After our run in with the Lizardmen we had been left mercifully at peace. I had even convinced Thaargh to head for the coast (to help with my picture-making). Upon our way one day a group of Gnoblars reported that there were human-things that smelled funny up ahead. Thaargh, stomach rumbling immediately ordered ranks. Taking the center himself, the Ironguts were to the right, another unit of 6 bulls, a swarm of Gnoblars, the Scraplauncher and more Gnoblars. To his left were leadbelchers, the 3 younger bulls and more leadbelchers. Opposing us was several groups of dire wolves and a group of gouls, not to mention some rotting Ogres with great weapons opposite the Gnoblars, two large untis of skeletons each with a necromancer and a great big unit of Black Knights complete with Blood Dragon and necromancer. Finally some skeletons and bats were opposite the leadbelchers.
Despite my attempts to convince Thaargh that no food would be found here he sounded the charge. The Gnoblars stymied the advance of the small units to the right with their thrown horseshoes and hedgehogs (and far less mentionable things). Unfortunately the Rhinox smelled something was amiss and immediately fled back the way we'd come, throwing Gnoblars as it ran. Thaargh showed he was more cunning than I had thought as the center moved up slowly as the bull units rampaged towards the necromancers. Despite coming under a tremendous amound of magical firepower two young bulls smashed a necromancer into dust but underestimated the speed of the dead things and were covered in a pile of bones. The large unit of bull was ready to do a similar number to the other necromancer but was charged in the side by three bats. Completely caught off guard the bulls only crushed one bat and were distracted long enough for the undead Ogres to charge their other fland the bulls thought to retreat toward Thaargh and regroup. As they ran they carried the message that there was no meat on these creatures. At word of this Thaargh immediately ordered everyone to withdraw from battle (translation: Thaargh's unit panicked from the fleeing unit of ogres, and was then charged and chased away by fell bats). Although the ironguts reduced a unit of skeletons and their necromancer to rubble most Ogres were long gone by this point, leaving the Ironguts trying to suck the marrow out of long dead bones.
* A nearly avoided massacre. The dice gods were VERY unhappy, not to mention I had one butcher with 2 dispel scrolls against 10 power dice and the book of arkhan. I still brought it down to a solid victory with my killing of all three necromancers. Thaargh now has a phobia of bats! The Gnoblars had couple opportunities for greatness fighting the ghouls, but like usual fell just shy. *
