tyrant on rhinox question

original thread ↗

i started to read kytes rhinox quide on making the beats but are there any rules on feilding tyrants on them?
the tribes grew and grew too much. now we follow the sun once more....
not yet. only ghark ironskin has rules for that and his is mechanical.
The only Tryrant at this point in time that can Ride a Rhinox is Ghark Ironskin. His stats where in WD308. Hope that helps sorry its not the  answer you where looking for.
Not yet, but you can convert one and use the rules for ghark ironskin or invent your own rules something about: bull rhinox 100pts. for tyrant, 70 for bruiser or hunter???maby???

Hmm... I'd say a bit more than that.  I've been pondering this same question.  I compared the Bull rhinox to the Carnasaur, as they have very similar stat lines.

Carnasaur:  730655245 - Ultimate predator, frenzy, scaly skin (4) Terror, Large target
Bull Rhinox: 740655245 - Bad tempered, thunderous charge, single minded, terror, large target

Both cause terror and both are large targets.

Carnasaur has frenzy and armor and each wound causes D3 (anyone who's used the tenderizer knows how nice that is.)  Frenzy is a mixed bag.  For an extra attack, you really aren't in control of your own unit any more.  Frenzy is much cooler when you have multiple models, each getting an additional attack. Here, you just get 1.

Rhinox has impact hits, but is hampered by single minded and bad tempered.  We'd have to decide what, if any, armor the rhinox has.  Probably not better than 5+ for thick hide and steel-plate barding.

An oldblood can take a Carnasaur for 210 points.  With a 5+ armor save, I would put a bull rhinox at about 180.  This puts it about even with the carnasaur, but strikes 30 points for the d3 wound advantage.

Of course, playtesting would be needed, but I think 180 for a Lord, and maybe "not available" for Bruisers would be a good start.

The D3 wounds is only against other Large targets, which the carnie rarely runs into, since a) you don't see them all that often, and b) it can't fly, so even if there is another LT on the table, you're not likely to get into combat with it.

Definitely not worth 30 pts, more like 10 pts.

One problem you'd run into is that for Rhinox Riders they combined the stat line, but the carnasaur is a monsterous mount which has it's own advantages and disadvantages that go along with it.  For Ghark they gave him a monsterous mount, but it is a mechanical rhinox and so that breaks the precedent set by the riders.  Would you then add the rhinox as a monsterous mount or just combine the stat lines, in which case you have to figure out how to combine saves, etc.  Also, in the OK book the baby rhinox is given a 4+ save on the scraplauncher.  The fact that the combined save for the rinox riders with light armor is 4+ makes me think that because ogres are so large, the combined save doesn't work so well.

Good point.  Perhaps a starting value around 200 then, with adjustments for playtesting as required.

Whenever one makes up rules, it's generally good to put the price a bit higher than you really think it's worth. People will be much more willing to play test something with you if it starts off being a bit underpowered than if it starts off overpowered.

200 pts seems okay.
