Storm of Magic...

original thread ↗

At last...

http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/article.jsp?aId=16200020a

I have been dying for big games, monsters, and magic like this.

And for the whiners, this is an optional expansion so no need to fret that you are forced to buy or use it.
My hood is my castle...
though this does not really sound as an apocalypse warhammer. it sounds more like lets play warwizards.

While reading the news, I imagined a Hunter holding a scar-covered Manticore on a leash, constantly call it "Bad kitty!".

... And it was glorious:lol:

New book record: 1/0/1

Here comes the quatuor:       Eenie, Meenie, Miney, and Zoidberg.
Hmmm. Could be interesting, depending on A: whether we get anything or not (I expect at least one or two goodies, even if it's just a few more spells or whatever) and B: if there's any kind of size requirement. The problem with apocalypse was the mundane restrictions of simply having a game of that size (time, space and models), though large Fantasy games are usually a bit more feasible.

Gutlord Inquisitor: FORUM FIGHT! Me, I'm betting on the stronghold. Sure, they're outnumbered with thick skulls, stubborn bull-headedness and an inflated sense of self-worth, but hey, they're Ogres.
Soz for the double-post, but a little bit of shedding-light has cropped up from a source - no idea how reliable he is though, never encountered him before.

It IS a plastic Warhammer Dragon. Can build diff varieties just like the Giant.
The other is the plastic Manticore / Chimera.
The other monstrous release will no doubt be the Beastmen Cygor/Ghorgon that Harry has confirmed has been waiting for release for ages.

And in the same post...

In terms of monsters for the other armies, Ogre Kingdoms will get their giant Rhidon along with their army book later this year.

No Ogre should be without his Rhidon beast...

Rhidon?  what's a Rhidon?

isn't that the drug you use for kids with ADHD?  why would we want mellow ogres, or a monstrous sized pill for that matter?

Harry on 'Seer has said that there'll be few army specific monsters and instead hinted towards a generic 'monster list' for armies to choose from, ala 5th ed or Dogs of War.

With Purple Sun and Dwellers etc. in standard games, I dread to think what super spells are going to be like?!

Ha! I've rolled a 2! Everything's dead!! :D
Little known Ogre fact No. 26:

The so-called 'Great Migration' was in fact a retaliatory invasion of Cathay.

But no-one tells an Ogre he's going the wrong way....

Reminds me of my old 5th edition Orcs and Goblins book, it had a big list o' beasties to choose from.

Because magic ISN'T POWERFUL ENOUGH. Right?

Might be time to think more seriously about Lizzies, like I've been flirting with.

What is disturbing is considering what expanding on the eight lores means for armies with no access to any of the 8 lores. Dwarves, Ogres, Skaven, and Orcs and Goblins look to be left out in the cold. Oh goody a big ass monster that will die to a cannon shot or the super magic I don't have access to. Yeah!  :|

Do we know it's only going to be the BRB lores? GW were pretty good at giving something to everyone in apocalypse, assuming that this is the equivalent.

Incoming: Storm of Magic

Storm of Magic - when the eight winds howl...

Ogres, Skaven, Greenskins, and especially Dwarves do not use any of the 8 winds. :) Maybe Ogres will get access to one of the lores like how TK will get access to Light, Death, and their own lore. Beasts would be the most likely candidate.

I am assuming that we will get "monsters" instead... which will be killable by the new spells.

I see that the "oh noes, this optional supplement that no one has to use as it will not affect the current game just like Apokalypse but I must hate it anyway" feel has totally taken over the internet.

Warseer spawns FTW!

Fair 'nuff. Even then, I doubt the magic stuff will be exclusive to armies that can take the BRB lores. As you said, it means leaving their Orc and Skaven babies out in the cold!

as a 10 year player of tyranids i HATE apocalypse games.... not because of the lack of tyranid choices but because it goes from tactical battle between two generals to who brought more bigger stuff.  i know 1 orc player who has 4 orc stompas!
so i feel the same blah interest here.
i'll wait to be proven wrong... but i won't be surprised when i'm not.

I really don't see any indication that this is the Fantasy Apocalypse. There's talk about magic becoming powerful and big monsters, but not massive armies that draw out your entire figure collection. It feels more like when they were advertising Spearhead, though I hope it is more game-changing than Spearhead was. (Does anyone even play Spearhead? I never heard anything about it after its release.)
This is Wiki, the pet gnoblar. Say hello, Wiki.
No-one ever played Spearhead. Ever.

Although it hasn't been explicitly stated that it is the Fantasy apocalypse, it'd be pretty silly to make magic even more powerful and introduce loads of new monsters without upping the scale a bit.

First I wanted to ask what Spearhead is, but then I searched for it and again I had to realize that some very intelligent German apes do translate the original English names for GW products to German.
But...no, I never played it, I just know it exists.

I don't need no Storm of Magic, I need a storm of fat guys with clubs.

But I'm excited about some new monsters, just modelswise.

I'm expecting a total flop like most of GWs expansions AKA bad excuse to buy models you can only use in a special game.
Who Played Planetstrike? . . . No one
Spearhead? . . . No one
Battlemissions? . . . Originally, a few. No one since they realized the missions were broken
Apocalypse? A few people who like to break out their monstrous fluffy collection and have a weekend to devote to one game.
Cities of Death? A few people but most didn't have the terrain to pull it off and 5th edition effectively ended it.
Planetary Empires? Who even knew or cared about planetary empires?

Too often these dumb expansions turn into who has the bigger ________ and are not really fun to play.

Please GW, don't waste our time and your money with another useless expansion. I'd rather get new books/models for my Ogres and Tau.
i like battle missions..... as long as you play 2 games: one of mine, one of the opponent.... if you need a tie break, though, you need to go back to the main book.

(or my collected binder of scenarios i've collected over the years)

i loved cites of death too.... but then again i'm tyranids, so a whole terrain set up that lets me not get shot rules!

the rest, i completely agree.  i don't even think i've seen planetary empires.
