Okies so the first decision to be made is do you take 1 or 2? of these bad boys.
Generally 2 is more reliable if you can afford the points but 1 can still do the job.
So why would you take them? Several Reasons
1. Terror
2. Maneuverability
3. T5 6 wounds
4. Thunder-stomp
5. When they die they can fall on things and do extra wounds
6. One of the Cheapest Giants out there
7. High Leadership therefore don't need to be near the General
8. Special attacks great vs.big blocks of Str3 troops
9. Opponent does Fear Test each round of Combat
Deployment
The Giants are generally used as flankers with either 1 on each flank or 2 on 1 flank if using 2 of them. However they can also be used as a support unit for our center making use of the Terror charge.
Two Slavegiants on one flank can be good as they can both charge the same unit simultaneously causing 2 terror tests and therefore doubling the chances of that opposing unit failing their Terror test and fleeing.
Hide the Giants behind Terrain (if you can) at the start of the game to help prevent Magic & Shooting on them.
Uses
Terrorising low Leadership units, so charge as much as you can vs. non ItP units.
Locking down big blocks of low Strength infantry (don't use them vs. White Lions or other Strength 5+ units for example). The Giants can work well with Gorgers who can also help lock units down.
Avoid troops with Poison attacks as this negates the Giants high toughness (Skinks, Ghouls, etc.. spring to mind here).
Which armies are Slavegiants best to use against?
Probably non/low-shooty &/or Low Leadership Armies
Orcs & Gobbos
Beastmen
Vampire Counts (avoid Ghouls)
Empire (non Gun-line)
Bretonnians
Ogre Kingdoms
Dwarves? (non Gun-line)
WoC?
TK's? (too shooty?)
Daemons?
Chaos Dwarves? (too shooty?)
Not so Good vs.
Lizardmen? (because of Skinks poison)
Dark Elves? (poison & shooty)
High Elves (due to ASF)
Wood Elves (Shooty List)
Skaven (Skye shooty list)
