The Eternal Hunger Tribe - Shrap's Gnoblog

original thread ↗

Greetings all -- Welcome to my Gnoblog.

My army background is posted in the appropriate section.

The Eternal Hunger Tribe, Ogre Kingdom of Slaanesh.

En route to my house are two Battalion Boxes and a Tyrant to get me started.
In addition, I have a Daemonette box on the way for conversions, with plans to by the Seekers box when it is released. That box will have larger bits, more appropriate for Ogres.

My first challenge is to develop an appropriate paint scheme for both my Gnoblars as well as the Ogre's flesh and clothing, all from a Slaanesh influenced (but not dominant) perspective.

My leanings toward the skin tone for one, the other, or both is:

I love the paleness, with the subtle purple of this. It is going to be time-consuming, but worth it.

What are your thoughts on this tone for both the Ogres and the Gnoblars? Should the colors be a bit different between the two, or universal? Should I put some light pink, like purple or light blue on the Gnoblars' ears, underbelly's, etc to give them a bit more a comical, "oi - let's fight en' eat!" look?
A friend suggested the above scheme for the Gnoblars and a similar scheme for the Ogres, but with a purple wash in between coats to darken them up a bit.
I want to be cautious of the purple on their skin, however, as I want their trousers or shoes to be Slaanesh  purple, a subtle influence of opulence and attempted aesthetics from their prince of gluttony.

I'm torn on these color choices; all comments are welcome.

Yeah, i think a deep purple on the trousers would work well, perhaps with gold trims/stripes for the more opulent look. Also, maybe some arm swaps for those pincer-like claws the keeper of secrets has and greenstuff some long tongues like the demonettes have.
Thanks for the feedback Bloodmouth.  The conversions are going to be really enjoyable to attempt.

My army arrived a few days ago:

Ogre Kingdoms Battalion x 2
Tyrant
Daemonettes of Slaanesh (conversions)

I've chosen my paint scheme for my Gnoblars, the stunty and nasty servants of the Ogres.   I opted for bright green skin with left-over scraps of purple cloth from their masters.

Here is a test run

Solid gnoblar. The second picture looks much nicer than the first.

If by RAW, you mean "Reg06's Audacious Whims", then you'd be right.

Gorge I love the long tongue idea. Thanks man.

I am very interested to see what my fellow Slaanesh Warlord will bring to the heat of battle! Gnoblar looks nice  :)

Have you thought about the general idea that your army will have in appearance? Mutated ogres or more the devoted maniacal look? Will you be doing much converting? Have you got any lore related to your army we could read?

As for the skin idea, I think that a purple wash might be worth considering. Also pure purple skin like other chaos ogres or excessive warpaint like my ogres will have are nice ideas.  :D

Looking forward to more WIP pics!

Greetings Birdhunter and the entire Ogre Stronghold hobby community,

I managed to find this thread, long lost and forgotten.  I returned to my Ogres in Jan of 2013 and realized that I failed to post here my work the last year and a half.  Oddly enough, I've managed a fair amount, and I'm happy to share with the greatest and most supportive ogre community on the web.

I went with a slightly cold, very "Slaaneshy" purple skin tone for my Bulls and other Ogres

the flash is bright in this pic, and sometimes the skin tone gets off a bit as it is heavily mixed in process. So I'm not as happy with this Tyrant:

Lastly for now let's look at my Butcher and some Banners

Thoughts, feedback and constructive criticism appreciated

Wow...a year and a half is a long time...

They are look good, I like the purple Slaanesh thing. I would be tempted to add in some gold/ yellow as these colours work really well with purple. Also for an opulent based army (the Slaanesh thing) then gold would not be unusual. If gold is too much then rust would work pretty well too.

They do look really good though, I would be interested to see a few more units and see how they pan out: an Ironblaster would be interesting as would the Slaanesh Mournfang. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the observations and suggestions.  The fluff has actually changed my paint style to focus on their quest for food, not anything lavish. Due to the gift and curse of Slaanesh they are always eating, but still and forver starving. So gold, etc is not necessary with them --- but I will explore the rust options most definitely.

Thanks.

now, here is a "sabretusk"  =  a Gnoblar on Steed of Slaanesh.  These are up next (2) and they will look like fun juxtaposed with Hellstriders of Slaanesh allied during our Triumph and Treachery games.
