Beginning an Ogre Collection

original thread ↗

Greetings all!

I am an old school Warhammer player back from a nine year hiatus. As someone who had every single Fantasy army (except High Elves), I decided to limit myself to 1 good guy and 1 bad guy army. My good guy army is 2000 points of Dwarves, and I decided on Ogre Kingdoms for my bad guy army. So far all I have is the army book and a squad of bulls which I painted up with much carnage splattered across them. I would like some advice on what units I should collect please. Here is the list of units what I think I need, please feel free to comment on its validity.

Tyrant
Butcher
Ironguts x3 units
Bulls x3 units
Lead Belchers x2 units
Gnoblar Warriors
Slave Giant
Scrap Launcher
Hunter
Hungry!
I'm not sure a hunter, scraplauncher or a slave giant belong on a "need" list.

Personally I'd suggest:

2 gorgers
2 units of 20-25 gnoblar fighters
1 unit of 8-9 gnoblar trappers
2-3 butchers
3 maneaters
2 units of 3 bulls
3 units of 3 ironguts
a couple of models to be brusiers (tyrants with some kitbashing, maneaters, etc.)
4 leadbelchers

this will allow you to play around with different builds until you find a style that works for you and little will ever go to waste.
x105 - keeping pace with my wins!

Ogre achievements: 65/101 latest: maneater (play in 5 different venues)

Latest Fantasy Result: ogre kingdoms vs. high elves - 1500 points - win!

8th edition: 105/25/12
New ogres: 36/6/5

I was born and bred in a briar patch!
I'd recommend picking up two battalion boxes. That'll give you enough bodies and parts to bash together just about anything, and then you can pick up a few other models, say some maneaters or maybe a tyrant kit. Aside from a hunter, my collection is all plastic kit parts, mostly from the battalion boxes. A little bit of greenstuffing goes a long way with ogres. They're super easy to convert due to their size.
