Clan of the Cave Bear (Updated June 21/2012 WARNING picture heavy)

original thread ↗

I've posted on here before but this is the Start of my Gnoblogs:

The Clan of the Cave Bear

The clan is comprised mostly of uncivilized ogres, the leader of this group is Big Momma, and her Husband known as Big Poppa.  The two rule with strong arm tactics; it helps also that most of their army is comprised of Momma's Boys. Big Poppa is the true ruler however as with most cave woman, the highest rank they can have is Head Huntress, which is a title Big Momma proudly holds.

The cave ogres, and their gnoblar pets, worship the great cave bear, as well as hunt and raise the beasts.  Currently the army has two bears, which have been trained to carry the gnoblar scrap launcher.

The Clan of the Cave Bear also have a Mogur, the tribes great shaman, through his rites he decides the positions of the clan, rights ogres need to take to move up in status, as well as sacrifices that need to be made.  The Mogur may have more power than Big Poppa, however he is never considered the true leader only an adviser.  He has also nominated an apprentice who he trains to one day take his place, if he can muster the girth.

Four Toes
The rest of the group are merely inductees to the clan. The leader of the rest of the group is known to the clan only as Four Toes.  He is not from the tribe he did however make the pilgrimage to the great maw, where the beast ate one toe on each foot, as a sacrifice to gain knowledge and power.  At least that is the story he told Big Poppa to allow himself and his small army to join the Clan.  The truth could be just as Three Toes explained it, or not, however the fact is that Four Toes was in desperate need of the clan.

On the return from Four Toes pilgrimage they got caught in a terrible blizzard, causing Four Toes' army to diminish in ranks. When he arrived only himself, his second in command and eight of his iron guts survived, however it seems more are being led down the hill by the Clan's Yeti's all the time.

Other Monsters in the Clan

The Clan also have among their ranks a giant as well as two Gorgers, however unlike most ogre armies, the creatures as welcomed, willing to fight for the army and respected by them for their sheer power and force.  Though dumber than most of the clan and usually a little more isolated. They are given gifts and meat for their victories.

Now with the background out of the way.  Here are some pics.

Four Toes

Bruiser.
He actually has 8 toes but ogres have a hard time counting that high.
He is made from the body of the Frozen Horror, from a Hero Quest expansion pack, and a ogre head from a box of bulls.

Bulls

This is my first Ogre Bull Chief (Champion), the army is going to be the Clan of the Cave Bear, most will have some sort of skin or fur, all the bases are going to have the winter theme. Though not all will have the stream that I have going though here but I may decide to continue it throughout the army as well.

This bull is made from an ogre from Dark World, the iron fist from a bull, the bear head is made from a hero quest Bearman head cut then some greenstuff.

Gnoblog Clan of the Cave Bear
i guess i'll be the first one to say it.....where are their guts?  :o
the girth of the ogre is one of their biggest(and most valued) things about them. and comprises most of their fluff and backstory in the warhammer world.

other then that, i do like the backstory, especially four toes.
The guts are with Four Toes, also in his story, they are the ones that survived the being stuck on the mountain blizzard/avalanche.
Gnoblog Clan of the Cave Bear
i think he means guts as in giant stomachs to impact hit into people... the holiest of holy things in ogre lifestyle.
why are they so skinny?
NOTHING TASTES AS GOOD AS FOOD
FOOD IS THE ANSWER
IF YOU'RE NOT EATING... YOU'RE NOT LIVING
Haha oh, those guys are cave ogres, more leaner build. (also older model, most older ogre models where skinny)  the bulls in this army will be skinny everything else save maybe the tyrant and huntress will have a good layer of fat.

Essentially for my fluff, the cave ogres are an entirely different breed of ogre, than the standard.
Gnoblog Clan of the Cave Bear
Big Un's
These are my Big Un's they are the biggest of the big in my Ogre arm, except for the giants of course.  But these guys are mostly completed only the bases need some work

And to give you a hint of there size, this one is set next to a regular ogre bull

Old School Ogre
This is an older ogre Model I think he will temporarily be part of my iron gut unit till I can find more to fill the ranks with.

Gnoblog Clan of the Cave Bear
Bear Riders (Mournfang stand ins) WIP
Champion
This guy is a malformed hunchback, he lacks the feeling of pain a therefore is very revered, his Mount is an albino bear (can't tell yet).  As for the WIP the rider is going to need some more bits as is the bear before they are done.

Musician
This guy plays the drums and plays all three well (for ogres that is), this guys is very early stages WIP, I think I may make him and his bear darker.  Possibly a black bear, and him with a dark or light browned skin.

Skull Throwers (Leadbelcher stand ins) WIP
The fluff behind these guys is way different then standard leadbelchers.  My story goes like this, a butcher, possibly a firebelly crafted a very unique substance.  Trough trial and error (mostly error) he created a substance that if kept mostly contained and in heat it would be dormant, though once heated if allowed to cool it would explode in its container spewing a substance not unlike modern napalm.  Once he had perfected it he filled the substance in skull (cause they where more intimidating that way) and held special rituals and training for special ogres to learn how to use them.  As such the ogres that are trained this way have an honor to leave their guts unprotected so show they have no fear.  As a result of the training and this honor most bear horrendous burn scars, from letting the skulls cool, or getting overzealous and crushing the skulls in their meaty hands.

Anyways enough fluff this is the first model, he has facial burn scars and I believe most of his right side will match.  Not sure if you can see it but I carved off the right half of his face then rebuilt it, making saggy burn scarred skin.

Gnoblog Clan of the Cave Bear
I like the look of the new minis, and the fluff behind the skull chuckers. But, the hunchback's pants look very big, and very poofy, almost comically so.

Ya, he's actually just got a really big butt, he's supposed to have gotten so lazy riding his mount that he can now barley walk.  However there are going to be bits to kinda hide it a bit more.

Cool idea with bear riders, though the bear models (toys?) you have found are not very dramatic, or bear-like. The face looks more like a dog and the shoulders are higher up than the hips (it should be the other way around). Not your fault of course, but you may want to look for alternatives. Scibor has some cool armoured bears, although very expensive.

I like your tribe though, it has a cool theme and the paint jobs are very nice and clean :)
It was a terrible, indescribable thing vaster than any subway train—a shapeless congeries of protoplasmic bubbles, faintly self-luminous, and with myriads of temporary eyes forming and un-forming as pustules of greenish light all over the tunnel-filling front that bore down upon us, crushing the frantic penguins and slithering over the glistening floor that it and its kind had swept so evilly free of all litter.

Never really saw this post, sorry, thanks for the compliments.  I think I will stick with the bears I got, nice and cheap, though I sacrafice the dynamics, they should look better when finished.

Iron gut
This is the first Irongut, did the champion as a color scheme test, I think it turned out pretty good. :)
Gnoblog Clan of the Cave Bear
very nice.... if anything, the fur could use a little more work... looks blant from the picture.
My Blog
Like the work on the millstone, really looks like it's just been pulled out of the earth.
Nice crisp painting and scheme throughout, good stuff  :)
Bulls have grey skin. 'Nuff said.

Not sure what Blant means, but the colors did get a tad blown out by the light, especially in the brown, but it the fur may need another highlight, has about 3 or 4 layers of brown as is.

Thanks, that's exactly what I was going for with the stone.  Thanks for the comment as well :)

Actually, I think both the boots and the fur are a little flat. Not bad, but not as good as the rest of the irongut (which does look pretty good).

Great model! The dark turquoise pants give him a little bit of an art deco feel. More of that please! :D

And the bears are of course fine as long as you are happy with them :)

Tyrant with Iron Guts

Vulk Skulltaker
Vulk skulltaker is the Tyrant of the Clan of the Cave Bears, he carries a hammer with a massive gemstone, some say it is magical other that Vulk is simply very skilled with it. Whatever the lore, the truth remains that Vulk has the strange talent to remove heads with it, without damaging the skulls. As he collects the bones of creatures he's killed, but favors skull above the rest.

Two Guts and a Musician

Bruiser
No story for him, just like the model too much to have him just as a Maneater

Those are my models, the butcher is made from bull head and arms, and bits from ghouls and brets,, the rest is Green Stuff.

The slaughtermaster is an old Nurgle Model that I re-sculpted, adding more flesh, to give him the full bloated look.

Thanks, for the comment glad you like them :)
