But in game it’s worth the time effort, never seen them used in 8th yet but they coursed my  Skaven some problems in 7TH, 1st turn killing blow on my Grayseer and BSB was a good game)

If my maths is right should hit 3000 on the dot

All Comments welcome I take it all on in   :>D

This list is going to be the one I am going to build up and paint, I am planning on setting up a “Gnoblog” of my tribe as it builds to glory

Thanks AdzAxeUK
i like the tyrant(exacty the same build as mine, minus the sword-gnobbos).

i would suggest either the runemaw banner(to protect yourself from magic) or the banner of eternal flame(to deal with regen)

and you cant have only 6 trappers...its 8+
2 arcane items on your butcher is illegal.
8th ED IS COMING, WILL YOU BE READY?
Thanks allot for the comments  :>)

@Gutlord - realy love the tyrant like this haven’t used just the best i could come up with.  How does this tyrant set up perform for you?

I put the runemaw banner on the Guts this banner seems two good really  :>D

Didn’t see that on the trappers thort it was 6+ thanks for pointing out

@magicafiend - didn’t notice that thanks. I will move the scroll to the SM

Any and all advice welcome

Thanks AdzAxeUK
pretty well, i buff his toughness and hit the nastiest unit i can find and issue a challenge hoping there are plenty of characters. if a champion takes the challenge then i kill him, regain a couple wounds(if i took any, a base toughness of 6 with a 3+/5++ is hard to crack), then hit one of the main 2+ characters with 7+ Strength 7+ Attacks and 2 Strength 2 Attacks. mostly results in the enemy generals death.

i dont know about the bruiser w/ seigebreaker though...thats alot of points, if you use the banner of eternal flame or ruby ring of fire to deal with regen and ironguts to kill it off is just as easy. i've found that a fully buffed maneater with GW is a great way to incapacitate the Stank(4 Strength 7+ Attacks can get some wounds in) and is alot cheaper then the bruiser.

just my 2 cents.
The reason for the Bruiser is yes to get rid of a Stank (big monsters); I can’t come up with any other way for ogres to deal with it because it is T10 (Lots of Empire players local to me you see). S7 good yes but still wounding on 6’s so I was hoping for the multi wounds from the siege barker to come into play. Hope in to have the S8 bruiser with an S buff so wounding on 5’s.

But it is only really there for that one reason really.

More than anything I am asking what’s your view on the list as a hole, I want it to be “an all comers” list.

Thanks for the advice  :>D

there's only one regular empire player in my area

i like the list, 3 good sized ogre units, a large gnobbo unit for rune maw fodder/steadfast, trapper unit for harassing(still need to add 2 more to it though to make it legal), and 2 scrappies to thin out enemy units.

even when not playing empire you can use the lone bruiser to flank charge to get those extra kills then pursue with him instead of your main unit.

should do well, when do you plan on testing it?
I am planning of having a game Friday (if i can bring my self to build that god dam 2nd scraplauncher  :gcry:) empire or skaven mabe agains just depending what he brings.

I will do a battle report friday night when i get chance but looking forword to it  :>D.

My plan is.... errm ye  :glol:

Thanks for the advise

Thanks AdzAxeUK
I'm also running a 5th character bruiser.
I gave him the BOH, mawseeker, dragon helm and the terrifing mask of EEEE.  He can go in the death star or jump out and make terror charges, and having a 2+ ward vs fire makes him handy against a lot of things.
i would swap the Cookbook for Grut's Sickle.

the Grut's sickle makes your magic more effective and you can use magic to heal the wounds caused by Trollguts.

if you are spending the points for 2 Handweapons on your Bulls I would just spend the one extra point for Ironfists. the increase in utility is massive. a 6+ armor save when you occasionally get it and a 6+ ward save OR the additional attack is a nice versitility.
Current win streak: 10

Things Fluffy,my Stonehorn, has flattened: Ancient Stegadon, Unit of 5 Chariots with Tomb king, Chaos Lord, Herald of Khorne on Jugger,
x58 Forever steadfast

I'd drop the additional hand weapons on the bulls.  You can only have 3 supporting attacks per monstrous infantry, and the additional hand weapons keep you from using the armor piercing on the ogre clubs.  I like additional hand weapons if you're only in one rank, but otherwise no.

Also, some of your builds have had a scroll and cookbook, etc.. watch out for 2 arcane items.
how did u get your tyrants AS up to a 3+ i only see a 4+ because of heavy armor and gut maw cause u cant use the sword of anti heroes and the ironfist can you?
Not everyone can be as big and bad as we are by the way the fish are for sale

this is gen. smakin-dabum
dis is our fishes fryer he does all da cookin of da fish, he sometimes gets carrieded away and puts it in his nasty soup of magics

most recent game win against skaventabled

you can use the IF because the Sword of Anti-Heroes is a one handed weapon, he cant get the parry save though as its not a mundane weapon. so he does receive the 3+ Armorsave.

i've checked it before, my tyrant has the same exact build at 3k.
