Army price tags :P

original thread ↗

so i was thinking, why not make list of all armies in order of how expensive they are to make a good 2k list.
(this is usefull for new players and people looking to starting a new army, like me XD)
So Ogres are most likely the cheapest.....

Clever idea... Erm, I'd say that Skaven are quite expensive; what with being cheap in points cost, but expensive in financial terms... In fact, that tends to be a theme with GW. The more cheap the models' points cost, the more expensive the army will be to buy :/

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.

And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.
yea, just so you know, im looking only to financial ;) but yea lets just make a list in order of 1 to 15 :P
I know you was dude. And I was pointing out that all horde armies (but most notably skaven) will take all of the top spots... So, in at #15, Ogre Kingdoms, yes? :)

Don't jump to that conclusion too quickly - after all, a lot of our best support units are chunky metal models (I've been having fun assembling a gorger today - grrr!), not to mention the characters. I'm thinking O&G and Empire could take top slot despite being hordey.

Gutlord Inquisitor: FORUM FIGHT! Me, I'm betting on the stronghold. Sure, they're outnumbered with thick skulls, stubborn bull-headedness and an inflated sense of self-worth, but hey, they're Ogres.
Not a chance on O&G... *cough* Azhag *cough*... Or, wyvern Warboss... I dunno... Empire you might have a point on though.

Are we talking about the cost of an army, or the cost of buying everything for that race? If it's the former, don't forget that O&G have a plastic kit for their charcters, like Empire.

True, but we are talking about a 2,000pt army, and a competitive one at that... Therefore, a wyvern is a must tbh. And, that, doesn't come in plastic...

I'd pretty much stick my neck out there and say the cheapest is either Ogres, or an all Cav WoC army.....you can do either for pretty damn cheap, probably the WoC cheapest if you are buying the correct models, Ogres if you fancy doing a bit of Greenstuffing.

You can't be old and wise, and have youthful memory... even if you are FF

Achievements 39/101

Latest: 9. Sigh! - lose more than 3 ogres to any one casting of a spell that involved you taking an initiative test as part of it's resolution

OK with a little character conversion is cheapest by far.

Other then that it's hard to say, you can have so many different sorts of armies...

im talking avarages here ;) and including conversion work, i made 2k with 2 OK batallions and bit of greenstuff ;)
Well a DE dragon, dual hydra, BG list runs about $300-350.  A walter, dual stank army runs about the same.  A lizzie army fits in there too, just get 2 stegs, some temple guard, a slann, a box of skinks and battalion box.  A dwarf gunline comes in at this price as well just get 2 battalion boxs and your extra warmachines.

HE are on the high on at around $500-650, mostly due to DP's and sword masters.  VC can be pretty high if you plan on raising a lot.  The blood knights are also outragous in price.

well that is all i got right now it is late

p.s. all those prices are in american
dragon princes and blood knights can be be converted for MUCH cheaper.  The HE & VC players convert from silver helms and knights of chaos respectively.

A kitted out demon army could be pretty expensive for the horrors, flamers, and characters, but fleshhounds could be made from warhounds or something.
If you want to structure this, you need to do the following:
- for every army find a few (1-3) lists which are fairly common.
- the price for that army in real models (only conversions if the model or unit doesn't exist in boxes)
- alternative conversions for "expensive" units to make the total army cheaper.

The first point can also be changed to cheapest army within the armylist, but that's not necessary a very good list.

Now all we need is the 7th edition rule that said if the models are killed they don't get to fight and we WOULD be a broken army! lol

Ogre achievements: 41/101
Just want to mention that Daemons can be pretty cheap... Flamers for example have an extremely good point:cash ratio.

okay so following lexy, lets get us some lists going for each race. (i have zero WHFB experience) help much appreciated :)
well armies i find quite cheap to get going if you buy used models

dwarfs (very easy to find your core of used skull pass models my dwarf army is 2250pts and cost about the retail cost of a battalion from GW)
ogres (battalions + conversions = done)
WoC (battalion is a decent buy and their elite units are expensive points wise so their rather cheap)
bretonians (buy up old starter ed models)
Chaos Dwarfs are suprisingly cheap considering they don't actually have any current models. They can use more than half the stuff you get in Skull Pass - slap on a dwarfen battalion and yer not far off.
