Captain's Ogres - Updated with Bulls

original thread ↗

Time to start a Gnoblog!  8>)  Hopefully over the next 2 months you'll see my army take shape.  Aiming for 2400 point for a tourney in late March.

Let's start with my Tyrant.

Started with a mino body, with the back and neck muscles significantly filed down.  Greenstuffed a decent gut and added gut plate from bulls kit.  Added boots, and greenstuffed over alot of the leg muscle detail so he looks like he's wearing pants.  Decided to add a pelt to his back, as the model was looking too fleshy (my first time sculpting fur, went pretty well!).

You don't quite get the sieze in the bick.  He's about a head taller than regular bulls, and as wide as a 40mm base!  I'll post some size comparison pics once I get him painted.
Awesome work! :)

The only real limit on the effectiveness of gnoblars is the owner's tolerance for painting so many of them.
Interesting look...

A couple suggestions? GS over the beast icon on the axe. The massive body makes that Ogre head look really small. Is there a general "bestial" theme for these guys? Maybe adding or extending the animal pelt to hang on and off his head would help balance out the top half?

Suggestions welcome.  Might be worth extending the pelt down a bit, though I was so happy with my first fur sculpt that I didn't want to mess with it.  Decided to keep the symbol on the axe, as it could be a trophy taken after defeating a doombull in single combat  8>) .
maybe a helmeted head would help make it less.... smallish
My Blog
I actually think the head's proportion is okay, looks kinda like Zangief's body.
Thanks to the small head appreciators.  You other guys are going to give my Tyrant a complex.  Perhaps I should name him to reflect it:   Krull the Small Minded, Kip the Cranially Challenged... or something like that.

Actually the head never really bothered me.  Trimming of a huge amount of the back and the neck brought it closer to regular proportions, compared with other mino/tyrant conversions I've seen.  And as I like the head design I think I'll leave it.
I agree, the filing work you did on the neck make it look much more ogrish than the conversion I did for my BSB.  The small head looks good to me.  It is supposed to be out of proportion due to the massive muscles.   Body-builders heads don't get larger, do they?
Next up, some bulls.  As usual pic not quite right, but close enough.  They still need a little extra work, though they're up to gaming standard.

Going for a desert/tanned ogre theme.  8>)

Making great time on these guys.  Here's the latest wip's

Head looks fine to me. A bit more work and you'll have a great and distinctive Tyrant!

I second Rand's suggestion of filling in the axe, though. More scarring/battle damage or another symbol could go there — maybe the Maw scratched into his axe?
