The rise of Nazroth the Devourer, Archtyrant of the Thundersons Clan

original thread ↗

I am not the most knowledgeable about Ogre history, but this is something that I put together, kind of a chronology of my Ogre Tyrant's rise to prominance.  Further stories will follow as I use this for the launching point for future Battle reports detailing the movements of the Thundersons Clan across the old world.  Comments and critiques very welcome.  If I'm getting some kinds of dates wrong please advise.  Thanks in advance.

2510 – Gut Badmouth is slain by Graesus Goldtooth in single combat.  All that belonged to Gut Badmouth including his tribe are taken by Graesus.  Nazroth is given a place amongst Graesus’ iron gut squads.

2511 – 2515 – Graesus continues his crusades against the tribes located along the Silver Road and the pass through the mountains.  Many more tribes are brought into Graesus’ growing Empire.  Witnessing the merciless slaughter that Nazroth can unleash, Graesus promotes him to be the rank of Gutlord over his squad of Iron guts.  Nazroth finds himself enthralled by his new Tyrant.  Graesus is a ferocious leader, completely dedicated to the uniting of his glans in favor of a great future.

2516 – Graesus sends Nazroth and a squad of his bulls to the far West land of Cathay at the behest of the Dragon Emperor in an effort to quell a Skaven Warlord’s push into their lands.  It is during this conquest that Nazroth is given the title Rateater as it is at his devouring of the Skaven Warlord that the conflict draws to a close, the leaderless Skaven retreating into their pits.

2518 – Nazroth is again dispatched by Graesus to the East, this time as a mercenary detachment paid for by an Imperial Noble.  After killing a group of pirating orcs, Nazroth and his squads make their way back into the mountains after devouring the orc warriors.  Rumors abound that Graesus has lost his edge as a Tyrant, favoring wealth and possession over dedication to the Maw.  Those that raise question are slain and eaten by the Overtyrant.

2521 – Graesus’ realm is invaded by heinous monsters from the East.  Daemons of all forms begin to push into the mountains and Graesus uses his forces to push the monstrous machinations back into their own realm.  It is later discovered that a wary Empire Detachment stumbled upon Daemon’s Stump and rustled the Daemons into the natural realm.  Nazroth is seriously wounded in the fighting and will forever bear the scars of his encounters with the Daemonic.  These scars will forever mark him as a Daemonslayer and champion amongst his iron guts.

2522 – 2524 – Rumors arise again rise in concern of Graesus’ ability to rule.  Entire ogre tribes within his kingdom are overtithed and begin turning upon each other for sustenance.  Ogres within the Kingdom begin questioning whether Graesus’ lust for wealth outweighs his duties as Overtyrant.  Nazroth and his squads of iron guts are sent to quiet the questioning tribes.  Nazroth’s mind is wracked with the decimation of tribes supposedly loyal to Graesus.  Entire tribes are starved, their bulls barely large enough to support their gut plates.  The slaughter is easy and over the next two years, only the strongest tribes within the kingdom survive.

2255 – Nazroth, tired of being a mere underling challenges Torgut, one of Graesus greatest bruisers, to a duel.  Removing their gut plates, both ogres enter the pit knowing that only one will rise.  Before the battle begins, Nazroth opens the scars dealt to him by the daemons, blood oozes from the scars and he rubs it about his body.  An otherworldly strength overtakes Nazroth and he smashes Torgut into the ground before devouring his entire body, leaving nothing of the prominent bruiser within the pit.  Nazroth earns the title of bruiser and a seat at the right hand of Graesus.  Nazroth takes on his new title, the Devourer.

2256 – 2258 – As one of Graesus’ top advisors, Nazroth begins to realize the way Graesus leads from the rear, his mind constantly focused upon the accumulation of wealth.  Instead of using his power to conquer the world in the name of the Maw, his mind is focused upon whoring his culture out for wealth.  An age of mercenary work takes over Graesus’ realm.  Nazroth feels as a slave being traded out as he and other ogres are sent about the world to pillage in the name of Graesus’ gain.

2260 – Returning from a campaign in Lustria, Nazroth ascends the mountains to find Graesus more of a glutton than ever.  His throneroom is covered in gold and the ogre tribes surrounding his kingdom live as merciless mercenaries, the ideals that made Nazroth such a devout follower of Graesus had fallen away, and Nazroth began plans of his own.  In midwinter, during one of the great feasts, a Cathayan caravan is attacked at the beginning of the Ivory Road.  Those ogres sent to protect the caravan are slaughtered and the caravan is devoured to the last Cathayan guardsman.  Enraged by such insolence, Graesus immediately puts Nazroth in command of his greatest warriors in an effort to locate and destroy the new clan.

2264 – Four years of continued raids upon caravans see tithes decline from Cathayan nobles, relying more heavily on their own protection then paying Graesus for protection they no longer feel he can give.  Furious, Graesus blames Nazroth for his inability to find the rebel clan.  Graesus realizes there may be a reason to Nazroth’s failures, and soon his assumptions are proved correct when Nazroth himself decends upon a Caravan meant for Cathay.  Nazroth spares a single ogre from Graesus’ force.  The ogre, his feet and hands eaten is sent back to Graesus along with a warning, that the Maw watches over only those worthy of its call.

2265 – Nazroth the Devourer, self proclaimed Archtyrant of the Thundersons Clan creates for himself a kingdom in the northern wastes, destroying a clan of marauders and wandering chaos warriors establishing himself as a staple of the northlands.  Ogres of varying clans hear of the treacheries of Nazroth and soon join him and his clan, creating a monstrous fighting force in the Northlands.  From here, Nazroth rages war against the Old World in dedication to the Maw… and as some believe, other ruinous powers.
