I'm headed to Arlington, TX today for my first tourney. Hopefully I will get a few warm-up games in today and be ready for the tourney to begin in the morning. I will be posting battle reports throughout the day tomorrow just to let you know how the ogies are faring. Here is my list:
Tyrant GW, HA, Tricksters Helm, Greyback Pelt, Mawseeker
Slaughtermaster Bloodcleaver, Skullmantle, Crown of Command
Best of luck! You're sure to face some stiff competition.

I had a really great time today.
Game 1: Lizard hordes 40 Saurus with Oldblood 40 temple guard with slaan 40 skinks with 3 krox 2 units of 2 salamanders 1 unit of skirmishing chameleon skinks
Highlights: Turn 2 I charge all 3 bull units and the ironguts into the saurus. I flub charge rolls of 6 and 7 and only get into combat with 2 bull units - one of those with my tyrant. i dont get off toothcracker for the stubborn and i lose combat by seven, flee and everyone gets run down with the saurus overrunning into my guts. poor guts hold the whole game until he tables everybody else and they get surrounded and wiped out. i get completely wiped out. meh...4 Points
GAME 2: Themed Chessmen Ogres He had Tyrant BSB SM Butcher 15 bulls horde 4 guts 4 yhetees 2 maneaters 2 leadbelchers
Highlights: Super cool opponent and really funny army. I did braingobble his yhetees off the table. the rest of the game ended up with a huge fight all centered around his horde. i ended up tabling him in like turn 5. I just lost 1 scrappie. 20 POINTS!
GAME 3: Rat Hordes 40 Stormvermin with seer on bell and BSB 4 * 40 slaves 2 * 5 Rat Ogres 2 A-bombs 1 cannon
Highlights: I thin out the hordes pretty hard turn 1 with my scrappies. My guts charge the weakest slaves and overrun into the stormvermin. success! i scare off one A-bomb with my flaming ironguts and he retreats turn 1. the other one i got to deploy way opposite the rest of the scrum. i really dominated turns 1 and 2, but then never could finish off the bell. I ended up killing the entire stormvermin unit and the seer off of the bell, but not the unbreakable bell. a-bombs i baited around the entire game. both scrappies blew themselves up turn 3. sadface. his rat ogres demolished one of my bulls units. Points count was kinda crazy. Ended up a minor victory for him with me getting the objective, so i finished this game with 10 points. Super fun, competitive, laugh a lot game. skaven vs ogres is a fun matchup like ive never really had before.
So I ended the day with 34 Points which is right in the middle of the pack. I should have some really fun games tomorrow I am hoping.

Nice first run. I think middle of the pack is a good place to be for ogres. I'm looking forward to your second day

Now all we need is the 7th edition rule that said if the models are killed they don't get to fight and we WOULD be a broken army! lol

I agree. You want to put off those top table games until you have to play them.

What a great event. I told my wife, "I really had the time of my life!" Anyway, on to the reports!
GAME 4: Table 23 of 50, so about mid-tier Opponent: Tomb Kings Tomb King Tomb Prince High Priest on a flying thing Priest on the casket of souls 30 tomb guard 30 archers 30 skeleton warriors 2 scorpions 2 catapults 4 swarm bases
Highlights: I was able to deploy all of my ogres directly across from the hierophant and basically charge straight across while keeping everyone in my General/BSB bubble. My 2 gnoblar units held up his skeletons/tomb king for multiple turns while i wiped out the archers and then the tomb guard. Then I turned the flank and cleared out the rest of the army. Magic the whole game had little effect - even though I consider my army very gut magic reliant. I did use some spells in my player turns, but everything was always dispelled during opponents turn. I was able to minimize tomb king magic and let the simple spells through and stop the important stuff - like the casket! Scraplaunchers did a ton of damage. I feel like I had a very favorable matchup plus the dice really helped me this game. I passed some clutch leadership tests on my flank while my main army wiped everyone out head on. Result: 20 point win!
GAME 5: Table 11 now, uhh - ohh Dwarfs Runelord BSB Thane 40 warriors w/ HW/Shield 40 warriors w/ GW 10 warriors redirecting unit 30 hammerers 30 hammerers 1 cannon 1 stonethrower 1 organ gun gyrocopter 10 scouts with crossbows and GW
Highlights: I really felt like I played one of the best games of my life, and gave myself a chance against some pretty stiff odds. This game got my hands down vote for best game and maybe the best game of warhammer I have ever played. Great Opponent who won best dwarf ahead of Texas legend Aaron Chapman. Top of 1 he shoots stone thrower on Slaughtermaster's head, scores a hit, fail Look Out Sir, 6 wounds, Dead! I send all my ogres along his left flank while my gnoblars get in position to stall the right flank. My ironguts/BSB/dead SM unit took all the artillery fire and the Ironcurse wasn't enough to save many. My scrappies were absolutely priceless in killing off around 50 dwarfs and thinning out the big units substantially.
My turn 3 I tried to pull off my greatest come from behind victory with a crazy succession of charges. Though my army was on the left, I realized that my only chance was to sweep across his army from the right. 1. My gnoblars and leadbelchers flank his far right warrior unit w/ his runelord. 2. My right most ogre unit actually charges straight forward to get in combat with his hammerer unit which was sitting directly to the left of the warrriors with the gnobs in their flank. 3. 3. My bull unit w/ tyrant has a gyrocopter right in front of them to prevent them from a charge that will matter, so they stay put. However my guts unit (initially on my far left) is able to charge the flank of the gyrocopter in front of my tyrants unit in the middle of the field - with the hope of overruning into the flanked generals unit all the way on the right side.
After I declared my weird charges he all of a sudden realized my crazy plan - and was actually worried for a split second! All of the following would have to take place in one round of combat. 1. My ironguts would first kill the gyro, overrun into the flanked warriors/runelord unit on the far right. 2. Then I would have to win that combat and let my gnoblars/ leaddies overrun into the flank of the hammerer unit that just got a bull unit charged into its face. 3. Then I would have to route them and now be into the flank of the next unit of warriors for the next round of combat while my ogres and ironguts who charged forward demolished warmachines.
All of this was made possible by scrappies thinning the huge units and a 50 pt unit of gnoblars barrelling down the flank of the enemy causing disruption and using their own ranks to prevent steadfast.
It was a great plan until my ironguts only overran the gyrocopter by 4" and didnt make the 7" they needed. Ohh well, it was super fun. The mean ole dwarfs then proceeded to wipe everyone out without the support that I had hoped for. My tyrant unit got surrounded in his turn 4 and wiped out, but then my scraplaunchers, who were my last 2 units, went for the glory. they both charged the runelord's unit and directed all of their attacks toward him. They did succeed in getting 2 wounds, but couldn't manage the necessary 3rd.
Victory for the Dwarfs.
I finished with 58 battle points, which I am completely thrilled with. What's more is I made some really great new friends and even made off with the 3rd Place Sportsman prize. Great weekend! Thanks for reading!

Hey all,
Dwarf player from Round 5 here. Still working on the report, but I'll let your Ogre brother here know when it's up.
Just wanted to weigh in that it was an outstanding last game, and couldn't have asked for a better finish to the tournament. I'd had some great opponents, and I thought my Round 3 game was a lock for my best sports until this game. Incredibly friendly and still extremely tactical game. I got overconfident and ended up pushing forward in to danger- with a bit better fortune for the ogres, that game is a draw for me at the very best, and probably a crushing loss.
Other things of note: Ogres were on Table 11, 12, and 13 at the start of the 5th round! I do believe there were more Empire lists, I think the one above just got a bit cut off. My results sheet shows a second player down at 148 points overall...
Anyhow, cheers for the great game. Here's hoping to see you again at Cap City Carnage!
