Ogre bad luck stories

Well I noticed the scraplauncher being brought up in another thread, every time i try using one it gets owned.

Badluck Story 1 Scraplauncher
Turn 1 Scraplauncher Misfires and you guessed it rolls a 1 bye Bye Scrappy 1/6 x 1/6 = 1/36 chance.

Badluck Story 2 Bull Rhinox
Turn 1 Infernal Gateway on them irresistable force (couldn't use the 2 scrolls I had) and Rune Maw Banner failed 1/36 x 1/18 x 1/6 = 1/3888

Badluck Story 3 Teclis High Elf (another player at our club)
Miscast, re rolled miscast & yes rolled a 1 on the miscast table 1/36 x 1/36 x 1/6 =1/7776

Yesterday, I was playing against some dark elves, turn 1, the scrappy misfires and runs headlong into a unit of ironguts before exploding, one dead scrappy, two dead ironguts, one stupid look on my tyrant's face.

Ok my turn guys,

I was up against a solid block of knights of the realm with chars, my unit had a maw seeker bruiser butcher and 6 IGs. I might also add I had tooth cracker on them so they were stubborn, I lost combat I rolled for my leadership nothing could go wrong right(or nearly nothing anyway)... yeah well a 9 was rolled and I rolled a stinking 2 for fleeing! so I lost my deathstar...

Oh well this kind of thing happens, but this hasn't happened to me again though (Thank god).

Hello. My name is Ray. I play ogres. I hate to mentally relive this event, but I will tell it because of what it taught me.

Turn 3:

Activate Hellheart against my brother's Slaanesh list. He rolls to cast the "move where I want you" spell (cant ever remember that stupid spell name). Double 6s. Irresistible Force and a miscast. My unit moves right into harms way, then we resolve the miscast. He rolls a 1. Then rolls a 5 for 3 wounds per butcher. He blows up an 80pts wizard and KILLS 2 Butchers (Trollguts knocked a wound off one, Toothcracker the other) and knocks the other down to 1 wound. So essentially I paid 50pts to blow up an 80pts wizard and give him 440VPs (he got half from the other Butcher, I couldnt get gruels off to get him back up past half) and it didnt make a damn bit of difference to what he was casting!!!!

Moral of the Story:

DONT EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER use a Hellheart. Its the suckiest suck that ever sucked a suck.

My Tyrant was charged by a Bloodthrister I survived his first round of attacks.  My turn to swing back and I scored 5 hits with the big T.  Then I rolled five 1's.

My best one: My scraplauncher misfires. Oh crap. My opponent gets to shoot it. Bugger. He rolls a misfire as well and blows up MY scraplauncher. The bastard!

Skrag the Slaughterer losing CC with an Goblin Hero on Wolf and 1st level goblin wizard on wolf, flees combat and gets overrun. Or the Tyrant fighting CC with skeletons, and gets flanked by zombies. Is outnumbered, and he has ranks, flees 8", Skeletons get 10" on followup.   Of course this was against the same guy who against my Dwarves lost his 4th Level demon prince to 1 round of shooting to my 40 thunderers and 2 cannons, then had his hellcannon explode killing 5 Chosen ones, and 8 Chaos Warriors, and 3 Knights of Khorne.

Then you did it wrong.
when you have a miscast and a irresistable force, the miscast is worked out, the IF is ignored.
It's the double 1 double 6 principle explained in the BRB

actually when using a hellheart it specifically says double 6's are both IF and a miscast. No double 1 is needed.

my skragg rolls a 1 one the miscast table, blows up, kills 3 IGS and 1 butcher. does the maw love or hate the guy?!

Me to, damn annoying

The situation I experienced was a rather stupid one, too:

Game vs. VCs, my opponent has a unit of 9 skeletons left. My three ironguts charge the skeletons to the rear(!), inflict no wounds(!), take two back(!), he has a banner, so I test at -1, break and get run down.

That was the most pitiful gaming experience I had with Ogres and it took me a while before I sent the "elite" Ogres back into action

This one happened yesterday

My Tyrant just killed a DOC Daemon Prince and overrun. Next turn 4 furies charged him, scored 2 wounds, I hit two, wound one and he saves. One failed ld. test later my general gets overrun by those damn flying daemons.

Oh I love this thread. These happen on several games...

Scraplauncher: Turn 2, I misfire, result, I think it's 3 where my opponent get's to use it for free. He targets my gnoblar unit and rolls a misfire witha result of a 1 taking it out.

This time it happened in a conflict tournament and all this happened in 1 game!! I must of gotten bad points for sportsmanship  heheheh
1.  2 units of leadbelchers misfire 3/4.
2.  1 Butcher miscast, result 1, killing him and another one.
3.  4 ironguts charge, on 12 attacks, 9 hit, needing 2's to wound, rolling 7 1's.

How about this one. A unit of ironguts get routed within 6 of my tyrant. He has kineater. He rolls a 10 and a 12. The next round he rolls an 11 when trying to rally. The next round he is pursued and caught by a sorcerer on a disc. That's why my tyrants tend to find themselves in a unit of maneaters.

Other than the fact that I played in a grand tournament in which both of my butchers died from a single miscast in two games (still got best general), I remember one instance of bad luck that still haunts me.

I was playing against a SoC Slannesh daemon list and was doing very well. Through a series of feints and bluffs, I was able to charge his main block of daemonettes, led by a daemon prince and BSB, with four ironguts and tenderizing tyrant in the front, a giant in the flank, and a fully ranked unit of gnoblars in the other flank. I was up on him in static combat res by four points before blows were even struck. At the end of the combat, all of my units were broken. Sucky.

Well of course the trusty Lead Belchers.

3 Fire and yes 2 misfire destroying the whole unit, they were put on the shelf for a few games after that.

this one was my favorite
i had a unit of 4 leadbelchers i rolled 40 hits! eoe right , this unit is dead meat right? the look on my opponents face was complete disbelief.  Then after rolling to hit and wound and after his saves on a unit of khorne chaos knights low and behold, i didnt do 1 wound not even 1!!.  the look of disbelief transmuted over to my face.  After that i realized the only thing realiable they do is flee.

Not so much a story as much as a personal touch of bad luck.  Every time i've fielded a butcher one has miscast.  I ussually only throw one die at a spell but sometimes I have one spell left that I'd like to see go off and my opponent has 3 DD so I throw both of them or some other such situation occurs.  ALWA ALWAYS roll 1 miscast (oddly enough I almost always roll frenzy for what happens to them).

I always miscast when using 2 dice for Gutmagic.  Every single time.

I don't use 2 dice ever anymore for Gutmagic.

First tournament. First game. First shooting phase. First misfire. First dead scrappie.

Hmmm, scrappies seem to be a bit of a theme here.....

Bettered it with miscast + double one on the miscast table with VC Lord in turn one a couple of weeks back though.

Well the odds are that each Scraplauncher will misfire once per game. The effect of that misfire will vary.

The same can be said for each individual Leadbelcher.

I almost pulled off the gnoblar story of the century last night - but the dice decided it was not to be

I was playing a 3000 point game agaisnt warriors of chaos - my opponent was using archeon - everchosen of chaos!

He deployed archeon in the middle of his unit of knights on one flank of his army.  I gave him first turn and he moved forwards full distance. 

On that flank I had a gnoblar fighter block, a unit of bulls, a unit of ironguts and a hunter.  I'd figured that ignoring archeon and crushing the rest of his army was a better plan

I marched some ironguts right into his face and angled the gnoblar fighter block towards where the ironguts had been.  My hunter spent the turn putting a bolt through his giant for 3 wounds

on his second turn, he charged the unit+archeon into the ironguts and I flee.  I get run down and he moves full distance placing him right where I want him.  On my turn I hit him in each flank - gnoblar fighter unit passing its terror test to get into one flank and the hunter going in the other with his cats!   The hunter had the seigebreaker too.  No one was in a position to challenge anything and archaeon was not in the fight.

I won combat by 5 - but he got insane courage!

next combat round I won by 3 - he failed the first break test, but he has a re-roll due to archeon's rules and passes that

unfortunatly, that meant I'd slaughtered all but 1 of the knights now and that put archeon in base contact with the gnoblars - he unleashes his daemon sword and kills 6 of them - I lose combat by 1.

hunter gets run down and the fighters never rally - some trappers panic as well and never rally either.

archeon, still unwounded, goes on to kill 2 out of 3 rhinox riders - despite losing comabt 2 more times here and passing his break test (needing a re-roll again)  He has 2 miscasts during the game and both times he manages to come out unscathed and have removed a load of gut magic buffs from the table

In the last turn I have archeon in the back of a lone rhinox rider so I hit him in one flank with another rhinox, in the rear with a pair of bulls and in the other flank with my entire maneater+3 character deathstar.

he holds - again on the re-roll.

sigh - if those gnoblars had taken him in the second turn I could have dined out on it for a month - twas not meant to be

p.s. ogres won the game with a massacre as archeon was all he had left.

My newest bad luck story comes from my hunter during a battle vs empire

The game before, said hunter took down a lord of slannesh on a slanessh mount and soem chaos warriors

During game he manages 5!!!!!!!! rolls to hit in a row, sigh

another one: A game vs. HElfs, 1000 pts, a rather crowded map.
First magic phase of the elves- he kills a leadbelcher, they fail a panic test and run, never to rally.
First shooting phase of the elves- he kills an irongut, I roll 11 for panic test, then 10 next turn and 12 the next round, so bye bye goes my unit with a bruiser.

After the second round, I only had one non fleeing unit on the board. I called the game in turn three, when my only unit wanted to restrain pursuiting the scouts, and of course, rolled an 11.
I didn´t pass one single Ld test in that game.

Suffice to say, I changed my dice after that game.

Today I played my first ever games with the Ogres. The first game was versus an experienced player fielding a quite bad high elves list. He starts and shoots some stuff, nothing bad. My turn one I advance and then I let loose the magical pyrotechnics. Or so I would have thought. However my first spell is braingobble on his phoenix guard on two dice. I roll double one followed by a one on the miscast. This of course puts three wounds on the other butcher too... Safe to say my bad luck continued as the scraplauncher misfired and died (rolled a one of course) after scattering wildly for two turns.

The second battle was against a fellow rookie fielding orcs and goblins. As my scraplauncher manages to hit smack bam on top of his black orc warboss and gives it the killing blow together with four of its cronies I start to think that my bad luck has run out. When he fails five out of seven of his animosity test in his next turn I start to believe that it has transferred to the other guy. Then one of my butchers miscasts a braingobble, I roll a one on the miscast and he's gone. His butcher colleague had unfortunately already accrued three wounds so he died to. After that everything fell to pieces...

All in all I think I'm hooked on Ogres now
