Instructions for using the campaign system
Teams: Any member can fight for any Warhammer Fantasy Race at any time, choosing sides however he or she chooses during the campaign. Hence this system allows users to turn traitor and do other unscrupulous acts (within the spirit of friendly gaming).
Overview and Objective: To win the campaign the Forces of Good or Evil must control the entire map. At the start of the game half of the map is controlled by each side with the sites in the middle of the map contested equally by each side. Sites are linked by arrows on the map, and are automatically invaded once control of the previous site has occurred. An interesting event happens when a site has been encircled but this will remain up to the users to find out.
Mechanics of Site Control: Each user may enter a battle report once a day. This battle report is expected to have been the result of a real Warhammer Fantasy battle of any points that the users wish. Each report will count for a certain number of points for the Forces of Good or Evil as well as the specific Warhammer Fantasy race, a win is a single point, a tie is no points, and a loss is a negative point. Users that verify their battles against another user will have their wins and losses worth more points. The aggregate number of points for either the Forces of Good or Evil will determine the chances of winning in that site.
Campaign Map: The campaign map indicates all the different battle sites that are possible in Lumbria, as well as the links between the different sites. Opening the options panel for each site is done by left mouse clicking on the site. Displaying the victory status of the site is done by holding the mouse pointer over the site and waiting, allowing a small text box to display the name of the site as well as the percentage of Good and Evil victories. Contested sites are indicated by the crossed swords icon as well as a mix of light and dark color meaning that battles are currently being waged in that area. Sites that are controlled by the Forces of Good will be bright, while sites owned by the Forces of Evil will be dark.
How to Enter Battle Reports: Open the options panel for a contested site as described in the Campaign Map part of the help. On the page will be a box containing the words Report a Battle. My Race is where you select the Warhammer race that you played in your battle (click the left mouse button to bring up the table containing the race names, click again to select your race). Enemys Race is the Warhammer race that your opponent played in your real Warhammer Fantasy table top battle. Win/Loss/Tie is where you select your outcome of your battle. Side Youre Fighting For is where you select which side, Good or Evil, that you fought your battle for. Leave the boxes Enemys Name and Key unchanged as those are only used for verified reports.
To enter a verified battle report requires both you and another registered opponent to play a real Warhammer Fantasy battle and both log into the campaign and make a specific report. Each player must fill out a corresponding report. Enemys Name is where you enter the online name of your opponent. Key is the secret code name that you both agree to use for that specific battle. You must both enter in an identical key or the battle will not be verified. No key may ever be used more than once!
Everything about your battle report and your opponents report must be correspond exactly, including the specific battle site you are fighting in. Once a report is verified by both players entering their report, the campaign system will automatically upgrade their reports points value.
For example: Jake playing Lizardmen and Elton playing Dwarfs fight a battle. Jakes Lizardmen fighting for the Good side win the battle that they have decided took place in the Middle Mountain battle site. They agree to use the key 01. Both players log onto the campaign and select the Middle Mountain from the Campaign Map. Jake enters this report: My Race: Lizardmen, Enemys Race: Dwarfs, Enemys Name: Elton, Win/Loss/Tie: Win, Side Youre Fighting For: Good, Key: 01. Elton logs on and enters this report: My Race: Dwarfs, Enemys Race: Lizardmen, Enemys Name: Jake, Win/Loss/Tie: Loss, Side Youre Fighting For: Evil, Key: 01.
Random Events: Each day a random event may occur in each of the contested sites. This is done randomly by the campaign computer. The occurrence of a random event will be indicated in the battle sites fluff wiki in the sites options page. Usually random events change the victory status of the forces of Good or Evil in that site. Carefully examining the sites for weaknesses caused by an event is an effective strategy for causing a breakthrough.
How to Use the Wiki: Each battle site has a fluff wiki which allows any user to start and modify the Additional User Added Fluff for that site. This is one of the innovations of this campaign which allows users to work cooperatively like wikipedia and other wikis to create a combined story for that battle site. The story can be based upon the results of the battles in that site, can contain links to threads in the forum where a user has created fluff or detailed battle reports or just about anything the combined users work out. This allows the users to design the campaign story as it unfolds, instead of just being statistics makers.
Add to wiki is selected to bring up the text box that allows users to add and modify the current text. All phpbb BBcode text modifications are useful here.
Restore wiki brings up the previous text allowing you to fix changes made to the current text by replacing it with a previous version. This allows one to rapidly repair vandalism or poor behaviour. Within the restore wiki page Revert to this fluff will replace the current text seen on the left with the text on the right. Step Back to More Previous Fluff allows you to check earlier text for possible use as replacement. Return to Battle Site allows you to return to the current battle site without changing the text.
Wiki Ettiquette: Changing the Additional User Added Fluff can be a fun and fulfilling process, if other people are respected. Arbitrarily destroying someone elses previous work will get you into trouble as anyone can see who did what to the text. That being said fixing someones grammar and spelling is generally appreciated.
Some possible suggestions for using the text box include writing a continuing story about that particular battle site using the statistics and results in the site as a basis for the story. Separating the story into daily or weekly chunks by using a date as a starting point is probably a good idea, for example:
June 2 The Dark Elves strike deep into the forces of good destroying war machines and making off with plunder. General Kalas forces in particular wreak havoc upon
June 1 The appearance of the High Elves under Lthorn bolster the thin ranks of the forces of Good. Moreover earlier that day folks of the forest kin surround
etc.
Links to battle reports, threads, elaborative long fluff stories etc. that would overwhelm the text area can also be placed within the text box. See instructions on BBCode for how to include links.
For example:
June 3 Increased activity by hordes of beastmen under the tribal leader FlatBuckethead (see this link for his background) enter the area, plundering the free people of Port Greystone and making off with the
That being said, its the first time that this has been done in a campaign. Hence there is no right or wrong way to use the text box. Time and experience will result in a generally accepted manner of use.
How to Use BBCode: BBCode allows you to modify text. Use the brackets with the appropriate command inside the brackets to perform your function. To end using the text modification use a slash inside the brackets followed by the command you wish to stop using. For example : a line [command]of[/command] text. Where command is either b for bold, i for italics, u for underline, and url for entering a link.
