I randomly came up with this idea to (I think) help balance Ogres a little. I think it makes up for the fact that we dont get static combat resolution. No ranks, rarely outnumbering and rarely do we carry banners. On the other hand, anything we fight usually has at least 2 or 3 rank bonuses, outnumber, banner etc.
I was thinking that, when fighting Ogres, enemy do NOT gain combat resolution points for every wound caused. Instead, they only gain points for each whole model killed. This would only apply to standard, multi-wound infantry, like Bulls, Ironguts, Leadbelchers etc. Would not apply to characters or Giants. If this rule was used universally rather than just for Ogres, it wouldn't apply to Monsters or Monstrous Mounts either.
I honestly do not think it is overpowered, as long as the enemy chooses the right units to fight the right units. For example, if a unit of 4 Bulls was fighting a unit of 20 Saurus Warriors. The Bulls are only likely to get 2 or 3 kills, if lucky, for a total combat resolution of 2 (or 3 if they, for some reason, take a banner.) The Saurus are quite likely to cause at least 6 unsaved wounds. Trust me, I fight LM a lot, it does and will happen. This gives them a total Combat Res of 7 (3 for ranks, 1 for outnumber, 1 for banner, 2 for killing 2 whole Ogres). They still win combat by 4 or 5! Even if those Bulls had a Tyrant in them, it is unlikely the Tyrant would kill 5 or 6 models in order to help win the combat. Not overpowered. All it does is give us a slightly better chance of winning, and a slightly better chance of not breaking when we lose.
Logic even supports the rule. Ogres in combat wouldn't give a flying hoot if they get wounded. They will not lose moral or slow down, they will simply ignore it until they die. So why the hell should the enemy gain combat res for wounding without killing, when it has really not effected the fight at all?
Thoughts?
