Skyonn's Fall: 4 player Warhammer campaign

original thread ↗

So myself and 3 others having picked up Warhammer after 8th edition came out played quite a few games and now hunger for some campaign fun. Well I hunger and I'm making them feel the hunger too ;)

Looked over several write ups people have posted on how to do a campaign and the rules they use and borrowed some ideas and rules. Most though is just my mind exploding onto the page. There will be spelling errors, grammar problems and I bet sometimes I'm talking to myself, in 3rd person, to the other players and even to no one in particular. I've written it for us to enjoy and for it to be a simple campaign with not too much accounting and writing up and more gaming. Winning should take many battles and no one battle should determine too much.

Rather than spam it all here I've posted it up on google docs which has removed some of my formatting but makes it easy to spread around. So please have a look, comment on anything you would add or change and any ideas or criticism.

Thanks for looking.

Made a few tweaks to the above that if anyone has read it might have picked up.

Felt that obtaining 4 shards on map I've created is a tad easy(ish) so upped requirement to 6 to gain understanding to mine meteor in middle and 3 to craft a shard magic item. Also made it so shard hexes don't contribute to army points but just amount of those points that can be spent on magic items to give players a choice of getting more magic items or more army points when it comes to invading hexes.

Felt also that character deaths was harsh so did a new table with 1 dead, 2 stat loss, 3 - 5 ok and 6 gain XP. Little nicer or else I imagine people will simply drop characters once they have lost an eye or such and we won't see too many gnarled old gits in games.

Here's the map I've knocked up too:

I like the campaign but the hero death chart is something that has been covered in many supplements that GW has made. I would try looking at te warbands main rules for their player death chart or the mordheim character death chart. Otherwise the campaign is amazing i love the idea on the use of the shards and the territories and points.

Good Job
Thanks, not looked at anything really apart from a few char and unit XP bits in other campaigns so will follow your advice. Tried and tested will be very helpful.

Edit: Hmm..had a look at the War bands D66 injury chart and it seems pretty harsh in comparison to my latest version. I think after 1 or 2 games players will just retire characters. I'm limiting everyone to no lord level characters and max level 2 casters for the idea of developing them. I reckon with harsh injuries they never will ;)

Mordheim's is equally quite brutal. I'm expecting most Heroes to did every other game on average. While realism might say to use the D66 charts I think it will kill em off too quickly.

Will see how it works out and report back ;)

with a table like the ones in mordheim and warbands it causes players to think on what they do with their characters. my gaming group uses the warbands character death chart in all our games as we play an ongoing narrative campaign. it causes people to be more conservative in my opinion, i dont really know its effects though because i havnt had a character die yet in our campaign let alone have a single loss, but the other players in my group like the system alot.

Id love to try your campaign out when you set all the rules in stone as it seems liek a really fun campaign.
Aye, I've created lots of little quirky things and I'm going to have to keep an eye on them all and make sure it clicks ;). We are all aware we may end up changing rules on the fly and char deaths may well be one of them. Hope is that people are tactical about the battles they pick, the armies they make and how they use their units.

Looking forward to earning some XP myself and naming all my Ogres ;) That and squishing Chaos and Tomb Kings who are my immediate neighbours. Starting at 1500 points I'm predicting my friends Orcs and Goblins as being in a very good place as I can't afford a BSB and caster so have 1 in each of the armies.

Fun times ;)

its a scrry thing to not have a bsb i had a bad situation vs lizardmen where he one the combat vs my 18 ogre bulls and a butcher causing them to flee and i rolled snake eyes. He overran and killed my largest unit on the battlefield if that hadnt happened i wouldve won the gam instead of a tie. i like the roster you have its very well made and organized.
Aye, one of the elements I'm trying to create in this campaign is a lot of thinking about unit choices, tactics and fear of losing units. I'm going to push hard at the start to get the points to build the skeleton of my forces and add gear options and extras as I get more. First thing will be getting a butcher and BSB in each force ;)

good idea, my campaign force is at four thousand points and i have the strongest magic phase which contributes to me winning games thanks to buffs, and the BSB has saved many of my units from running away countless times. a strategy i like to use is to keep my bsb and tyrant in one of my ironguts units and on both sides have a brick of gnoblars, the gnoblars become extremly resiliant by using the tyrants leadership and the extra reroll, it confuses the enemy when a unit of gnoblars basically becomes steadfast.
