Skarsnik, the Lord's Ogres

original thread ↗

Hello my fellow Slaughtermasters! I'm back.

Some of you might remember me and my lava-themed Ogre army I painted a year ago. Now everything is changed, we have had a new army book for a long time and that means more painting.

I've been painting very busily because my armies are O&G, Ogres and VC, and all of them have gotten new army books for 8th edition. Also I have had a couple of commission painting works.

As you can see, I've cleaned my old gnoblog and here's the new one - I'll send here pictures of my painted Ogres right away.

- Cheers, Skarsnik.  :maw:

First of all the general of my army, a Slaughtermaster Naggrot Blackheart. He uses the Lore of Death. He's converted from a regular Ogre, the bodies on the base are from Corpse Cart kit.

Then a Butcher. He uses the Lore of the Great Maw. I converted him too from a regular Ogre.

Then my regular Ogres. I have 17 of them painted at the moment, and I have few unpainted of them. Also, I have a couple of Ogres that have fallen in the lava, but they're not in the pictures. All of the Ogres have iron fists. I made some small conversions too, mainly some weapon and iron fist swaps with the Mournfang kits. Also, there's a couple of halberds from the 5th edition Chaos Warriors.

- Cheers, Skarsnik. :maw:

Then my Leadbelchers, all six of them. I have a couple more of them on my work desk, but here's all painted ones.

- Cheers, Skarsnik. :maw:

Then my three Sabretusks. The models are converted from old Flesh Hounds of Khorne.

Then my favorite unit of the whole army - the Mournfangs. Here's all eight of them. Almost no conversions at all, only a couple of weapon or iron fist swaps from the regular Ogre sets. The other banner is replaced by an iron fist at the moment, as I realized I don't need a banner (the other unit already carries the Dragonhide Banner, after all).

Finally my Iron Blaster. Really nothing special, I liked to paint it. I didn't do any conversions, except I added the chain that goes over the cannon.

That's all from today. Tomorrow I'll send some pics of my army BSB, some Gnoblars and Ironguts.

- Cheers, Skarsnik. :maw:

Looking great! Good work!  :D
Great work, yer Lordship, the subtle bit-swaps really make the army stand out and add a lot of character.

very good looking models... the only thing missing, imho, would be some osl effect from the lava... that would easily take them from very good to amazing..

Stunning work.  I really like the beer stein on your butcher.  I may have to "borrow" that one  ;)

Is that Rainbow Dash's cutie mark I see on the banner?

Ditto ;)
Thank you all!  :)

I agree, but making the effect is very time-consuming project at least to me, so I won't do them yet. Maybe someday when I'm more patient and better painter overall.

Is that Rainbow Dash's cutie mark I see on the banner?

It sure is.

I have some new pics here too... First of all my BSB. He's converted from a Maneater, mainly his weapon, iron fist and head have been changed. Also, I gave him a banner. His great weapon and banner are not glued to the model, so they wont break as easily when they're packed. Also, they can be taken off in a game if they get on the way.

Then a couple of pictures of my Gnoblars. Gnoblars in the new book have not worked very well for me, so I guess I'm going to turn most of them into Goblins for my O&G army. I have ~ 80 Gnoblars, so I guess at least half of them will be turned into Goblins. Anyway, here's a couple of pics. The pics are very bad and the bases of  the Gnoblars need repainting, but they're here.

Finally I'm going to show a couple of group shots. Here's my 2400 points ETC comped army for a tournament coming next weekend. In a nutshell there's a Slaughtermaster with Lore of Death, a Butcher, a Firebelly, a BSB, 13 Ogres, 4 Ogres, 3 Sabretusks, 6 Leadbelchers, 5 Mournfangs and an Ironblaster.

That's all from today. I didn't have time to dust off my Ironguts and take pictures of them, but tomorrow you'll get some pictures of my Ironguts and kinda new spell markers.

- Cheers, Skarsnik.

Your BSB is very impressive, nice use of the Maneater :)
wow great stuff! i love it!

ive just started the hobby again, and ogres specifically, if i can get them anywhere near your level of skill, ill be a happy chap!!
Very nice blog, good painting, and some nice ideas.

Love the Gnoblars the most (just the right amount of color and realism). :)
My hood is my castle...
I like it all!  Well done!

Thank you all!  :>D

It's a time for a small update again. As you might see, I have removed the old pics of my Firebelly from this gnoblog, but fortunately I have some new and better ones right here. I redid his mohawk and repainted a couple of parts again, now I'm happy with the results.

Also, I have some pics of my spell markers! I have lots of spell markers for the Lore of the Great Maw because I built them when the old book was still there, but sometimes the markers are handy.

First of all the Spinemarrow marker. Really nothing special here, just some beer and cleavers for the Ogres to keep them motivated.

Then something for my Slaughtermaster. This is a marker for Aspect of the Dreadknight and Doom & Darkness. I think I don't need to do two separate markers, so this one will work well enough. The bat is from VC Bat Swarm blister.

Then a couple of Trollguts markers. Yummy.

And a couple of Bullgorger markers. Yummy again.

Then a couple of Toothcracker markers.

Then something a bit special... A lore attribute marker for the Lore of the Great Maw. I tend to forget the +1 to magic special effect of the lore attribute surprising often, so I built a small marker for it too. Even though it rarely helps, sometimes the +1 can help.

And finally a Soulblight marker for my Slaughtermaster. The ghost is cheering for the team, after all, it's the time for a celebration if I get the big Soulblight on the enemy fighters.  :D

That's all from today. Looks like the Ironguts wont show up here for a while, because the models need some repainting and fixing and I'm a bit busy with other projects.

Anyway, that's the majority of my Ogre army. Someday I'll be back, painting the rest of the army.

- Cheers, Skarsnik. :maw:

It's a time for an another update! Sorry about bad quality pictures.

First of all my scratch-built Butcher. He's supposed to use Lore of Beasts and a great weapon.

'

Then a couple more Mournfangs. These guys are meant to be unit champions, so they don't have helmets.

Finally a couple of group shots of my all ten Mournfangs!

- Cheers, Skarsnik. :maw:

How I Painted My Mournfangs!
Thank you all!

Sure! Here's a tiny tutorial how I paint my Ogres' skin.

1. Paint everything with Adeptus Battlegrey.
2. Highlight everything with Khemri Brown. Leave only a little bit grey showing from the recesses.
3. Highlight everything with a mix of Khemri Brown and Dheneb Stone.
4. Do it again, but this time with some more Dhened Stone.
5. Do some extra highlights on things like fingers, knuckles, nipples, ears and especially faces with even lighter mix.
6. Finally wash noses, lips and nipples with Ogryn Flesh (sometimes a couple of times to get a good redish color) and some Badab Blacks under the eyes.
