3rd Annual Ogre Stronghold Hobby Hero Awards - It's Nomination Time

original thread ↗

A little later than last year, but awards season is upon us once again!

A year has passed since the 2nd Ogre Stronghold Hobby Hero Awards, which I am pleased to confirm were a big hit. Therefore, it is my esteemed honour to announce the commencement of the 3rd Annual Hobby Hero Awards!

Movies have the Oscars, music has the Grammies, and now wargamers have the Hobby Hero awards. This is the first in a series of threads which will see the best members in each category crowned Hobby Hero and given a Pet Gnoblar to reward them and thank them for all their hard work and devotion.

The awards are divided into categories. You have from today until 15th January 2010 to PM me with your nominations for each category. Everyone can only nominate one person for each category so please think carefully before sending the nomination PM. Once the deadline has passed, a short-list of nominees for each category will be posted and the members of the Stronghold can vote for who they want to be Hobby Heroes for 2009 (wherever possible, please include a link to a thread to support your nomination).

These awards are all for work, help and achievements from the 30th of November 2008 until now, so please bear that in mind when thinking of nominees and look back at the great year we've just had, not just the members who spring to mind from the last few weeks. We've had loads of new Gnoblogs and models posted this year, and updates and continuations of classic and favourite Gnoblogs from the past (all eligible). Please think about all these things and more when considering your nominations.

As an important note, the Stronghold Guard elected to stand aside from the Nominations this year. The only exception will be the Ogres Choice award which is seen as an 'open competition' of hobbyness. Any nominations for moderators for any other category will be disregarded so please don't waste your nomination!

Well I've prattled on for quite long enough now, let's get to the nominations:

Achievement in Painting in 2009
Achievement in Modelling in 2009
Achievement in Tactics and Strategy in 2009
Achievement in Storytelling in 2009
Most Helpful Member in 2009

Best Ogre model posted in 2009
Best other model posted in 2009
Best Ogre army posted/updated in 2009
Best other army posted/updated in 2009
Best Team/Fleet/Gang posted/updated in 2009
Best competition run in 2009

Best WFO/Stronghold Battles player in 2009

And finally:

The Ogres' Choice Award. This is a special award for someone who doesn't necessarily fit into one of the above categories, or who is so great they fall into many of them. This is your chance to get a member of the Stronghold rewarded for their hard work here.

I'll expand the categories with clarifications in the next few posts!

some clarifiaction of the categories:

Achievement in Painting in 2009
This can be a member who has consistently shown a great standard of work throughout the year maybe one who has come along leaps and bounds or even someone who has exhibited one, fantastic piece of miniature 'art'

Achievement in Modeling in 2009
As above, but for the modeling side of the hobby. Look at sculpting, converting or even a truly fantastic use of the standard models

Achievement in Tactics and Strategy in 2009
This can encompass armylists, strategies, advice on uses for units or magic item combos. Or even advice for how to defeat a specific enemy. Like the above categories, this can be a continuous achievement, a one off or a huge improvement over the year.

Achievment in Storytelling in 2009
Not all storytelling finds it's place in the Maw Pit Sagas forum. Check out peoples gnoblogs as well for great examples of narrative fiction and driving fluff behind infinitely creative and imaginative armies

Most Helpful Member in 2009
Exactly what it says on the tin. It's no secret that we have one of the most helpful and friendly member-bases on the net, so I expect this will be one of the most hotly contended categories. Who has been the most helpful to you, or have you seen being consistently helpful to other ogres around you?

Best WFO/Stronghold Battles player in 2009
This category is a catchall one for the huge amount of members who make use of the Stronghold Battles facilities on the website. You could nominate the player you think is tactically the best, or the most fun to play against! The most sporting, or the person who has contributed the most to that section of the website. This is a new category for 2008, so please make sure to specify why you are nominating the member you are.

For these categories especially, please make the time to include a link to the relevant post/thread to support your nomination

Best Ogre model posted in 2009
This is for painted models for an ogre kingdoms army. Gnoblars, yhettees and scrap launchers etc are all acceptable (remember it has to be posted between 30th November 2007 and now)). Equally classic ogre models (pre OK army book) and conversions/sculpts are all acceptable as long as they were posted within the timeframe.

Best other model posted in 2009
This is for painted models which come from any other army or game system. Non GW models are perfectly acceptable, as are other WFB models, 40K ones etc.

Best Ogre army posted/updated in 2009
This is for the best Ogre Kingdoms army posted or updated in 2008. The army didn't have to be started this year but must have had a model added or some update done to it during the course of 2008.

Best other army posted/updated in 2009
As above, but for other WFB armies, 40K armies and gangs/groups/armies from other games systems

Best Team/Fleet/Gang posted/updated in 2009
A new category this year, this is to reward smaller modelling projects which could not nescessarily be defined as an army, but are still a playable force. Things like Bloodbowl teams, Necromunda and Mordheim Gangs, Battle fleet Gothic fleets etc belong here.

Best competition run in 2009
We've had some great competitions run this year, some by the moderators, most by the great members of the stronghold. Remember this is a category for the competition itself, not the person who ran it (of course this will obviously have a big impact on who you nominate). This category not only includes painting competions, but also encompasses things like the WFO leagues and tournaments that have been organized.

The Ogres Choice Award
I can't really define or qualify this category. That’s down to you. Who do you think deserves recognition or reward? Think of this as the fellowship/lifetime achievement award of the Hobby Hero awards ;)

Thanks Corai

Just a quick note to say that as Randroid has only just become a Stronghold Guard at the very end of this year, he remains eligible for nomination in all categories.
just a reminder, the deadline is approaching (still just over a week to go) and I'm sure there are still people out there with nominations waiting to be sent

thanks
Corai

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.

And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.
