Nice that you're getting your lad into the hobby WC, no doubt you can have some fun building and painting them too

maybe a little FF
I just built a chaplain with power fist and crozium as well. I'm not sure if 2 power weapons have a purpose on such a model, but the pose is rather nice.

This put me in the mood for 40K fluff... Mind if I include some Raven Guard getting shoop'd by a couple of Necrons in the Maw-Pit Sagas, WC? Hell, it might not be as imaginative as Mourne, but I'll try it.

So that means I can include naked alien women with laser beams coming out of their eyes while they eat cheese and pickle sandwiches?

yes - as long as you are prepared for the consequences (cracks knuckles and gives meaningful look).

right, I'm trying to get a firm idea on how many transports and other vehicles the 3rd company of the raven guard would have access to.
From what I've read about them, they are a "codex" chapter, but tend to favour drop pods and thunderhawks (in fact, they tend top have more of these than the other chapters) and have also built up tactics around the use of rhinos and razorbacks - but tend not to use much of the heavier stuff
hope I've got that right....
anyway, I was wondering how many of each vehicle I should buy/build if I was to try and create the company in full, with a little additional support.
The final goal is currently:
6 10 man tactical squads 2 10 man assault squads 2 10 man devastator squads 1 shrike 1 chaplain 1 command squad 2 dreadnaughts
reinforced by:
1 10 man assualt termiantor squad from the 1st company 2 10 man scout squads from the 10th company
so for this I was initially planning
3 drop pods (1 for each dreadnaught and 1 other for a tactical squad) 3 rhinos (for tactical squads)
but would I need more for the battle company?
for the other forces I was planning a scout bike squad for the scouts as an option and nothign for the termiantors as they can teleport in froma homer on either the drop pods or the bikes.
would you go further?

I was planning on keeping them with the standard stormbolters just to add a little firepower - their main use though is to get the dreds close to enemy lines so that they can get stuck in.
as a secondary use, if I'm using terminators to teleport in, a homing beacon on them can help too.

"they are the heroes because they go and help the people that other people won't - shrike can stop those orks from killing them all."
Nothing can stop the green tide, WAAAAAAAAAAAAAGHHHHHHH.
On a more serious note, I'll be following this gnoblog, its awesome that you and your son get to build his first army togheter must be a fun experience! Not sure on the vehicles but I think every squad has its rhino in the company's. Can't wait to see some pictures here.
Wildcard07 Mar 2009
well, Thomas started work on the first of his 10 man tactical squads today, thanks to the first day we've had to undercoat stuff outside this year.
He'll have that, a dred and a rhino to try tomorrow - and I'll try to get his second tactical squad and some assault terminators (all with lightning claws, of course) for him to try next.

It must be quite a wholesome bonding activity, assembling and painting genetically-engineered super soldiers raised to kill things...
I've never seen Terminators with Lightning Claws before, so they'll look quite cool if you decide to post them.

well, the end of term is looming and its time for Wildcard and his boy to get back to the space marines I've been making a couple of purchases here and there for the force to spread the costs and, although no more painting has been done since the rhino was started, I'm feeling better about getting back into this.
we now have the 10-man assualt terminator squad models and the second drop pod and tactical squad.
On tuesday we'll be getting the rhino finished and then we'll get squad number 2 done.
I'll try and get pics of what's been done so far up then too.

Current projected list: kayvan shrike company chaplain honour guard (with rhino) 6 tactical squads (3 rhinos and 3 drop pods) 2 devastator squads (with rhinos) 2 assault squads 2 scout squads (one of land speeders, one of bikes) 3 dreadnaughts (with drop pods) 1 assault terminator squad (being kayvan shrike's personal guard unit)
so that's 6 rhinos and 6 drop pods needed, with no other heavy weapons/vehicles required as the raven guard don't use too many of them.

Don't you have to take a chapter master tofield an honour guard?
Otherwise looks very nice and fluffy
Thanks Corai

How much points is that? It seems like over 2,000 points. If you have managed to fit all that into 2,000 points, that's awesome because all those vehicle and drop pods will make for some fun games.
I would recommend making one of the assault squads into shrikes bodyguard. A command squad would be great, but for some reason they can be given bikes, but not jump packs. I was just wondering how you were getting the honor guard into the list? They are only able to be taken if you have a chapter master and I thought shrike was a captain. EDIT: Looks like Corai beat me to it.
The new assault termies are deadly with the new thunder hammers and strom shields. Although if this is just a fun army for your son, I'm assuming you are using the lighting claws to go along with the Shrike look. I like the look of lightning claws better.
I'm not ssure if you have points, but I would make the dreads into ironclads if you're dropping them in. I'm sure you could convert the black reach one or get the cool new ironclad models.
Finally, I would take Chaplain Cassius over the normal one and just conver a normal chaplain model into a ravenguard one. It's a joke how much better Tiberius and Cassius are compared to the generic librarian and chaplain for so few points.
Sorry if you weren't looking for comments on the list, I was just bored

my mistake on the honor guard - shows how much I know about 40k!
The thunder hammers are great, but yes - its lightning claws all the way (unless Thomas changes his mind!)
I have no idea on the points cost of the force - the intent is to simply make the entire battle company (with some add ons from the 1st and the scouting companies), rather than to make a specific army. We'll be sticking to the codex-chapter build as much as possible (as the raven guard are a codex chapter), but with less heavy support vehichles and more drop pods as thata the way teh raven guard prefer their fighting
