I have finished my Ogre army. Well, it's never finished, but I have painted everything and I wanted a new challenge. Something different. So I started a new army in a slow pace. I have painted the fisrt two units of my Daemons of Chaos army. This is my demony Gnoblog. I use two different methods. Method a: dipping. I use this for the large blocks of infantry. It's a pretty fast way of painting and it get's your figures up to a good playing level in painting. It looks good on the table.
Method b: The old school highlighting drybrushing and painting technique. I love to use this on hero, lords and single models. Makes them stand out even more then the standerd units. More love into them.
I have placed my first two units here: 1st is the Bloodletters, they are dipped. So pretty easily painted. Their tray is in the making. I costumized the guy on black stone to be a Herald of Khorne. So he can actually join the unit. GW only makes a mailorder Herald on a mount or you can get the herald at forgeworld with the bloodfirster Daemon Prince. Costing a shitload of money. I just bought two units of bloodletters and converted the guy. Cheaper en not that hard two do. I gave him an Ogre sword in the other hand. The arm is a trimmed down arm of the standard bearer. And I converted the champions head with th two skulls (also Ogre stuff) and put a Khorne sign on top as part of the metal horns. And I put him on the rock. Like I said....cheaper and easier.
Next up is skulltaker. Did my best on the paintjob ( not dipped) I put some extra skulls unde the pile he is standing on so he wouldn't be hunched over, but standing tall. Only modification I made. It's just a brilliant figure. I hope my paint job did him justice.
I have a unit of Slaanesh Daemonettes waiting. They will come next.
No Gut No Glory31 Dec 2009
I promised Daemonettes, and they are coming. (Almost done)
However today I want to talk about the GW moneyscam, well it's not really a scam. It's probably good business. but still. I'll just tell the story.
I decided to make pink horrors. Pink Horrors are in my opinion one of the best Core unites in Daemons. Being a multiple wound caster with 4+ ward save, effectively. So I wanted to get a unit of 20 of these guys. I went to the GW and found the guys. They are packed by 5 for 20 euro's. In the game you must at least field 10, and for their casting to be effective you have to have at least 20. This meant that I should get a core unit for 80 euro. Roughly 60-70 pounds. This pissed me off. No way I was going to pay that much for a unit. This is my idea off a scam. I know special units get this treatment as well. (I have also High Elves.) But Core? And even more. I can get 10 Bloodletters or Daemonettes for half of the price, less even. Weird business. Same goes for Nurgle's as well.
So I looked for an alternative. And I found one. I got twenty Ghouls from the VC. And I am converting them Heavily. Getting my Pink Horrors at just 1/3 of the cost. Beneath are the first ten Horrors:
khorne ogres31 Dec 2009
Great way to get around the price issues and the fact they are metal, and still have a great looking model! Good thinking!
I have a spacious box now Shame the leadbelchers use me for target practice.... But they'll never him me they're so bad, they've already blown themselves up!
No Gut No Glory03 Jan 2010
*Disclaimer: I am a shitty photographer. *
I promised daemonettes:
And I've finished the Pink Horrors of Tzeentch. They even got their own special movement tray, because I put them on the wrong bases. But Now they are as wide as they would be on their normal bases. All of them are created by me using bits from Ghouls, Daemonnettes and Ogre and a lot of greenstuff. They are ranked in evolution. At the back you have the blobs of ectoplasm in the middle, the not fully grown things and in the front, the grown stuff. (Well kinda, they are still horrors.)
And beneath is an oversight of the army I have made in the last month:
hope you like it.
No Gut No Glory03 Jan 2010
I worked out a list as well. (For my further endavours.) It's probably not a very good one, but it has the units I like.
20 x Bloodletters 20 x Pink Horrors of Tzeentch 20 x Deamonetts
1 x Lord of Change (Such a brilliant model) 1 x Skulltaker 1 x Herald of Khorne 1 x Herald of Tzeentch
6 x screamers (Or two units of three)
3 x Flamers of tzeentch
skraggy03 Jan 2010
Generally I'm not a fan of demon models but these look great! I especially am looking forward to your lord of change.

It's no Lord of Change, but it does a lot of magic as well. It's the herald of tzeentch on disk! I tried to get some better pictures. I hope you like the effort! His head is a Clanrat Skaven head. I tought the original head was to much Warriors of Chaos.
Flamers are underway!
No Gut No Glory19 Jan 2010
And here are the flamers! I did my best at blending on these. It's hard to take the pictures still, but I'm getting better. (This is secretly my mini-photography gnoblog as wel.) Tried loads of blending and some source lighting on the blue one. I got three more flamers coming, they all will be diffrent colours. I think that will represent tzeentch enough.
Belchfist Beastkiller21 Jan 2010
i love the conversion of the ghouls to horrors but I'm not sure of the paint scheme. Due to the drab pinks you've chosen and the nature of the ghoul models, they look a bit Burgley to my eye....but that's just one point...I really think it's a great way of getting around the ridiculous price of a unit of horrors nowadays!

What does Burgley mean?
I wasn't sure about the paint scheme either, but for now I'm sticking with it. Maybe I'll give them a proper pink scheme later on.
For completeness I'll post a pic of my beasts of Nurgle here, which I'm also going to use a "swamp" ogres. But it's this army that sparked the start of them:
Highly converted again. Also to drop buildingcosts. And it's real fun to build stguff out of greenstuff while Pink Floydd is on the radio. Almost Zen-like

You Sir, are a legend! Your Horrors are inspired, and the fact that they are so... chaotic, and mid-transformation is just pure hobby gold Keep up the good work, and you will have a DoC to be proud of

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.
And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.

Thank you, Sir This will keep me going for some time

I find green stuff very rigid en oncontrolable. I use milliput. It's softer en less sticky when you mix it and it's harder when it's cured.
Plastikman23 Feb 2010
very nice work with the greenstuff indeed!! simply brilliant!
Plastikman23 Feb 2010
er... i meant to say milliput of course. the brilliant part I got right the first time though

thank you.
Well, here's a change. I got some Orcs and Goblins done. I sold my high elves, because they were boring and I went back to monstrous horde armies. So, Orcs and Goblins are gonna be my next army to paint. But this time I wanted them to have an awesome paintjob at the best of my capabilities.
First step was choosing a theme. That's gonna be Lava Orcs and Goblins. The Black Fire Tribe. Apparently there is a mountain in the warhammer world called Black Fire mountain. Well my guys are from those caves there. Where the lava flows en you have to be a "real tuff guy" to survive.
Second step was figuring out how I would make this apparent on the figures, without me being bored out of my skull because I have to paint the same thing over and over again. I think I kinda worked it out with the two models here. Ideas that I have: Fanatics are gonna hurl big lava blocks instead of the normal balls, same goes for the rock lobber. Orc boys will have painted their own flames on their clothes. All goblins are gonna be night goblins, with flames on their hats. For the black Orcs and the spider rider you just have to scroll down.
third step was bases. I have found these cool casted bases with rocks, so the orcs can stand on the rocks while the lava flows under them. Again in the picture down here. This allows me to really practise my lighting paint skills, which I find that have worked well on the black orc.
skraggy24 Feb 2010
You thought of some impressive ways to get the lava theme everywhere, can't wait to see more O and G

drear24 Feb 2010
these are really well painted ^^ i especially love the patterns on the shoulder. how are you doing the bases? is it greenstuff or cork or?
No Gut No Glory25 Feb 2010
I actually bought them. They are cast by a dutch company. I think. there's no real company name on the label. They are real cheap and work the part.
No Gut No Glory26 Feb 2010
Well, I finished the Black Orcs today and finished 5 of the 10 Skull pass Spider riders, which I got of a friend. Pictures down here. I am really happy with how this army is turning out.
10 Black Orcs in formation
5 spider riders with one dumb goblin riding the wrong way around.
Hope you like them!
skraggy26 Feb 2010
Looking great, love those bases. I think the black orc drum could use some detail. Also is that goblin glued on backwards or just sitting that way haha?

I'm still thinking of what to do with the drum. Till I have a funny idea, I'm gonna leave it bland. I got it glued the wrong way around and I couldn't peal it off. I got the models of a friend who glued them together. His girlfriend is really arachnafobic, so she couldn't bear the things.
No Gut No Glory27 Feb 2010
I did a few fanatics for the Lava Orcs
No Gut No Glory27 Feb 2010
I'm going for three posts in a row!
Here's a WIP for the Black Orc Big Boss. Some minor convertiens/converciens (dammit, how do you spell it?)....I converted stuff. I also made a special base for him. Some rocks above lava!
skraggy28 Feb 2010
Very cool but isn't he only supposed to be on a 25mm base?

Yep, that's why you can take him off. The 25 mm is imbedded in the thing.

Whilst I lament the lack of DoC, the painting on these goes some way to make up for it The shoulder pad patterns are particularly awesome

I LOVE those Nurglesque Ogres you made i think they are totally genius and inspired work to say the least. Liking the lava effect also on the orc stuff, and the wyvern is looking great so keep it coming good man!

another Swamp Ogre. It's a Leadbelcher! He's made out of a normal bull. The cannon is a sawed of pen, with greenstuff shaped like it's a log
Belchfist Beastkiller09 Mar 2010
looks great - liking the cannon made of wood idea.
The warped way your swamp ogres seem to come to life is great.
Do you use greenstuff? The amount you use it must prove quite expensive if you're buying it from GW...

My flaming Orcs have just gotten a draw against Tomb Kings. Fun game, I thank my dispelling the Casket of souls for three turns. That helped
No Gut No Glory12 Mar 2010
I miscounted. My Orcs have a minor victory! Hooray and stuff...
Long live goblins! Long live fanatics. Long live the Black Orc Warboss on Wyvern!
they won me the game. Black Orcs almost did nothing due to bad deployment.
9 fanatics on the table is insane! Bang! Bang! Flying tomb guard everywhere.
Black Orc warboss on Wyvern broke down the casket of souls and the screaming skull catapult.
The giant had an epic fail on his break test, but the n.goblins, he ran through, held. I recommend groups of 25 Night Goblins as fanatic delivery units. They can get shot, it doesn't matter. With that size and the occaisional save the will hold till you need them
So far my mini, and real scatterbrained, battle report.
Belchfist Beastkiller14 Mar 2010
Sounds like a fun, mad game!
O&G are always fun to play against because of that unpredictablitly
What was so bad about the deployment of the Black Orcs? Rendered ineffective by your opponent's deployment, or just ran out of space?

One unit wasn't even near something that it could get it's points worth of. Killed ten archers and that was it.
The Other unit could be charged in the rear by the Tomb Scorpion and I had to turn it around. After the scorpion got walloped by the fanatics, the black Orcs were just standing there. Claiming a table quarter. Combined these units cost 640 points or so, but they only got 170 point of stuff.
Belchfist Beastkiller14 Mar 2010
Ouch - well used tomb scorpion then by your opponent!
But a lesson learnt I assume, for yourself. This is what it's all about!
