Campaign/RPG thoughts

original thread ↗

I've been thinking and looking at various RPG and campaigns out there these days, and with the new arrival of my first ogre army in it's opening stages, I'm curious to see if I can't figure out some kind of campaign/RPG hybrid for the ogres. Sounds complex, eh? Maybe somewhat, but I'm still in the planning and scheming stages, so here's what I'm thinking thus far:

Each player creates a character of their own design based on a standard template. This character becomes their avatar of sorts, their representation of themselves in the game, and acts as the tyrant of their budding tribe. Each tribe is created by their tyrant, within obvious reason (ie: no Dragon Ogre tribes, no chaos tribes, etc.), with their own flavour, etc, but each starts on equal footing with a fluffy representation of their forces (note: this has nothing to do with the actual number of models owned by a player), including numbers, territory, etc.

Each tyrant must manage their kingdom, including ensuring everyone is fed and fighting off potential challenged (no details on this yet), or even expanding into rival neighboring lands. For ease, it may be prudent to create a map which can be monitored to keep things simple.

Such things can occur such as passing caravans, offers of alliances by Chaos Dwarfs or Chaos, weather, avalanches, roving Yhetees, thieving gnoblars, etc. Things to keep the tribes on their feet, maybe even things like great inter-tribe feasts.

Tyrants can embark on such things as climbing mountains, chasing giants, even making a pilgrimidge to the Great Maw.

Basically, it's all curious theory at this point, so I'd like to hear what others think.

I think it sounds excellent. Given the obviously enormous scope of such an undertaking, the mechanics could get a little bit complex, though.

I think the map would be an absolute necessity. It sounds like you are proposing some kind of turn-based system, and therefore distance is going to play a role in this to some extent...

Keep us posted - I'm definitely up for it when it happens!
This sounds like a good idea!!!!........A very complicated idea but still a good one.
