Dogs of war in Ogre Kingdom armies ??

original thread ↗

Hi there! I'm new to te forum, but i have been reading a lot in here and have learnt quite a bit on how to play my ogres. I have yet to advance over 1000 points, but i'm still have loads of fun with the big guys :)

I have read the intire Paradigm Shift topic (287 posts is qiute a lot i might add), and the topic is great. It's really making my mind twist on how to expand my army. I would like have a around 3000 points when i'm done :D Anyway!

What i was thingking was weather or not the DOW could have anything to say in the OK armie. I can't really consider them as i have no idea what they can do, or witch units can be recuited to the armie, but i was just woundering what this option might bring to the armie. I would like to see what you expirienced Ogre Tyrants had to say on the subject. Without knowing I think it could give the OK armie a push in an other (hopefully) better direction.

Also if anyone of you could link me some rules on the dogs of war rules, it would be great!  :D

Cheers Brunt
Welcome to the Stronghold!

I've always thought that skirmishers (Vespero's Vendetta, Menghil's Manflayers etc.) and light cavalry (can't remember any names right now) would likely make an excellent addition to any OK army. Duellists in particular are around 5 points (no more than 6 I think) and almost completely outclass trappers. What's more, due to the mercenary nature of the ogres any DoW would fit in quite nicely fluff-wise.

There are a few drawbacks though. GW are discontinuing DoW, so you'll only be able to use 'em for another year or two before the new OK book comes out. Also, there's fierce competition for the rare slots already, so you might struggle to fit 'em into a list. Finally, all the DoW models are metal, so unless you convert some Empire or Bretts, you'll likely end up with empty pockets.

I don't suffer from mental instability. In fact, I enjoy it immensely.

Gutlord Inquisitor: FORUM FIGHT! Me, I'm betting on the stronghold. Sure, they're outnumbered with thick skulls, stubborn bull-headedness and an inflated sense of self-worth, but hey, they're Ogres.
A lot of events don't allow DoW either... it is a sad day for them  :gcry:

I think DoW add a lot to any army, not just OK. They allow you to cover the weaknesses of your army, and fill any gaps your army might have. However, like others have said, GW are doing away with the poor souls. If you play tournies and GW stores, this will affect you massively. If you play lots of friendlies, then this shouldn't dissuade you from collecting DoW, and fielding them with your OK's :)

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.

And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.
Yeah you're probaly right about the fact that they are not allowed by GW, but just thougt that since thay where in their army book you could acually use them without hearing for it. But i do play friendly games aswell, so i might proxi some in those, to see how they work :D

@Eg-Giant: i think you are quite rigth about the skirmish unit. Ifthey can acually fight a bit, they will really outdo the trappers. The one trapper unit you have, ofent tend to scout somewhere to marchblock, and ten do almost nothing the rest of the game. It would be nice to have something protecting agiant flyers, other then LB :)

@JJ: Thank you for the link, I'll check it out :)
