Deploy roll:
Result of the throw of dice "1d6" :

3 = 3
You start.

Ok then here we go...  I wanted to try a non-conventional VC list both for fun factor and learning purposes. The above is what I came up with. It has full Vamps I know but, at the same time isn't
overpowering magic-wise. With only the Lord being able to do anything worthwhile.

The basic plan with this list is to create a super tar-pit of zombies somewhere to hold the enemy up.
Meanwhile my hammers crush whatever they are facing, then come save the zombies. My Lord is basicly a 3+ Nehek spammer on everything, depending on what he gets for spells since I won't know them all.
Last Man Standing II, Master of Death - Demitri von Carstein
IGs

I have 4 units of IGs to deploy, so this is an easy first deploy. Neither deciding or revealing anything about my plan. In general on deployment: The side with the river is dangerous territory for me due to Velcrofaces many flying and etheral units. With a bit of luck I can use the wood to my advantage.The two sides being nearly identical I have little reason for picking one side over the other, but I went with the one I picked since I think the forest have a better chance of being to my advantage rather than disadvantage when it is a little more close to me. On the other side I would have had the option of deploying a small unit on the other side of the river, but I think it unlikely I would have done so either way.

On terrain: River is difficult where it is light blue and impassible where it is dark? brown is normal hills, grey is difficult hills. Green is wood.
?

River is difficult where it is light blue and impassible where it is dark? brown is normal hills, grey is difficult hills. Green is wood.?
Sounds fine.

As Zombies are the core of this army and the cheapest unit they are a good choice for first drop.
Also, I have a plan in mind for my placement in this fight that won't change to much no matter what.

Last Man Standing II, Master of Death - Demitri von Carstein
Gnoblars

Another deploy that leaves all options open. They are deployed a little back so a unit can deploy in front of them should I need it, and more or less on the middle on the board so they are likely to benefit from the generals leadership.

Fel Bats are super mobile so if I need to I can redeploy them without much trouble.
Last Man Standing II, Master of Death - Demitri von Carstein
Bulls

Again in a position where they are likely to have the generals LD.
I was glad to see the bats deployed near the woods instead of the river. Forests can be a bane to flyers, while they would have had total control of the river. I might be taking my mouth full but I think Velroface might have made a mistake.

If I did make a mistake I can only work with it and promise it will not be the last.
I learn more from mistakes than from success so it's all good.
With such a small area of open ground Erik will be hampered in his fighting space...I think.
So everything is still going to plan.
Last Man Standing II, Master of Death - Demitri von Carstein
Leedbelchers

Deployed so they'll be able to fire at the bats should they fly over it in diagonal line (the only way they will be able to cross it in turn 1, since they can't end their fly move within the woods.) LEaving a blank space so I can deploy whatever I like in between them and the bulls

Just more zombies now as I want to see what Erik is going to do before I set my harder stuff.
Last Man Standing II, Master of Death - Demitri von Carstein
Rhinox

Placing this now to give Velroface something to think about, and this placement is quite safe no matter how the rest of the units are deployed. With 3 zombie units down I am quite sure where the grave guards will go, I still have no idea about the nasty unit of etherals, however.

Grave Guard are one of the nastiest units in the VC army and I'm looking forward to seeing them in action. And where could those ghosties go?
Last Man Standing II, Master of Death - Demitri von Carstein
More LBs

Deployed so they can protect the rear of my units should his bats (or more importantly Lord) make their way up behind my lines.

Vargulf down here because it's in my battle plan. Since I have next to no experience with VC (and not much more with Warhammer period) it won't change much because I have no idea what I'm doing. :D
Last Man Standing II, Master of Death - Demitri von Carstein
More IGs

Not an ideal spot, but from here they should be able to help wherever it is needed. As Velrface states I'm a bit limited because of the rather narrow battlefield.
Despite my opponents claim that he doesn't know what he is doing he does a god job putting the Vargulf next to the forest, as it, due to its terror, makes it a very dangerous spot for my trappers. I am now very anxious to see where his etherals are going, sadly I, most likely, will have to decide in which of the 2 open spots I want to put my warbanner IGs in before I see them.

Oh and Warghulfs always scare the shit out of me.

Before I do my last few drops I'm rolling for spells.

Lord knows 4:
Result of the throw of dice "4d6" :

6 + 5 + 2 + 4 = 17
That gives him Invocation of Nehek, Vanhels, Curse of Years, Wind of Undeath, and Summon Undead Horde. I would have liked a Gaze in there but oh well right.  :P

BSB knows 1:
Result of the throw of dice "1d6" :

6 = 6
Ill swap that for #1 which gives him Invocation of Nehek and Raise Dead.

Flying Vamp:
Result of the throw of dice "1d6" :

3 = 3
I'll keep that. Invocation of Nehek and Gaze of Nagash

Ghostie Vamp:
Result of the throw of dice "1d6" :

6 = 6
I'll swap that. (never get it off with 2 dice) Invocation of Nehek and Raise Dead.

Black Knights should make for an excellent flanking unit for my outside zombies once an enemy is locked in combat with their flank "protected" by the river hehe. And who knows, maybe more?.....
Last Man Standing II, Master of Death - Demitri von Carstein
More IGs

And so I've made a decision, sort of (I could still deploy my main unit near the river or deploy my characters in a unit without the standard) I'm not really sure why but it was one or the other. Blackknights make zombiekilling near the river flank very little tempting.

Wraiths on the other side of the line just cause I feel like it. Once again, if I don't know it's a mistake
it doesn't really feel like one. And with VC, mistakes can be forgiven better than most armies.
Last Man Standing II, Master of Death - Demitri von Carstein
IGs with banner

My last regular unit. Not at all sure if I'm satisfied with this deployment but it is how it is. The etherals go were I expected them, and it is a good placement by V. Unlike flyers, etherals thrive in woods, and in particular shooting etherals that don't need los do.

Lord is red/white skull, Ghostie is with his ghost buddies, BSB on horse with GG, Flyer behind Knights.

These Vampires are the reason I made this army. I wasn't seeing much variety with other VC armies and I wanted to do some weird choices to spice my own and others ideas. I'm looking forward to seeing these guys in action.

By the way I would like to swap my Flyers armor for Flayed Hauberk. They both cost the same but as you have no shooting the one I have now is useless. (Leadbeltchers don't roll to hit.) If I must keep what I bought so be it.

He is taking a Greatweapon with his power Avatar of Death.
Last Man Standing II, Master of Death - Demitri von Carstein
Forgot my roll for turn order:
Result of the throw of dice "1d6 +1" :

2 + 1 = 3

Good luck.
Last Man Standing II, Master of Death - Demitri von Carstein
Ok here's my characters and scouts.

Purple is tyrant, yellow is bsb, black is butcher, white buther is siegebreaker, yellow butcher is bangstick.

All characters go on the left flank cause that is where I think most of the action will be. Tyrant, bsb, and siegebreaker butcher making a small deathstar. The other butcher goes in the back cause I made a little mistake and don't have room for him with the bulls. Scouts go behind the hills to annoy the right flank.

No sorry you can not change items after seeing deploy or list that is part of the game :) I'm personally going with skulmantle in my list which is 100% useless against VC (list is for tournament and so I won't change it for different opponents). Oh and LBs DO need to roll to hit :)

roll for 1st round

Would be very nice winning this

1d6=5

And I do :) But moves will have to wait until after work tomorrow.

Good luck to you to. Could you meanwhile do a little roundup on the items on your characters? I should be familiar with units and spells.

Skull staff gives +1 to cast and dispel
Wristbands of Black Gold 3+ ward save for missiles.
Book of Arkhen Bound spell level 3, Vanhels.
Black Periapt store a power dice or dispel dice and use in the following magic phase as the other.
Last Man Standing II, Master of Death - Demitri von Carstein
ok first wyrdstone on tyrant:

1d6=4

He's fine.

No charges. Bicker. Left to right.

1d6=5, 1d6=5

Good gnoblars.

My moves:

Not much to say. Moving up, forming a focused and strong battleline, the units supporting eachother. Deathstar is hoping to prevent the banshee unit from reaching the wood. Butcher moves up with the bull unit, where he can use his offensive magic and remain protected. LBs in the back manouver a little to be able to provide its service on both flanks. I'm in no hurry on the right flank, except for trappers who move into position march block.

All ok?

Magic:

Siegbreaker butcher tries to cast trollguts on his unit with 1 dice:

1d6=1

Nope :(

The other butcher, same spell on same unit:

1d6=6

That's better. Dispel? How many dispel/power have you got btw.?

I would say you do with your white butcher and IG since you won the last round.

3 attacks with BSB:
Result of the throw of dice "3d6" :

1 + 4 + 4 = 9
wounding on 4+:
Result of the throw of dice "2d6" :

5 + 2 = 7
1 wound at -2 AS.

As I'm a noob at warhammer still so I don't see the difference between the Tyrant killing my BSB and my GG, and the Tyrants overkill killing my GG. With the bulls flanking me and 2 fighter characters I don't see how my unit can avoid poofing.
Last Man Standing II, Master of Death - Demitri von Carstein
6+ armor: 1d6=2

5+ ward:
1d6=1

He takes a wound.

I'm not using the luck gnoblar yet holding on to it to a fight were it actually can matter.

striking back:

1d6=2, 1d6=2, 1d6=1, 1d6=4, 1d6=6
just 2 hits

1d6=3, 1d6=6

2 wounds -4 AS

It can matter cause in a normal scenario I would just have been able to do these 2 wounds to your bsb or kill 2 gg while in a challange there's overkill so the wound will multiply (with tenderizer) posstibly giving me a CR of 6. You are probably right thoug you would probably have gone poof any way but dice can do amazing things in this game and every little thing can sometimes count.

the IG:

1d6=3, 1d6=5, 1d6=1

1 hit:

1d6=4

1 wound -3 AS

butcher:

1d6=5, 1d6=2, 1d6=5

1d6=1, 1d6=4

1 wound -4AS

I think I get 6+ armor saves:
Result of the throw of dice "2d6" :

4 + 6 = 10
Lol 1 :lol: The other wound and how ever many GG are left go POOF.

Do your bulls get to overrun?
Last Man Standing II, Master of Death - Demitri von Carstein
Result of the throw of dice "1d3" :

1 = 1

3gg should get to strike back I believe before they poof :)

bulls would stop in a friendly unit so woundn't make it very far ;)
bulls would stop in a friendly unit so woundn't make it very far

Duh, I spaced out on that one.

3gg should get to strike back I believe before they poof

By my count you killed all my GG to the right of my BSB with your bull unit, and then your BSB, white butcher, and IG killed the front rank of the other GG clump on the left of my BSB. I don't think I'm able to attack with the back rank guys am I?

I think - or atleast that's how I'm used to playing ut - models that aren't in btb with the enemy are killed first. Thus the two in touch with the bulls go first, then the back-rank, then kills go from the front, and if I'm not wrong you can attack back with 3.
3 GG attack, 4+, ?+:
Result of the throw of dice "3d6" :

3 + 4 + 4 = 11
2 hits:
Result of the throw of dice "2d6" :

6 + 6 = 12
To bad your not roughly man sized.  :P
Last Man Standing II, Master of Death - Demitri von Carstein
You have to declare who you attack :) 1 of them can only strike the bsb, the other 2 should be or IG or butcher. How was that 6+ save calculated btw. I think you only have heavy armor? If it is wrong one less should strike on IG/butcher. You don't have to roll again just deside where you do your wounds/were intending on attacking.
The 6+ save was for the Vamp, he has a lot of armor.

I will attack your characters where ever possible. 1 on BSB and the other 2 on Butcher I guess.
Last Man Standing II, Master of Death - Demitri von Carstein
ok they both take a wound, I think it safe to say the rest of your unit goes poof :) Over to you then I think, sorry about the long wait.
Charges:
Wraths into Bulls.
Left zombies into rhinox.
Middle zombies into IG.

Reactions?
Last Man Standing II, Master of Death - Demitri von Carstein
Bulls flee, rhinox holds, Ig holds.

Bulls run:

2d6=9

safe. You hit the deatstar I think.

I won't hit the deathstar with a failed charge as I'm short on movement.

Here are moves:

Lord casting Summon Undead Horde:
Result of the throw of dice "4d6 +1 >= 12" :

6 + 5 + 3 + 5 + 1 = 20 ... success

Since your 3 dice can't get that and you are out of scrolls:
Result of the throw of dice "5d6" :

6 + 6 + 4 + 1 + 2 = 19

Flyer and Ghost casting nehek on new zombies:
Rolling "1d6 >= 4" 2 times

1: 4 = 4 ... success
2: 5 = 5 ... success

sum: 9, average: 4.50, success: 2/2 100%
Dispel either of those?

To be honest I had not seen any way I could pull out even a minor loss after my "hammer" unit went down. Now I think I have given myself some options in this battle. I might write up my own Ogre army after I've seen how nasty they can be if played right.
Last Man Standing II, Master of Death - Demitri von Carstein
I won't hit the deathstar with a failed charge as I'm short on movement.
You can redirect the charge should you choose read the rules on p23 of the rulebook. I thought it was automatic, but it is your choice, so you can choose to either get the new target or have a failed charge as you have now.

Also i forgot my deathstar needs a panic from bulls, I'm so used to having maneaters for my deatstar now I considered them immune to panic. I have a reroll however so they should be fine:

2d6=6

yes fine

Where are your zombies coming up and how many are their before you try to raise?
Zombies are in front of your deathstar.

Last Man Standing II, Master of Death - Demitri von Carstein
And there are 19 in that unit.
Last Man Standing II, Master of Death - Demitri von Carstein
Sorry I think I will have to concede from my WHO battles. I've become loaded with work and will be for a long time and when I have spare time there's other things on my schedual than these games. I'm really sorry abot any time that might be considered wasted, but it's no fun when having to update these threads is a burden rather than something I look forward to. I had good fun while it lasted and I hope you did to. Hope there will be no hard feelings :)
No problem mate. It's all good.
