I just want to share my largest pet peeve with grammar that I see online a lot. Feel free to add your own.
Then vs. Than
Then = time/cause. This then that. One after another. He was a boy then he was a girl. No idea how it happened.
Than = comparing. The Gorger is cooler than the Lead Belcher. Though that doesn't matter because the Hunter is the coolest. Quicker than. Faster than. Older than. More bleached than. If it has a comparative modal then it is spelled than.
Just a pet peeve. I won't bite your head off if I see the mistake in the forums. You should know that I might judge you a little bit. I love to nail people who are judgmental but make mistakes in their own posts.
I'm not a Tyrant. I'm a lone Hunter.

Pet peeve? When people double space, especially at the beginning of sentences.
Saying that, my biggest pet peeve is when people excessively use "leet" speak, and acronyms...

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.
And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.

My only pet peeve is pretty simple - not using capital letters and dots at appropriate spots. I don't mind the grammatical mistakes and spelling as I understand that some people don't speak English from when they're born (me included) but posts with no capital letters...I don't know, it just makes me not want to read them.

Smilies. Why does everybody wants smilies in their posts. Especially annoying when they do it all the time (insert wink smiley here, because a real one would be inappropriate.
Seriously: my English isn't great, neither is other's, so not trying proper English with the excuse of wanted to post fast or not finding it necessary to check their post. So everything in English slang, text and leet speak is annoying to me.

A "pet peeve" is an understated annoyance. For example, mine would be when JJ makes a comment about my warpstone medication. That's underhanded, even by Skaven standards.
No, my real pet peeve is the same as Lexy's: excessive smilies and "leet" speak. I'm alright with the occasional and BRB, but using them instead of English as a language makes want to kill baby bunny rabbits. Ya, I hate it that much.

I really dislike people who don´t use interpunction-dots, comas, and capital letters at the beginning of sentences, exactly like Patjuliak said.
And I also hate people who write only in capitals.
And thirdly, I get really annoyed by people who cannot speak English the slightest. I mean, I understand typos, some minor faults and grammar mistakes, but when a 12 year non-native speaker only knows three to four phrases and then pops in and writes things like "We has be" and stuff like that, it´s just annoying.

No commas and punctuation, or at the wrong places bugs the hell out of me, same with 1337 speak and other SMS language if I can call it that. Grow up and spell the damn thing out, please!

Well.. Im not an native english speaker, but my main point is to make everyone understand what im trying to say. I dont use 1337speak so much anymore, but i try to explain everything in the way that everyone understands it. But dont you guys use a form of 1337speak yourself?.. like saying MSU,TBH,IIRC,IRL,ATM, or that kinda stuff.. I use these small versions of words myslef, but when reading peoples annoyance of 1337 speak it makes me think.. isnt 1337 speak more than just 7YP1NG L13K D15?
Please someone explain!
Patuljak30 Sep 2009
Nope, things like MSU or TBH are abbreviatons - shorter versions of a whole term that is otherwise too long and annoying to write out as a whole. Leet speak is just a supposedly cool, but in reality annoying way of talking with no practical purpose.
Don't take it the wrong way, the point of us having such an attitude towards proper internet communication is not because we are uptight - it's just that it's much easier and a greater pleasure to read a well structured and written post.
Every man dies. Not every man truly lives.
Barney30 Sep 2009
exactly. Plus, it says much about the poster- if he writes like a git, he´ll probably be one.
Because you cannot see a person through internet, it´s the quality (and not just the content, but also the formal side of things) of posts through which you can judge the person.

Hmm... If you put it that way i must seem like a real asshole.. How could i improve my writing? Is there need?
Patuljak30 Sep 2009
Don't worry, it's the thought that counts. I don't want to sound or be patronizing but you've improved much since you first came here so as long as you try your best to write coherently it's ok as far as I'm concerned.
