I had my first 2000 pts battle with my ogres. Have not been playing very long, mostly small games upto 1000 pts, mostly lost, but always having fun!
This time I had a friend coming over, who had some more experience, and brought his Empire army.
My list was this:
Tyrant, Thundermace, Greedy Fist, 2 tooth-gnoblars
Bruiser, Tenderiser
Butcher, Bloodcleaver, Halfling Cookbook, Luck-gnoblars
Hunter, Spangleshard, 2 sabre-tusks
4x Leadbelchers
6x Ironguts, 2x bellower, standard and rag-banner
3x Bulls, light armour, banner, bellower, Ironfist
2x Gorgers
8x Trappers
3x Yhetees
His army had around 10 Knights, 8 Pistoliers, 2 Units Halberdiers, 1 unit Swordsmen, 1 Wizard, level 1, 2 Cannon, 1 Helblaster, 1 Hochland rifle, 10 Handgunners, 12 Greatswords with Army Standard and General and a captain on pegasus, I can have forgotten some items, he did had some extra items, like armour of meteoric iron and sword of sigismund.
For me it was the first time I used the Hunter and Yhetee, and also a full 4 Leadbelchers. Also I did place my characters in Ironguts and Bull-units.
The first turns were relatively unlucky for me, lost 2 bulls and a leadbelcher to his cannon and handgunners.
The Yhetee jumped over the terrain, aiming for the helblaster.
Second turn my first gorger came on the field, but promptly got crushed by a fire-ball of a measly level 1 wizard... 6 on the dice and 5x 5's!
The first closecombat was between the knights and the yhetee, he charged, but got crushed good, three tin-men smashed and two fled.
The Helblaster failed to kill my butcher, who used braingobbler, toothcracker and even a bloodgruel... Toothcracker worked, but my butcher-unit was mangled by gun-fire. Leadbelcher let go and killed 3 handgunners, but go himself hit with 2 S10 shots, but survived!
The Yhetee flanked the helblaster, killed the crew and attacked the handgunners, who fled.
On the center-stage, the hunter missed his general with his crossbow and let the sabre-tusks charge in the great-swords... not the best move.
Still, they killed two, one of the kitties got put down, the other fled, causing panic-tests with my hunter and bruiser/ironguts.
The hunter stayed, but the bruiser turned around.
My Tyrant attacked some poor handgunners, with his thundermace. He killed four and the remaining guys fled away. My Tyrant did receive 4 hits and had only 1 wound left.
Second gorger smashed one cannon, the bruiser rallied and attacked the greatswords, who also got charged by two leadbelchers. The gnoblar-trappers attacked the swordsmen, and held 2 turn the humies off!
The hunter was killed at last, right before the bruiser-charge, but revenge was sweet, with one mighty heave, the Tenderiser killed 3 greatswords, and the ironguts did splat 4 other canned-suits.
After killiing the swordsmen, my remaining trappers attacked bravely the pistoliers, but were dispatched by the horses(...)
In the last turn, my tyrant killed two knights, the butcher and his ironguts fled the field, the Yhetee attacked the halberdiers, and the pistoliers tried to kill the gorger, they failed.
It took us 6 hours, and was great fun! We were both pretty inexperienced and many time whe needed the books, or got an agreement.
The victory-point gave us a draw, with a little advantage for the ogres!
I learned a lot about my ogres, they do better with bigger armies!
Get me a scraplauncher, group my leadbelchers with a man-eater or a bruiser, make more use of gnoblars for screening. Gorgers and Yhetees are pretty effective assasins, I can't wait to see some Yhetees galloping through the wood and watch the face on my opponent with her wood-elves.
I had fun, I learned a lot, don't like Helblaster, but have one anyway, next army; Empire!
