The Buk Huntrz

original thread ↗

Well, quick introduction and hello: I'm a 31 gamer who has spent almost 15 years away from tabletop gaming having played EVERYTHING GW did back in the day. Had huge thousands point armies of lots of races for WHFB, 40K and all games that sadly all disappeared long ago.

Coming back now tempted by the glory of the Maw and started collecting a nice fat Ogre tribe to confront my friends Orcs and Goblins and Skaven which the three of us are collecting rabidly currently. Will display images as I get around to painting and converting but to give an insight I had 15 parcels to collect today ranging from green stuff, dice, WH rulebook and more so we are getting back in the habit with gusto!

A few ideas for my tribe which might evolve, change and completely alter but at the moment a nice one is the Buk Huntrz. A tribe where the Tyrant has established the basics of reading! At least the odd letter or two after capturing a human scribe who bargained his life out of the cookpot with books involving pretty pictures of meat.

Now hungry to learn more he has organised a roaming Buk gathering feeling that these mystical squares hold the secrets to questions he doesnt know yet but he thinks might come one day. But not sure when or if.

Will update as I get stuff with a look at what I have and the shape of the force but for now wanted to link an interesting stand in giant I've grabbed:

hes quite a big'un but suitably giant like. Bit of modding, converting and green stuff, repaint and he should be stellar.

Well, not much painting has happened yet but so far I've amassed about 2.5 - 3k worth of Ogres so now the sorting starts!

Something that is driving me nuts is deciding on the theme, style and look of the army. I really like the idea of a Samurai/ Oriental Tyrant and bruiser combo with potential pirates as well....decisions decisions. I'm going to attempt to model my own Rhinox and 1 Scrap Launcher after I picked up 1 cheap and an orc stone thrower to use in the making of the 2nd.

So..sadly not Ogre at all but some snap shots of my first venture into modeling anything for many many years..a Bolt thrower/ Spear Chukka for a friend of mine collecting Orcs. Seemed like a nice intro piece before modeling up a trebuchet/ chukka Scrap launcher.

So onto the pics..some work in progress and the final unpainted shot:

In the final shot you can see a reaper half orc for comparison.

Also you can see the gnoblars need help to man it properly as they should ;) Figured any gobbo war machine would be stolen more than likely  8)

(sorry about photo size on previous post..on it)

So..lots of ebaying later I have my Ogre force assembled and quite happily field quite a force I reckon now. Will post complete list of peeps soon but for now the thing driving me to giddiness is the prospect of modelling my own 3 Rhinox.

Now I'm not spending £100 on 3 from GW but instead £18 on 3 special mini's I've found and will be converting. Ordered up some greenstuff, got all my tools assembled and some procreate on it's way and lots of ogre bits and soon 3 of this will be remodelled and rolling out as Rhinox:

Will be repositioning heads, legs, adding fur, removing the horns and changing them, extending the jaw and that's about all that is needed..oh and extending neck a little.

Need to get practicing ;)

OK, small update. Strangely not done any painting yet although I'm building up to it like a crazy man amassing more tools, paints, converting equipment, green stuff and terrain than I ever had. What I've mostly done over the last week or so is strip some plastic ogres off eBay and made some terrain for practice games happening this week. Discovered some simple stripping methods that all involve lots of toothbrush use but on plastic dont strip black undercoat - which isn''t too big a deal really.

Got my 3rd Reek arrive so Rhinox conversions will be on the horizon.

So.. gonna do an inventory after a little crazy shopping to see what I have in my army now and figure out what needs painting first. Planning on starting with bulls, my Irongut unit (that is going to get soem converting treatment and be called Lionguts) and build my way up to characters and Rhinox.

Got myself a scraplauncher to build, one to convert and about 100 Odd Gnoblar to paint. Will be fun.

So any pics? Well yeah..but not of any Ogres but instead some terrain I threw together. Including my version of a temple of skulls, an ogre pit arena and some walls, a tree and stuff.

Some walls, a wire tree covered in filler ready for base work and leafing! Oh and some pond/ swamp messing about:

My temple of skulls version (halloween polystyrene skulls ftw):

Pit Arena WIP:

Idea of what the Arena May end up like:

Essentially adding wood places for the Ogres watching the action, spikes in the arena, bones, weapons etc ;0

Terrain looks awesome!

Looking forward to seeing it painted up.
Little known Ogre fact No. 26:

The so-called 'Great Migration' was in fact a retaliatory invasion of Cathay.

But no-one tells an Ogre he's going the wrong way....
Cheers Bigkid, Like your hair ;)

Used wood filler for the texturing so plenty of sanding, then gluing of stones and flock, then painting. Going to be dark and nasty blackish sone textures and it might even be obsidian tower thing on the temple if it sands smoothly enough. Although not everything running perfectly ;)

Foam board = good for building walls, structures, steps etc..

Not good for the base as it bends slightly with stuff drying on it. Next time will be MDF boarding.

So temple of skulls has been fit for table painted but not yet finished..need to add new base, sculpt some more, add some bushes, bloody, weapons, altar type thing and done.

I've wanted to start my army painting and converting but weirdly I seem to be shying away from starting - that is until now..kinda. I will be starting a fresh bunch of bulls soon and converting each one with pose and look but to prepare for the greenstuffing I've done a little bits and bobs. Made a stonethrower for a pal, put together gorbad ironclaw and greenstuffed all the gaps, blended in the horrendous moulding and generally having a blast with green stuff.

So jumped into green stuff and converting my star wars Reek into a Rhinox. Through what you may call luck I picked up a Forgeworld Rhinox for about £5. He had a little damage on some fur, one ear broken and 1 horn missing along with his tail.

So far I've fixed his head on, greenstuff around the joint matching the fur, fixed 2 bits of damage in the fur, the ear, made the horn and tail replacement but not yet decided on the rider..

But this guy is helping me size up and shape up my Reek/nox. So..after about 1 hours worth of chopping up the reek, repositioning the front arms and head and starting to block out the body shape with green stuff I got eager and did some facial work.

Pretty happy with how it looks to far. Read lots of guides on green stuff over last few weeks but this really is the first stuff I have ever done.

More to come when it happens including a bout-bloody-time work on bulls and painting.
