Wednesday, Janurary 6th Entry #1: A Tribe Approaches
Today when I get home I should expect my newly purchased OK army to have been delivered. This Gnoblog shall cover the creation of my Angry Fist Tribe-themed OK army.
Ogre army resources as of prior to today: 1x Tyrant: assembled/primed 1x Irongut: assembled/primed 6x Bulls: assembled 30 or so Gnoblars
The models being delivered today should roughly equal 2250pts. My initial army goal is to build to 2500pts. I usually aim for around 2000pts to start, but I figured if I'm going Ogres, I need to go big.
I am currently finishing my Warriors of Chaos army for an IndyGT at the end of the month (Sooiepalooza) so I will more than likely not be building or painting many Ogres till early Feburary, but I wanted to go ahead and get my ideas and progress down in this Gnoblog. I will go ahead and address the theme, potential 1st 2500pt list, and reasons as to why I chose Ogres over a couple of other armies that I've been wanting to build for a while.
Theme: Angry Fist Tribe I liked the description of this tribe in the OK army book. My first (and probably still favorite) army is the Empire. Just something about being human is appealing to me (for whatever reason). After reading about them I began to think of a theme centered around more civilized Ogres.
Some of the ways that I plan on applying the theme are as follows: 1. More uniform appearances within the army. The units will have individual markings or paint schemes that are similar to an imperial scheme. 2. Clean weapons and armor. Nice shiny chainmail, plated armor, and weapons. None of that dirty, rusty stuff for my Ogres.
The List: Ive been reading the forum and getting some ideas as to what kind of list to run. Ive also been asking a friend of mine who has been playing Ogres since the day they came out. What Ive determined is that I have no idea what works until Ive actually played them. This list is pretty straight forward just lots of Ogres and little of anything else. I used to run some Leadbelchers as a DOW unit for my Empire, but I never had any luck with them so they are not going to be added until I can be proven wrong on the table top.
2500pts OK - The Angry Fist Tribe Burgut Kineater, the Ever Hungry (Tyrant) Heavy Armor, Luck Gnoblar *Sword of Might, Gut Maw, Fistful of Laurels, Kineater 311 >Basic Tyrant Model. Nothing fancy, will probably scatter some dragon bits on his base
Muddhann the Traveler (BSB Bruiser) Heavy Armor, Luck Gnoblar, Lookout Gnoblar *Skullplucker, Wyrdstone Necklace 219 >Converted Bull model.
Ashgut Smashfist (Bruiser) Ironfist, Heavy Armor, Luck Gnoblar *Greedy Fist, Goblar Thiefstone (x2) 199 >Converted Bull model. Will have an Ironfist on each hand and I will most likely greenstuff some scars and gashes on him to make him look a little more brutal than the other characters.
Ironmouth the Butcher (Butcher) 2x Tooth-Gnoblar *2x Dispel Scrolls 190 >Basic Butcher model. Since the Angry Fist are slight more civilized he will be a little cleaner looking than your typical butcher
Ironguts x4 Bellower, Standard Bearer w/ LO Gnoblar (Warbanner) 252
Ironguts x4 Bellower, Standard Bearer w/ LO Gnoblar 227
Ironguts x4 Bellower, Standard Bearer w/ LO Gnoblar 227
Bulls x3 Extra Handweapon, Bellower 127
Bulls x3 Extra Handweapon, Bellower 127
Bulls x3 Extra Handweapon, Bellower 127
Bulls x3 Extra Handweapon, Bellower 127
Gnoblar Trappers x9 54
Gnoblar Fighters x20 40
Maneaters x3 Each with Brace of Pistols and Heavy Armor 270
Total Points: 2497
Reason for Choosing Ogres: My previous armies include the Empire, High Elves, Dwarfs, and Warriors of Chaos. I needed something that was different. Chaos has some bite, but I needed something different. A couple of friends of mine have been playing Ogres for years and Ive always enjoyed games against them. Ive won some and probably lost more against them, but Ive always appreciated what Ogres are and thats in your face. I really like Gut Magic and once Ive played them for a while I will probably go to 3x Butchers, but for now Im going to run the Bruisers.
Ive also chosen Ogres because the models are fantastic and should be relatively quick to paint. After painting lots of Empire State Troops, Chaos Marauders, and High Elf Spearmen; Im ready for some large surfaces.
Where to from here? Well, my goal for my next Entry will be to develop a backstory for each character, to establish names for each unit, and to have pictures of what is already assembled and my big box of goodness from the Warstore that Im receiving. My Ultimate Goal is to have a 3000pt army fully painted, tested, and ready for this years Ard Boyz tourney and Sooiepalooze in 2011.
As always Comments and Suggestions are appreciated and I thank you in for taking the time to read my Gnoblog.
Sincerely, barlio

Entry 2: The Big dudes
Burgut Kineater, the Ever Hungry (Tyrant) - The Massive Leader of the Angry Fist Tribe is feared and respected by both his Ogre brethren and Imperial Allies. The name Kineater was gained many years ago when his brother Gorrgut had attempted to usurp the Leadership from their common father (and tribal leader). After Burgut learned of his brother's treachery he challenged his brother to the death. Burgut was blessed by Ironmouth the Butcher and easily defeated his brother. He then ritually consumed his former brother and was given the name by his father. Because of his son's treachery Burgut's father stepped down from his role as leader and handed it to Burgut. Burgut's father then gave himself to the Great Maw.
Since this time Burgut has built the Angry Fist tribe into a powerful Tribe with strong ties with the Empire and with other Tribes.
Muddhann the Traveler (BSB Bruiser) - A trusted friend of Burguts and personal Standard Bearer. Muddhann and Burgut grew up together in the tribe, but when Muddhann became of age he chose to see the world. He left the tribe to offer his services to the Empire as a Mercenary. When Muddhann grew tired of the flat plains of the Empire and Brettonia he returned to the tribe as a wealthy and learned individual (for an Ogre at least). Burgut realized that Muddhann could act as a liason to the Imperial army and has made the most of his relationship with him.
Ashgut Smashfist (Bruiser) - Ashgut is unique to the leadership of the Angry Fist tribe. Where Muddhann is relatively cultured and Burgut is a great leader, Ashgut is a solemn and prone to being curt. He makes up for his attitude with his loyalty and fierceness in battle. He wades into battle swinging his fists and spraying blood and gore in every direction. He is accompanied into battle by a pair of Gnoblars (Bittle and Barb), whom are renowned for their ability with an Imperial Handgun. *Ashgut will probably be the most heavily converted model in the army. I'm planning on moving the arms to where they will be stretched out to the sides or in the air. I'm going to greenstuff scars across his army and add armor plating to his shoulders. To cover up the gaps (or funky greenstuff areas around his armpits), I'm going to try to make a cloak for him. **Bittle and Barb will be a pair of converted Gnoblars which will be used to represent his Brace of Handguns. I'll probably use Gnoblar bodies and use Empire Handguns or Repeater Handguns from the Pistolier/Outrider box set.
Ironmouth (Butcher) - A long time Butcher of the Angry Fist tribe. When Ironmouth was a young whelp he was taken in by one of the tribe's butcher to be trained in the ways of the Great Maw (as is common for most tribes) and at the time was called Urrgah. The Butcher who raised him was preparing a Rhinox brought in by some of the tribes Bulls. The Rhinox appeared dead, but was just stunned. As Urrgah began to skin the Rhinox it woke up, goring Urrgah in the jaw and crushing his face. Using his bare hands Urrgah killed the Rhinox and then nearly passed out from the pain. The tribe's Butcher then healed Urrgah the best to his ability, unfortunately this included using an iron jaw from a bear trap as a replacement to part of his jaw. While being healed Urrgah said that he had a vision from the Great Maw and from this vision he learned that he should take the name Ironmouth. The newly named Ironmouth woke with a renewed sense of purpose and strength. He consumed the heart of the Rhinox and to this day has served the Angry Fist tribe loyally. *Using the Butcher model, but I'm going to use the Iron trap jaw face thing. I'm also going to convert him some sort of rack to represent a Skullmant.
Next Entry: I'm going to have some pictures and paint schemes worked out.

Entry 3: Super Glue High
Ok I've been assembling Ogres when I've got time and I'm not free to paint.
Assembled as of now: *15 Bulls with Extra Handweapons *One unit of 4 Ironguts with Mus and Std *30+ Gnoblars (I'm going to convert some Trappers out of the Irongut's Gnoblars) *4 Ironguts that are about half assembled *Tyrant *1 Fully assembled and primed Irongut
Not too much progress so far, but at this rate I should have the army at least assembled by late next week. Conversions of the Bruisers and Maneaters will be after that, but I at least want to have the "shoes" attached and heads on.
I've really enjoyed assembling the Ogres. The weapons and bits look fantastic and should be pretty easy to paint. I had added some Ogre bits to my Chaos Giant and I was really happy with how they turned out.
Painting Progress: I'm still not set on a paint scheme. I've considered a variety of primary colors (one unit of bulls with Green pants, another with blue, etc...), but I'm wondering if i should go ahead with one or two main colors and focus the army around that. I haven't completed a test model, but I'm planning on making their skin a medium grey. I have painted a unit of Leadbelchers before and I went with the flesh tone of a human, but I wanted these Ogres to be different from what I've painted before. I automatically think of blue when I think of greys so maybe there's something to that.
If anybody has any paint scheme suggestions they are greatly appreciated.
Army Composition: I probably shouldn't have posted a tentative roster earlier. Since I posted it I've changed it about 15 times and I feel that it will continue to change while I'm playtesting it. I found the Paradigm Ogres thread very interesting. It was a really good read and it made me consider the strengths and weaknesses of the OK.

Entry 4: Nearly assembled
Ok picture update time. At this point I nearly have everything assembled. I'm going to attempt to assemble the final pieces and paint the army by mid-March for a local tourney, but it's a long shot.
Since my last Entry I've assembled 2 more units of Ironguts, got the unit of Gnoblar Fighters and Trappers situated, assembled my Butcher (Mr. Ironmouth), converted 3 Maneaters (still need some detail work), and started the conversion work on the Tyrant, BSB, and additional Butcher and/or Bruiser. On the Tyrant I decided to give him the Tenderizer (I know shocking), but he was armed with two CCWs. I chopped the Gnoblar off the left arm, removed the weapons, and am in the process of making the Tenderizer and a nice trophy for his left arm.
The bottom 2 pics are of my Maneaters with Brace of Handguns. I used the standard Bull body and added the Pirate Gutplate with Pistols (Thanks Vince!!!). I also added a variety of shields from the IG and Giant box set. The one on the far left has Repeater Handguns from the Pistolier/Outrider box, the center one has a handgun from the 6th handgunners, and the last one has a back bandolier of pistols. The next three Maneaters will probably have Longswords.
The BSB and additional Butchers/Bruisers is an interesting subject. I considered just using the base bodies of the Bulls and slapping some extra GS and bits on them, but then I decided to go another route. I had converted some Dragon Ogres for my buddy Vince about a year ago. I had used the lower parts from the old Dragon Ogres and the upper bodies of Bulls. I kept the lower halves because I'm a miniatues packrat. I thought about what would happen if I used the lower half and just sculpted the upper body (with the addition of stock OK parts). Now you have to understand that I've never tackled a project of this extent (sculpting wise), so I was kind of freaking out about it.
It's kind of difficult to see, but i split the lower half (sorry boys) essentially down their pant's seam to the bottom of the gut-plate hole. I kept about a 1/4" between the 2 pieces and build a wire skeleton. I then covered the skeleton with GS and let it dry overnight.
After thinking it over yesterday I decided that I would finish the BSB and if time permitted I would go onto another Butcher. I spent about 2 hours sculpting and layering and this is where I stopped last night.
As you can see it's still pretty rough, but getting there. The squares on my cutting mat are 1"x1" so it appears that he is nearly 1/2" taller and wider at the shoulders. Tonight I'm going to finish his Moobies, smooth out the joints, and clean up some of the fat. I'm also going to probably start on the banner and get the additional pieces I'm going to add on. Wednesday night I'm going to sculpt the top of his pants (where they fold over his belt), and add on the extra bits and his sword. The sword is an IG Sword that I cleaned up some and shortened the handle.
Ideally my next Entry will have finish pics of the BSB, Tyrant, and assembled 2000pt army with roster and "idea" tactics. I'm looking to get a game in with them in a couple of weeks, but we'll see how that goes. I'm also really pumped about the rumors. If they are true and the Ogres are getting a 3rd Quarter release I'm going to be as excited as a school girl.

Entry 5: Revised List and Wishful Thinking Tactics
Ok so here is my tentative roster for the next tournament. I haven't play-tested it yet, but it's got lots of Ogres and that's a good thing. I'll probably run the Tyrant and Bruiser together with the Maneaters in a 2x2 Formation. Unless fighting a nasty Lord-build, I'll probably just challenge with the BSB so that he can heal himself.

Entry 6: Ogres in Black (OIB)
Ok as of now I have my 2000pt army based and primed. I was getting so excited about getting the army painted that I neglected to get a picture of the final GS work on my BSB and General. Oh well they are halfway completed so the final picture should speak for itself.
Conversions: The General - Using the Tyrant metal model, I created a Great Weapon for him (the Tenderizer) from the head of one of his weapons and connected it to the shafts of two standard poles. I removed the shoulder Gnoblar and replaced him with some Laurels. I replaced the right-hand weapon with an Ogre sword. I used the Gut Plate with the Sword in the sheath and added some holstered Handguns (for the BoH). I did a slight conversion on a Lookout Gnoblar. I added a pistol to one hand, added a Laurel to one shoulder, and added an armor plate to his pistol arm. He'll be placed behind the Tyrant facing the opposite direction (watching his back of course).
The BSB - from the GS picture in Entry 4 I beefed up his shoulders, gut, and moobies. I then added strips of corrugated board to act as straps for his armor. I then trimmed down some Ironfists and used the extended parts (that covers the wrists) to act as shoulder and chest plates. I then trimmed down and added a Beastmen banner to his back (looks kind of like a cape). I then made a simple banner. I used the basic Ogre banner (the cloth one) and added the IG standard on top of that. I thought about adding some more to it, but I liked how simple it appeared so I kept it. After putting him on his base he appears to be as tall as the Tyrant. I'm pretty happy with him and look forward to painting him up.
Other odds and ends: *Started painting the LO Gnoblar for the IGs, the Tyrant's Lucky Gnoblar, and the Butcher's Tooth Gnoblar. They are going to have a Shadow Grey skin tone and should look pretty good for a Gnoblar. *Created a movement tray for the Trappers. I used some foam-core, created an oval, cut out ten slots for the Gnoblars, and painted all of the exposed foam with paint. Tonight I'm going to cover with sand and add bits. I'm thinking I'll probably just add lots of Bear-traps from the sprues and add whatever random bits that would look good with them. *Reworked my list: Swapped out some gear on the characters, got rid of the unit of Gnoblar Fighters, and added a couple of Trappers. Also after some advice on using the Maneaters I've decided to not try the 2x2 formation.
I've decided that I'm going to be bringing these guys to a Tournament on March 20th. I've got a little over a month to get everything painted. I'm not too worried about is as my test model did not take too long to paint and it looked good afterwards. The basing is halfway done. I just need to slap some paint on it and pick out the bits that I attached before I primed it. Overall I'm really happy with how this army is progressing and I am looking forward to playing them soon.
barlio
Edit: My goal for the next Entry is to have a decent quality pictures of my finished test model and the army as a whole (as it is). I will also post my "finalized" 2000pt list and cover some deployment issues that I've been trying to deal with.

1999 of 2000pts
As of my Lunch break today I have the following painted: 1. Tyrant and his Luck Gnoblar. The Luck Gnoblar was painted to match, has a pistol in one hand, and a set of Laurels to match his Master. 2. All 3 units of Bulls. One unit has Blue pants, one unit has half-blue and half-red pants, and the third unit has 2 with red pants and 1 with blue pants. 3. Tooth Gnoblar and LO Gnoblar (for the Ironguts) are painted. Pretty happy with both. 4. Movement tray for Trappers 5. Bases and first skin coat on my first unit of Ironguts. I'm thinking about giving one unit of IGs Green pants, the second unit Snakebite Leather pants, and the last unit either dark brown or black pants. I'll just have to see how the Green turns out. I may paint all three units three different shades of green. I also need to start working on my movement bases this weekend. All of them are assembled I just need to sand them and prime them. I will then paint on them while waiting for other stuff to dry.
If all goes according to plan I will have the army ready by the 13th or 14th of March. I have a job interview this coming Monday so there is the potential of a career change on the horizon. If this happens then I will deal with it the best I can.
I have a 1500pt game scheduled for next Wednesday. It will be his second game of Fantasy ever and my first game with the Ogres so it will be a learning experience for us both. I'm looking forward to getting them on the board and smackin' some heads.
Hopefully will be back on Monday with some pics and a new job.
Thanks again for reading, barlio

Entry 7: Done
Ok my 2000pts of Ogres are finished. I finished gluing grass on the Gnoblars yesterday morning.
Somewhere I posted that my original goal was to have them finished by the 14th-15th. I was actually surprised to get them done right on time. Hopefully this week I will get in a practice game or two, but we'll see about that.
No pics yet of course. My painting area doubles as my photography location so maybe later today or this week.
I'm pretty pleased with how the army turned out. I wouldn't consider this my best painted army, but I think that it easily the quickest (and most enjoyable) army I have ever painted (5-6 weeks to paint near 2000pts, not too shabby). The Ogres skin tone was pretty simple, 2 shades of grey with a wash of Badab Black Wash and highlights with the lighter grey. The pants on the Bulls were red, blue, or red/blue. The Ironguts pants were green or a leather color. All of the Gut-plates were painted chainmail with a wash of Badab Black. In the future I may go back and paint icons onto the Plates, but for now they're going to be boring.
The standards are pretty plain, but that's ok for Ogres (no pun intended). I chose the Angry Fist symbol for my Battle Standard (see avatar) and a non-bloody fist (turned 45 degrees) for the lone Irongut standard.
The Gnoblar trappers have a Shadow Grey skintone and after painting two-tone coats on their clothing and accessories I washed the whole model in Devlan Mud. I went back and painted some highlights on the armor, teeth/claws, and bits. I'm really happy with the Trappers. The Devlan Mud on the grey/blue skin creates nice shading.
Again I'm happy with how they turned out though and looking forward to sharing pics with you.

barlio21 Mar 2010
Ok so the tournament was yesterday in at Metagames in Springfield, MO. I met a couple of the guys for a hearty breakfast at the Cracker Barrell. For some reason my nerves were wanting to take the best of me and I had a small breakfast. It's been a tradition of ours to eat there before tournaments (good luck most of the time).
After getting our armies unpacked and chatted it up for a few minutes we got underway. We had a smaller than expected turnout, but on the way home I realized that was probably a good thing. Round 1 I would be playing my buddy Vince and his Beastmen. Weve been talking about his Beastmen so I had an idea of what they could potentially bring. His list was kind of what I expected to see and was nicely painted. He had also created a new carrying tray/display board that also doubles as the Gates to Mordor. The Ghorgon he had converted was pretty sweet. It was based on the Giant model, but had extra arms and a Tuskgor head.
His list was basically the following: *Doombull General with item that allows him to Scout and he had Regen *Minotaur BSB *another Minotaur character *Slugtongue (sp) - I learned to hate this guy real quick Couple units of Gors Unit of Bestigors 3 units of hounds 1 Ghorgon
Now my plan was to use my Maneaters/BSB/Tyrant unit to take on the Ghorgon and Minotaur characters, the Bulls and Ironguts would tag team on units, and I would use the Trappers to harass the scouting Doombull. What actually happened was that the Trappers got killed by the Doombull, but they did keep him out of a good chunk of the game. Turn 2 I fled an IGs unit from the Ghorgon so I could set up the counter-charge of another unit. My IGs rolled double 6s on their rally check the next turn and fled off the board. As the game progressed I realized that having that one unit on the board most likely would have saved the day for me, but oh well. Turn 5 and 6 were pretty exciting. Turn 5 my lone surviving IGs unit (with the Butcher in it) were charged by the Minotaur BSB (because of his Frenzy). That magic phase he manages to dispel the Toothcracker on my lone IG unit and the Trollguts on my Maneater/Tyrant unit. That combat phase I lost one IG to his attacks then whiffed all of my attacks (if he hadnt dispelled my Toothcracker the unit most likely would have survived. I fail my break test and roll a 5 for flee. He rolls one dice because of his Bloodgreed (or whatever it is called) and gets a 5 (whomp-whaaaa).
Turn 6 the only charge he has is his Doombull into my Maneater unit. Vince is the kind of guy that wants the epic fight so he challenges my Tyrant. Now previous to this combat my Tyrant had killed two unit champions in challenges so he was up to 7 wounds (because of the Magic Gut-plate). The Doombull had one impact hit and like 7 attacks. He manages to cause 4 wounds. Now Im not worried a bit, Ive got a tenderizer caked with the brain matter of the Ghorgon, what could possibly happen? How about I miss 4 of my 5 attacks. I manage to wound, he fails his Regen save and I cause 2 wounds. Next turn he manages to cause 3 wounds. I roll for my Ward save and whiff all 3. He has killed my General and securing the game for a Solid Victory. If my Tyrant would have survived then Im pretty sure I would have killed him and the game would have went to a Draw.
Game 2: Alec and his Lizardmen. Alec is a new player to Fantasy, but Ive gamed with him since I started so I know his temperament and play style. I had helped him build his list for the tourney so I knew what to expect. This game had probably the most bizarre ending to a game that I have ever seen.
His Roster: *Slann Banehead (key to the games end), Cupped Hands of the Old Ones, Regen, extra casting dice thing, and immune to non-magical attacks (key to the finish). *Scar Vet Burning blades, maiming shield *Skink Priest Scroll, Cloak of Feathers. 2 units of Saurus Warriors 1 unit of skinks Unit of 5 Saurus Cav 18 Temple Guard Ancient Steggie
He rolls for spells and gets the Flaming Sword of Rhuin (along with his 3 other spells) Hes like great whats that going to do for me. He also nominates my Tyrant as the target of his Banehead. At the beginning of the game I rolled for my Wyrdstone necklace and rolled a one (so Im down to 4 wounds). The game was pretty typical, I charged forward, he blasted me with Fireballs, yada, yada, yada. Turn 4 I got my maneaters into his Templeguard. 3 combats later Ive whittled his unit down to the Slann only. That previous magic phase my Butcher miscasts and blows himself up. Ive now lost the last bit of magic I have. In Alecs Magic phase he manages to get off the Flamins Sword. In the combat phase I have only one character that can hurt the Slann (my Tyrant). Since Ive got a Great Weapon Im going last. He swings his Flaming Sword and hits both times, he then manages to wounds. I fail both of my Ward saves (even re-rolling one from my Luck Gnoblar). I say he loses two wounds and I start grabbing my dice to attack back. Alec then reminds me that he had selected the Tyrant as the target of his Banehead (which he had) and that the Tyrant has suffered 4 wounds (thus killing him). We just started busting up and I had to make an announcement about it. I mean really what are the odds that a Slann is going to kill a Tyrant in hth. After the shock wore off we finished out the combat. My last turn saw me failing 3 Rally checks and losing the game by a Massacre. It was a great game that I thought I had won. It will teach me to not be cocky.
I ended up with a bye Round 3 so I was just watching the other games. I ended the day 1-2, but not too bad for my first major outing with the Ogres.
Ok so this tournament was supposed to be an old fashioned Rogue Trader with nearly equal points for Battle, painting, and sports. Not a big deal, but weve been doing a lot of Ard Boyz style tourneys and the soft scores have been ignored of late. The TO got the tourney passed onto him at the last moment so you could tell that he wasnt too thrilled with the RTT points scoring, but he did his best to judge everthing. He announces the overall winner and it turns out to be me. Im like hows that possible, I lost two games (the best record was 1-0-2), but the TO said that because of the scoring weight on painting I had won best painted which gave me enough bonus points to push me into first. After a good laugh I not-so humbly accepted the award of $80 in Store credit (and technical bragging rights for the next two months).
I picked up grabbing a SM Predator to finish out my Salamanders army, and some WotR Uruk-hai. On the way home I found out that a wicked snow storm had hit our area. A typical 1-hour drive home turned into a nearly 2-hour, cheek-clinching ride. You also have to understand that yesterday we had 60-70 degree weather in my hometown.
Overall a great day with lots of weird twists and turns.
