Both the black Orc Warboss and the orc shaman have now been painted, adding another 560 points (approx) to my painted pile. :)

I know I'm being a bit rubbish about getting pics up, but that takes time and I'd rather be spending that time doing more painting at the moment.  I will try and get some done in th next few days though.

I have, however, made an excellent advance in another field - army transportation!  I knew that with the unit fillers in every unit in this army that packing it away in a case would be a non-starter.  With approx 200 models in the army, getting everything out and packed away would be a pain.  As a result, I magnetised the movement trays and decided that all the units would be stored on their trays.

This meant I needed to come up with a box big enough and a way to ensure that the units themselves didn't slip around.  With an under bed plastic storage box, a cardboard box, a metal sheet and some corrugated cardboard, I've managed to structure storage that will hold the nuts in place while allowing me to stop every loose model from slipping around as well.

This has turned out really well and I can now pack and move this army in safety. :)

I've made a start on the chariots and hope to get half way with both of them this evening....but I may just start the big uns unit instead - I know what I'm doing with the orcs so it should be fairly quick to do them, and I event decided on a painting scheme for the boars yet.

The models for the mangler squigs didn't arrive today, but I hope they will get here on Monday or Tuesday, allowing me to get those units built.   I'm rather looking forward to that :)

I was born and bred in a briar patch!
A few more days have gone by and I'm writing this in a hotel room in Mansfield, preparing for the swiss cheese ETC team warhammer event tomorrow.  I have painted everything except the arachnarock (which is not released yet) and based the entire army too.  I brought it with me today, even though I'll be using the bretonnians in the event itself, to see if I could get a game in with the new army and the new rules.

I found Mark wildman and his rather beautiful beastmen army was up for a game and I quickly threw a 2400 point list together for the waaagh's first battle! :)

I lost, but only by 290 points and found out quite a lot.  Mark is an excellent player and we had a great game, he knows the beastmen very well (as anyone who has listened to bad dice recently will know) and he gave me a real test.  Anyway, onto those lessons:

Firstly, don't put two mangler squig units where the footprint of one unit of harpies can take the both out.
Secondly, animosity is not a problem anymore unless you don't want to fight (and what the he'll are you doing playing with this army if you don't want to fight??)
thirdly, doom divers are amazing and rock lobbers are ok but not great.  I might drop one for a night goblin shaman (mark's idea and it's a good one).

In general I am happy with the list and how it worked, but I need more practise.  Picking up a unit of black orcs and putting it down behind enemy lines was fun :), but having access to both the big and little Waaagh spell lores would be a very good idea.  I'll see if maelstrom has a model that can be used as a night goblin shaman tomorrow...

Pics of the army during the next few days once I'm back at home.  Honest ;)

Ta,

Well, one week on and I can say that

1) maelstrom had a vert model for a night goblin shaman in the form of the gremlin taxidermist from the malifaux game.  Love this little guy!  I think I'll make him a level 4!

2) the new book arrived on Thursday and is great.

3) the arachnarock is a great plastic kit.  Goes together very easily and if fun to work with.

4) I've finished painting the army! :). Pics tomorrow of everything.  I mean it this time!!!!

Very nice, I think the grey looks great on the night gobbos. I hadn't seen the mangler squigs before, cool.

The new book is barely out, how long did this take you?
Thanks! :)

I've been working on them mostly since January.  The arachnarock (the last model I did)  I sprayed black on Friday afternoon and had it painted/based by the end of Saturday.

I've had the rest ready for about a week now and I'm looking forward to getting in as many games with them as possible and getting some rep/stories/names for my characters and unit champs for a campaign weekend in April. :)

The answer to everything is sabretusks.  There is no problem that can't be solved at least in part with kitties.

Great work Wildcard :)

Impressive! That thing is huge...
Great looking army dude!
Looks great in the flesh (better than on the photos) and is very colourful, which I like.
I really like the BSB, I spent most of the game tonight with him opposite me, so got a good view.

The thing that impresses me most is the quality you've achieved for the time you spent, great stuff.

Great work, i really like all of the characterful conversions that are included.  I’m looking forward to hearing some battle reps.

Nice looking army. You pumped that arachnarok out pretty quickly.
What minis are the mangler squigs?
And I've forgotten, what is your night gobbo robe recipe?

If by RAW, you mean "Reg06's Audacious Whims", then you'd be right.

The mangler squigs are by a company called Hasslefree, UK based but cheap and relaible. :)

The robes on the night goblins are rather simple.

Undercoat black
Basecoat dhenb stone
Wash with badab black
Highlight with bleached bone on extreme edges only.

The whole army didn't actually take that long to do, less than 2 months including all the building time.  I can see myself expanding it further soon as well as I think that some fast cavalry units may well become important.

With a couple of events on the horizon, I've decided to expand the army a little more :)

Ive just built and undercoated an Orc character on a boar and one in a chariot. :)

I was also not totally happy with my lord on foot, so I've just done a weapon swap to give him a larger axe.  I'll be painting that up tonight and making a start on the others.  Should have them finished by the end of the weekend.  Its been nice to use up some bits and parts of models that I had already bought as well.

Next will be a unit of spider riders an a conversion for the new special character spider riding hero....but that might take a little longer as the grey knights are on their way!

Hold the phone!!

The grey knights are going to have to wait!  With the release of the landship by forgeworld, this army is getting one last big model as a centrepiece, a looted landship! :). After selling a few models, I've been able to fund it and now I must wait until the 28th to receive it....

I'll be having an Orc crew and will have some goblins hanging of places and generally making trouble.  Until I get the kit in my hands, it'll be difficult to tell what conversions are going where, but I'll keep you updated.  I'll only have 2 weeks to get the model ready for a campaign weekend though, so I'll need to work quick.

Work has been ongoing with the new chariot and the boar rider that I require for the Whoops! Apocalypse event, but I should have them finished either tonight or tomorrow with a little luck.  Pics when I'm done.
