Once again, it was me vs. the pointy-eared ones...much this time the lists on both sides were much different.
High elves:
8 silver helms with command
16 spearmen
16 phoenix guard with command
10 archers
7 shadow warriors with champion
1 level 2 mage (army general)
+ magic stuff (unknown)
ogres:
4 ironguts with standard bearer
3 bulls
3 bulls
1 butcher with bangstick and scroll
1 bruiser with heavy armour, wyrdstone necklace, luck gnoblar and a brace of handguns
25 gnoblars
8 trappers
2 leadbelchers with bellower
I deployed my gnoblars on my left flank, my 2 units of bulls in a line next to each other, my irongut unit with both characters slightly behind them and my leadbelchers off to the right aiming down a small gap between 2 rocks towards the phoenix guard. My trappers were able to hide behind a hill on the flank on the phoenix guard, while her shadow warriors snuck up behind the gnoblars...
turn 1 - high elves
she moves up with all units a little, and the phoenix guard move quite a bit. she shoots at the gnoblars with the archers but is about 1/2" short on range, shoots them again with the shadow warriors and kills 1 gnoblar
mage tries fire of khane spell, but fails to cast on 3 dice, mage then goes ethereal with another spell
no cc, so passes turn.
turn 1 - ogres
no bickering - yay!
trappers move up towards the flank of the phoenix guard and into range for sharp stuff. gnoblars move up to offer themselves as a target for the archers and silver helms.
bull units move forward and spread out a little, irongut unit moves forward a bit, using the gap between the bull units for LoS.
leadbelchers move forward and get between 2 rocks (just fit), they are in range of the phoenix guard (just).
trappers chuck stuff at the phoenix guard, killing 2 of them
bruiser shoots at silver helms with handguns, but fails to wound
leadbelchers both misfire! when the smoke clears, however, I've only taken 1 wound (phew!)
magic phase - I try a bangstick with gets stopped, a bonecruncher - also dispelled, I do get a trollguts spell on the ironguts unit however
no cc, I pass the turn
turn 2 - high elves
phoenix guard charge the leadbelchers who flee to a safe distance. archers move up a bit, shadow warriors get a bit closer to the gnoblars.
shadow warriors fail to kill any more gnoblars, archers kill 1 more.
mage cast fire of knaine spell on a unit of bulls - I use a dispel scoll tos top it, mage goes ethereal again...
no cc, turn passes
turn 2 - ogres
no bickering, leadbelchers rally thanks to the bellower and reload.
gnoblar unit moves a bit closer as do the bull units and the ironguts - I'm on the edge of my own charge range with these units now. Any one she hits is going to get itself flanked however...
trappers shoot at phoenix guard again but all fail to wound, bruiser shoots again and fails to wound a silverhelm
bangstick at the silverhelms draws a dispel dice
bonecruncher at the silver helms - she fails to dispel on 2 dice! I do 7 wounds (great rolling) and smash her hammer unit to bits, just the champion remaining, but he sticks around.
toothcraker on a bull unit also works
no cc, turn passes
turn 3 high elves - she charges the gnoblars with her archers, no other mvoement.
shoots at the gnoblars with the shadow warriors, fails to hit any.
tries fire of knaine, I go all out on dispel dice and stop it - she fails to go ethereal
archers don't kill any gnoblars, gnoblars kill 1 archer, archers pass their break test despite the heavy cr against them.
passes turn.
turn 3 - ogres
still no bickering from the trappers, fighters in cc already
I charge the last silver helm with a unit of bulls (bull charge)
I charge the spearmen with the other bull unit (bull charge)
move up my ig unit and turn towards the phoenix guard
move up my leadbelchers back into firing range on the phoenix guard
trappers kill another phoenix guard with sharp suff, leadbelcher kill another 4.
bangstick gets through, but fails to wound, other she uses a dispel scroll on a bonecruncher aimed at the phoenix guard.
bull charge on the silver helm kills him, the spearmen are beaten in combet and flee (but don't get caught - 1 inch short), archers lose combat despite killing a couple of lemmings and are run down by the gnoblars (yay!)
game ends due to lack of time..
she lost:
8 silver helms
16 spearmen fleeing (several dead)
half her phoenix guard
10 archers
I lost:
5 gnoblars
massive win to the ogres, and my hammer unit never made it to close combat either
I'm beginning to feel a little guilty about beating elves up - but I think my opponent was simply not aggressive enough, even wit this radically different list from our 500 point warband battles.
