Skig's Gnoblog (New Pics)

original thread ↗

Hello. It's not likely, but some of you could possibly remember this thread from about a month ago when I started it, said I would soon post some pics and then didn't (again this is very unlikely). Well unfortunately I still have no pics to show you, however I have re-thought my army background and made a start on my models. So, here is the background so far.

The tribe of Skig the Caravan Crusher is not like other ogre tribes. It is not that they don't share the love of eating and killing the other tribes have, it's just that they have a Gnoblar like fondness for all things shiny. This unusual quality dates back to the founder of the tribe, Gem-Eye the Tyrant. Ogre legend has it that Gem-Eye was visited in a dream by the great maw and told to gather gems. No ogre has ever stopped to consider the fact that gems would be of no use to a god of hunger and so the legend lives on, however there is another less flawed legend. The Gnoblar's of the tribe whisper that Gem-Eye was not an ogre at all, but in fact a Gnoblar that happened upon a powerful magic staff and used it to take over the body of the first ogre he saw, as luck would have it this ogre was very large and so a tyrant was born. The Gnoblars cunning combined with the ogre's brute strength made a powerful combination and soon Gem-Eye was Tyrant of a sizable tribe. Of course the ogre's of the tribe have no time for such nonsense, and many a Gnoblar has been eaten for mentioning this alternative legend. Whatever the truth about Gem-Eye is though, the fact remains that his tribe has inherited his love of anything with a reflective surface on it somewhere. As a result their armor is shiny and well maintained, there belts are adorned with stolen jewelry, and the Gnoblars of the tribe, being deprived of the shiny things they crave, are far from happy.

Skig's tribe live by raiding caravans, they have been known to accept work as caravan guards as well, however they always turn on there employers within a few days.

I will hopefully get some WIP pics up tomorrow.
I am having abit of trouble deciding on an army list. I gather that ogres are pretty hard to play, and since I am pretty in experienced I could use some help. I plan to buy at least a few of each kind of unit so in the end I could be fielding anything. However at the moment I have:

12 Bulls (2 of which i will probably make into butchers)
4 Ironguts
3 Lead Belchers
44 Gnoblar Fighters
1 Tyrant
1 Butcher

I can pretty much field all of this in a 2000 point army so choosing units isn't to hard but I am having problems kitting out my characters. At the moment, since my main opponents will be Dwarves, Lizardmen and O&G's I am thinking of giving my tyrant the Siegbreaker but beyond that I don't really have any idea what to do.

Can anyone help me out?

Thanks in advance, Skig.
Here we go, pics as promised.

These are my first unit of bulls (only 5 because I have made one into a butcher). They are obviously still a WIP but I'm fairly please with them.

My plan is to attach some gems etc... to them later to represent there fluff background, I also thought that the bright colored trousers fitted well with the army fluff.

By the way i would be especially interested to know what you think of the unit leaders stripy trousers as I am thinking of doing something similar for my other unit leaders and the Ironguts.
The army fluff sounds really nice, and as you said its really something different, i like it,,
cant wait to see some finished units and characters :D
Check here http://www.ogrestronghold.com/forum/index.php?topic=14984.0 for the progress on my viking themed ogre army
Finally I have got round to doing an update!

As you can probably tell by checking the post dates in this gnoblog I am a damn slow painter, however I am fairly pleased with my tyrant so far. Anyway here are some pics, the bulls are finished but the tyrant is still a WIP.

The Green stuffed model is my second kit bash butcher.
