It was getting dark when it happened. The ogres had just feasted, the Gnoblars were grabbing the plentiful scraps and I was working on my maps in the dying light when a rustle in the jungle alerted Golorg the Firestarter, butcher of the Samoan Ogres (as I now call them). Striding with purpose into the undergrowth Golorg caught countless poisoned darts in the chest but was undetered. Meanwhile the Ogre bulls formed up to examine this new threat, harassing the Gnoblars into action while they went.
Then I saw them...lizardmen. Two large groupings of large lizardmen, a number riding bizarre reptilian mounts and a trio of the firebreathing lizards we'd had trouble hunting, these being coaxed forward by small lizards like the ones to our flank. Thaargh immediately took off towards the most threatening Saurus he could find while the Rhinox pulling the Scraplauncher seemed drawn towards the firebreathing Salamanders (not the swiftest creature I've ever seen). While the mounted Saurus scared off some of the younger bulls they were caught unprepared for the countercharge of the Samoans finest Ironguts, smashing Saurus from saddles before withdrawing. The Salamanders breathed fire inefectually at the Rhinox before the skinks "convinced" them to fire upon Thaargh instead. I've never seen an inferno like that, leaving four of Thaargh's family members incapacitated and crawling back towards camp.
Undetered Thaargh thundered into the large unit of Saurus, squashing the one with the glowing standard beyond recognition while his cousin holding the standard crippled another of the saurus. Although taking wounds from the largest Saurus Thaargh continued unconcerned until the rallied mounted Saurus pincushioned the standard beared next to Thaargh. Being his favourite cousing Thaargh hoisted his fallen cousin and disappeared into the jungle. Luckily the Rhinox had completely lost its mind, careening through the Salamanders, leaving steaming bodies in its wake and into the side of the second saurus unit, which it scattered to the winds, Gnoblars holding on for dear life. Sufficiently bloodied the Lizardmen withdrew rather that persuing, allowing us time to recover from the carnage they had reeked among us.
* Minor victory to lizardmen. My tactics were sound, but the Salamanders scoring 26 hits, 13 wounds against my Tyrant's unit of five bulls was devestating and completely destroyed my center. *
