Restarting skaven [Update Nov 24, Abomination, furnace, censer concept]

original thread ↗

Once upon a time I started warhammer. The army was skaven and it took me quite a while to paint those 200+ models..and the quality was so-so.

Then I switched to ogres as you might have seen here: http://www.ogrestronghold.com/forum/index.php?topic=2964.0

After a bit of a hiatus I decided to start warhammer again and I found out the new skaven book was about to be released so I dusted of the old models. I'll use these as a base for the new army and just add a bunch of the new and exciting stuff.

Here is a hitload of pictures of the units I already have:

Characters

Warlord/Chieftain w/ HW+ shield

Warlord/Chieftain w/ GW

Plague priest

The twins

Chieftain BSB

Assassin

Core

Large clanrat unit (30)

Clanrats (25)

Clanrats (25)

Ratling and two warpfire throwers

Slaves (20*3)

Giant rats

Rat swarms

Nightrunners

Special

Plague monks

Jezzails

Gutter runners

Rare

Plague cencer bearers

After spending some time reading rumors about the new book I really liked the idea of new weapon teams and decided to build a things-shredder (if that is what it's called) and a poison wind mortar.

Not glued together yet and still very much wip. Feels like something is missing though, any ideas?

I think you deserve 1 pet gnoblar for your hard conversion work.. enjoy!
Thanks for that!

And here is the next weapon team, a Warpstone Grinder.

i still haven't read the rules but rumor has it you can buy a warpstone grinder as a weapon team to make gutter runners tunnel. I really do hope the grinder emerges on the other side and get to fight as well. Otherwise I could just use this model as a Doom flayer.

What do you think?

Very nice! looks pretty neat! would be cool to see that one in play! grinding some pansies :)
Having already seen it live, I love it, and I just know I will be learning to hate it on the battlefield..
Looks suitably Skaven, the unholy combination of high tech (the grinding mechanism) with shoddy engineering (a barrel?).

Keep up the good work.

This is Livalil. He is the little devil on my shoulder.

This is Edward the Vampire Gnoblar. He is the king of epic fail.

So I got this idea for an abomination that I wanted to try out.. and yes I know what it looks like, shut up :)

I imagine it as a kind of slug creature slithering along on the rocks, with an upper body resembling that of a rat ogre but more... brutal.

A wire beginning.

Ehm, yes, it looks like plastic vagina. With a tail.

Dry fitting a gorger upper body after some baking.

The...opening will be filled with lots and lots of spiky teeth.
The rest of the body will be getting some warpstony spikes and I'm currently modeling a suitably ratty head based on the original gorger one.

It is still very much just a concept and I'm not entirely sure it works as an abomination... what do you think?

Aww... I wanted to mention the similarity between it and everyone's favourite intergalatic slug-ruler...

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.

And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.
Dammit JJ! Get out of my head! Stay in your own internetz! :P

Sorry for the lack of updates, but here is something at least...

Did a bit more work on the Abomination, far from done but at least it's starting to get somewhere.

I also bought and assembled a Plague Furnace. Damn that model is well made, and huge!
Yes those are 5th/early 6th metal plague monks, that unit weights a lot. I will fill it out with some new plastic ones to get it up to 27. I will be running it 6 wide and 7 deep because I think it looks better than 5 wide 8 deep.

This is more a proof of concept but i want to hear your honest opinion.
The thing is I really don't like te current plague cencer beares. I have 7 of the 5th/early 6th version and that is good for one unit but i want two. So I'm considering converting some from the plastic plague monks using Marauder flails. Of course I will cut down the heavily muscular armes a bit and cover the in apropriate pus and torn robes but do you think the concept works? The head will also be covered with the arms so that's why I choose one of the uncovered ones.

That's all for now, got some wierd ideas for more Poison wind mortars I want to try out so that will probably be next.
Winter Born
I think it works alright. You probably don't have to cut down the arms much if you sculpt the robes to have sleeves along the arms to cover them.

I think your HPA needs more rat ogre bits on it.
