Ug's Pit of Maw - OOC thread

original thread ↗

this is one of the two new RPGs i'm launching simultaneously. after launching my poll to find which RPGs appealed to players Hragged commented that a Pit fighter RPG would suit ogres and a Mafia RPG would suit gnoblar so i have decided to launch both of those to see how much interest there is in them...

Ug's Pit Of Maw:
one day a Tyrant by the name of Ug Kinkiller invited his kin, even the distant relatives from other tribes (he was very hungry) to join a competition he was hosting, the idea was for a series of pit fights to take place. competetors would be split into four teams and would engage in battles with each other and any monsters that Ug's bulls could catch (eg yhetees, rinox & sabretusk packs) the winners of each fight would be given a piece of "Magic Meat" prepared by Ug's butchers. anyone who ate the MM would be revitalized and ready to fight again. any one who died he would eat.

magic meat - if your team wins you get a piece of this. it regenerates your health after each battle (basically the same as an extra life in a video game) each player starts with three. if you run out then you're out of the game. if your team wins but you run out of wounds first (are mortally wounded) then it counts as if you've eaten your piece of the meat. you start the next fight with the same number of meats as before but at full health.

monsters - in each fight there will be one or two monsters. the monsters used will be, Rinox, Sabretusk, Yhetee and Gorger. near the end i may include monsters from different areas of the world (brought home by Ug's Maneaters)

Teams - depending on the number of players i will have 2 - 4 teams, your team will work together to defeat the others and any monsters. if you successfully survive until all members of all other teams are dead (ran out of meat) your team will fight against Tyrant Ug.

Characters - will start out with the stats of an irongut, but you each get 5 Stat points to increase your character's stats. you are armed with only basic irongut equipment.

Turns -
  • T1 (team one) movement
  • T2 Movement
  • T3 Movement
  • T4 Movement
  • Monster Movement
  • T1 shooting
  • T2 shooting
  • T3 shooting
  • T4 shooting
  • Monster shooting
  • T1 magic
  • T2 magic
  • T3 magic
  • T4 magic
  • Monster magic

monsters don't shoot or use magic.

if there are any more questions please do not hesitate to ask them. :D

I'll have a go at this one too. Is there any limit to where the extra 5 stat points can go?
This is Epic... IM In
I'm in. Will magic and shooting come later?
players already have a shooting/magic phase. if you meant monsters... none of the more common mountain monsters have ranged attacks (eg sabretusk, rinox) however i just remembered that Jabberslythes have that tongue attack, so they will get a shooting/magic phase - i'll just edit the first post now.

"for the tower, the rules for defended building better be epic to make up for the 100 points for a piece of terrain; it better have wi-fi, a 50" flat screen, leather love seat and one of them there cee-ment ponds."
I'm up for this ... as Hragged mentioned - is there a limit to where those 5pts can go!? Could I have a T9 Ogre for example!?

Could always use the Maximum stat line from Mordheim.
Count me in!
Just out of curiosity, is there going to be experience and leveling?  Similar to the mordheim/necromunda/gorkamorka games?
i hadn't thought of that ... how about this, each level give you 3 points to spend on upgrading you skills. you level up by killing up players, monsters and getting victories.

each level is split into "level X 10" experience points. eg level 2 = 20 experience needed.

each time you kill a player you get two experience points. each monster gives you four points and each victory gives all team members (even casualties) three.

Kill a Player - 2
help Kill a Monster - 4
Victory - 3

i think this sounds pretty fair but if anyone doesn't like the idea of leveling up or thinks that there is a better way of doing it (i don't know how it's done in Mordheim but if someone tells me we could do it that way) please tell me.

I like it, however, when I played gorkamorka the thing that made the game really interesting (like it lacked that...) was the skills you could aquire when you leveled up.  Would you think about lowering the number of stat points and instead offered a set of skill tables that would be randomly rolled on level up (or at certain levels)?
i could make it one stat point and a skill... but i don't know what skills to make ... any help would be appreciated.

In the empires campaign rules there is a table for character advancements as well as tables for different skills like fighting, shooting, leadership etc.

I used them for a campaign we ran a month or so ago.  I could email the tables to you if you like.

I realize this isn't terribly constructive, but did I really just read that a Tzeentch Daemons army is having trouble killing Ogres?  I think I just felt the world end a little.
yes, thanks :D
