This was a pick-up game today at a local GW store.
It was also my first game against beastmen
We weren't being picky about having tournament legal army lists, and we made a restriction of no magic (his idea) - here's what we fielded:
Beastmen:
1 tuskagor chariot with scythed wheels and a extra rider
1 chaos giant
22 gors, full command and a wargor hero
Ogres:
3 bulls + ironfist
3 bulls + ironfist
2 leadbelchers + bellower
8 trappers
1 hunter + 2 sabretusks
battlefield: only scenery of note was a herdstone right in the middle of the table.
He deployed his chariot and giant on the left of the herdstone, the gors waited to ambush....
I deployed my leadbelchers on the right of the stone, a unit of bulls on either side, had my hunter and cats lined up with the giant and on a slight rise and hid the trappers behind the stone out of LoS of his chariot.
I get the first turn - yay!
turn 1 - ogres
no bickering
I move up everything except the hunter who has range on the giant, the trappers step out in front of the chariot and into range for sharp stuff.
trappers cause a wound on the chariot, hunter rolls a 1 and misses with the harpoon launcher.
I pass the turn.
turn 1 - beastmen
his beastmen jump out from the herdstone at the ogres that are just behind the trappers, they fail their fear check, however, and don't charge in.
his chariot charges into the trappers, his giant moves up a bit.
the trappers stand their ground and lose 2 of their number, they cause another wound back, but lose combat - however, they pass the break test!
turn 2 - ogres
I charge into the gors with the 3 bulls and wheel my other bull unit for a rear/flank charge next turn, the hunter releases the cats and stays put to try another shot at the giant. The trappers are in cc and the leadbelchers come past the herdstone and shoot at the chariot.
hunter rolls another 1!! (drat)
the leadbelchers get 6 wounds on the chariot, however, and blow it to bits!
the ogres who charged the gors were too close for bull charge, and the gors pass their fear test - I use ironfist as a weapon and deliver 4 wounds, taking 1 back - I lose combat by 1, but pass the test.
I pass the turn
turn 2 - beastmen
his giant charges at the trappers who flee as a charge reaction, they don't get run down either!
gors continue combat with the 3 bulls
the gors deliver a beating to the ogres who do get a couple more wounds in - they then get broken and fail their test by 1 and are run down after a short chase...
all is not lost however....
turn 3 - ogres
trappers rally!
leadbelchers stay put and reload.
cats charge the giant in the rear
the remaining unit of 3 bulls charges the gors in the rear and get a bull charge!
the hunter twists a little and shoots at the gors again.
hunter finally hits! killing 1 gor.
ogres and the bull charge do 5 wounds, no attacks back on me! They stick around however
cats do no wounds, and 1 dies in return - the giant can't catch the other however, and in chasing it goes back within the range of the leadbelchers...
turn 3 - beastmen
the gors turn to face the 3 bulls
the giant charges the leadbelchers who stand and shoot
the giant take 1 wound from the leadbelchers due to its high toughness
it fails to hit the belchers who duck out of the way of a club - they hit back for 2 more wounds!
the gors attack the ogres and cause 2 wounds, I get 5 more back and win - I finally have outnumber so teh gors autobreak and are run down.
game ends due to lack of time
ogres win by 243 points
another hefty victory to the ogres!!
