Looking good :) Are you gonna make a model for that character you posted in the house rules section? :)

Thanks for all the great comments!

@Josh: I'm pretty sure I will. It will be a while though.

@Kallus: I'm afraid of what I'd do. But Sklash himself will not have a model. It's a bit complex... You'll find out soon enough (a chapter or two).

UPDATE!!

I got bored, so I decided to give a try at making a (very) minor conversion. Essentially, it is my attempt at making a Clanrat with a tonfa instead of a shield:

This reminds me. I need advice on how to take decent pictures. All advice would be very much appreciated.

Does your camera have a macro setting?  It's usually signified by a flower symbol.  Try not to use a digital zoom, because any movement will blur the image, but put the actual camera closer, and steady it by any means possible.  Looks like you're fine on lighting which is the part I can never get to work.  Other than can't really comment on the model until I can actually... see it... sorry.  Hope I helped?

I would totally play a Bear army. Bears riding bears?!

After finding the macro button, which was ridiculously hard, I took pictures of all my Skaven models I have so far. Thanks to Kallus for pointing out the macro function to me.

After looking over the models, I realised that I have two themes emerging from my Clanrats. My first ones have nice goldish-bronze weapons and they are all tidy and whatnot. My newer ones have an edgier look with damaged weapons and using weapons as shields. So I divised some fluff for the two groups that I will post tomorrow. Without further ado, here are my assembled models thus far:

Tonfa Rat

Spike Rat

Rat Ogre

Warplock Engineer

Epic Pose Clanrat

Standard Bearer Clanrat

Musician Clanrat

Blocker Clanrat

Standard Clanrat

There. I need to point out a few things first.

1. Why no tails? Because they are a pain in the arse to rank up. Plus they fall off too much.

2. Doesn't that make the Rat Ogre look like he has a giant butt ho--? Yes, but I'll fill it in with GS or just cut off the rest of the tail.

3. How come no real painting? I want to build the infernal army first, then I'll worry about the painting.

4. Why are you using brown primer? Because that's all I have at the moment and all brown undercoated models were my old ones.

That should straighten out most of the questions. If you a different question to ask, just do so.

Now that I can finally see some clear pics, I like the tonfa rat.  I also like the mutant rat ogre.  Does the model come with the arms like that or did you do it?
I have an idea for the tails (at least the plastic ones).  If you very carefully hold them above a flame the plastic will soften and become malleable.  You can then bend them so they curve around the body of the rat and stay within the boundaries of the base so they rank up.  I did this with a bunch of the gaunts in my tyranid army just to mix it up a bit.  Try it out on a piece of sprue to get the hang of it without melting the plastic.  I won't blame you for not doing it with every clanrat but I think the ogre needs it (unless its part of your fluff that the general cuts off all their tails to make his army unique).

I really like the models so far :D
I know how it feels with  the tails :D
I helped a friend with night runners once and i never want to do it again :D
The big hole on the rat ogre can as you said be filled with green stuff but i think that you could make it look like another mutation :D
Maybe dare i say it, a very short tail that splits into two :D

Hello all, I know its been a while, so I'll cut the chit-chat. Unfortunately, I have neither fluff nor models to show you. However, I now have a goal! *trumpet fanfare and balloons fall from the ceiling*

*ahem*

On Saturday, May 9, 2009, I will be attending my first Warhammer tournament! I'll be playing at 1k and at least half of my models are required to be painted. Fair enough. So I'll use my time wisely and get as much building and painting during the break as I can! Expect (or maybe not...) daily updates. Also, I have figured out the list I want to field just won't be possible, as I need a case to transport my models and I need some more stuff. So here is the list I was brainstorming:

Warlock Engineer
Full kit minus pistol and accumulator, Storm-Daemon, Dispel Scroll
115pts

Assassin
Warpstone Stars
155pts

25 Clanrats
Standard Bearer, Musician
140pts

25 Clanrats
Standard Bearer, Musician
140pts

25 Clanrats
Standard Bearer, Musician
140pts

20 Plague Monks
Full Command, Banner of Burning Hatred, Additional Hand Weapon
210pts

Rat Ogre
50pts

Rat Ogre
50pts

Total: 1000pts

Please note this is somewhat limited by what I have at the moment, just need to buy another box of Clannies. I'll be using the Clanrat w/ Tonfa as my 'Sin. So what do you guys think?

Okay then...

As much as I'd like to say that the break resulted in lots of building and painting; it is the opposite: nothing was done. I actually have a good excuse! My glue is all gone and my dad has been giving me the whole "I'll take you tomorrow" speech for the WHOLE WEEK!! Not to mention I hate that brown primer...

However, good news! I got the 3rd chapter done. This is where things get really weird. Please note that this draft has yet to be editted, but has been sent to my super editor (Reg06).

Chapter 3: The Meeting Foretold

A rat skittered across the dirt ground. Its eyes were wide with panic as its small paws kept pattering along the floor. As it ran, a fist dropped down onto the poor pest, crushing its bones as a small splattering of blood remained on the furred fist and the tunnel floor.

The warrior Skaven licked its clawed hand, free of the foul black-red blood. Its large torso was covered in rusting armour, that creaked as the stale wind blew through the tunnel. The being looked through its left eye, having the right one covered by a ragged cloth. Its blade hung on its belt without a sheathe, the unholy green glow offering a slight illumination of the small cavern room the towering fighter stood in.

Feeling a presence entering the room, the Skaven warrior spun around on the spot, drawing his blade in an instant. In front of him stood an assassin whose cloak seemed to be one with the darkness. Its voice was almost enchanting but had seemed to have no effect on the warrior. "He is coming, Liskag. And he will be more powerful than before."

The massive rat laughed, his voice dark and full of malice. "That fool-fool? Sklash? This makes thing-things easier; it would seem-look like I have no need-point to look for him. Let him come-come." Liskag sheathed his blade, waiting for Shadowclawwe to leave. It would seem that the assassin had more news for the newly crowned warlord.

"My apprentice wishes to meet with you. He seems to prefer a method of fighting he had witnessed in Cathay to daggers and poison. I would appreciate if you could..." The assassin pulled back his lips, revealing his perfect teeth in a hideous smile. "Remove him for me." The assassin made way for the entrance. "Oh Liskag. Do not let the Horned One down; for I hear that Sklash will stray."

Liskag nodded his grim head, the cloth falling off. His right eye replaced with a chunk of warpstone. "I wouldn't wish-dream of it."

The Eshinite grinned once more and then left, his body becoming one with the darkness. Liskag then realised that he had no idea when the apprentice and Sklash would be arriving.

He snarled at the thought of the former warlord. It was that idiotic fool who had stolen his eyesight from him. Liskag moved his clawed hand up to touch the luminescent crystal that resided in his right eye socket.

While this implant caused a constant pain upon the usurper, he had grown in strength. His might was well known throughout the clan now, after he single-handedly brought down a rat ogre without using his own blade. He chuckled at the thought of the displayed event. No one knew Shadowclawwe had secretly poisoned the beast, making it easy pickings for Liskag. None the less, he had more power now. Soon he could prove his worth to the Horned Rat and finally be rid of Sklash. Then, thought Liskag, vegence would be complete.

-------------------

Sklash felt pain course through his body once more as he battled to wake up and open his eyes. With excruciating pain and effort, Sklash's eyes opened up, staring into opaque darkness. Before the warlord could figure out what was happening, he pulled himself into an upright position, much to his disdain. The bleeding from his shoulder had stopped, but he felt the dull pain of a trace amount of the magical warpstone venom from Liskag's blade. Not enough to cause any severe effects, but it was still painful. Sklash felt his muscles cry out in pain as he attempted to stand, which was unsuccessful, so he lay down staring into the hopeless black dark.

Only realising this now, the tall rat noticed that the darkness was caused by a shadow of some sort of monument. In the odd twilight that seemed almost like the caverns he called home, Sklash was unable to make out what the monument was. Making another attempt with more determination this time, the warlord was able to stand on his own two feet. He grimaced with the sheer amount of pain that surged throughout his large, for a Skaven, frame. He dropped his right arm to his side, and to his relief his furry fingers grasped his luminescent blade.

Drawing the light blade, Sklash felt a twinge of pain, but that was it. This puzzled him, as it seemed his body was recovering at an unnatural rate. That's when he felt the strange warmth around his chest. Gripping his chest, his hand gripped around an object that wasn't there before. Curiosity got the better of the warrior and he popped it out from under his armour. A small chunk of warpstone with an odd etching on it flashed in the air for a moment before it landed in his outstretched paw. Sklash regarded the amulet with a bit of suspicion, having this trait ingrained in his mind from ages of experience. Placing the mystical medallion on the ground in front of him, Sklash tried to cut it with his blade. As soon as the metal touched the warpstone, a great green flash shone from the talisman, sending the warlord reeling.

Trying to get the multitude of flashing dots out of his sight, Sklash noticed that the light was still streaming from the medallion. The warlord looked away from the magical amulet as he could now make out the building that had cast a shadow over him.

The building was a grizzly monument, with a strange bluish liquid flowing down its steps. It was elegantly constructed, with a great care invested in its complexity, with contrasting figures hanging around the monument, with quite a few skulls adorning the steps.

Suddenly, the massive shrine began to glow an eerie green to change into an electric blue and then back into the green. At the same time, Sklash noticed movement at the top of the monument, as an ancient beast began to stir atop the edifice. The only aspect of the monster the warlord could make out was the narrow luminescent blue eyes.

Sklash took steps back as he realised that whatever was on top of the massive monument was watching him closely. Clutching his blade tightly, the armoured rat stood his ground glaring up at the enormous monstrosity above him.

Without warning, the beast leaped into the air, unfurling its wings. Sklash then immediately could make out what the thing's features were. A huge blue tinged body with a bird-like head descended towards him, with large wings and skinny arms. Its taloned feet landed a few feet from the frightened warlord. Its eyes were an abyss of knowledge, gathered over a milleum of experience. The creature simply gazed at Sklash, seemingly analyzing him. The warlord had heard tales of such creatures. They ruined entire armies in moments with their almost unlimited magical might. The creature standing in front of him was a Lord of Change.

"Are you the one known as Sklash?" asked the Lord of Change, its voice booming with the intelligence of infinite great minds.

"Ye-Ye-Yes-yes. I am great-great war-warlord Sklash. What-what are you?" The warlord was shaking with fear, as the creature lowered its head so that the beak was only a few inches from Sklash's own face.

"I am the great representative of the Changer of Ways." The thing chuckled in amusement at Sklash's cringe at its foul breath. "You are to call me Ra'They'Lash. The Great Changer, Tzeentch, is seeing fit to have you lead the Skaven in his name." Ra'They'Lash's arm was pointing to Sklash, a mere centimetre away from his armour. The warlord could feel the sheer intensity of the chaotic magic that surrounded the Greater Daemon.

"Why me-me?" asked Sklash, trying to look confident despite the fear coursing through his body.

"Do not ask me, warlord," boomed Ra'They'Lash. "Tzeentch always has his plans. Our job as his creations is to obey."

Tightening his grip on his magical blade, Sklash looked defiantly into the ageless eyes of the Lord of Change. "I obey the Great-Great Horned One. I do not-not worship this Great-Great Changer. I have no-no business with him. Leave-leave now, big bird."

Ra'They'Lash simply chuckled, in a demeaning way. "Your Horned Rat is a Lesser God. He is a minion of Tzeentch who has gone astray. Your kind has Tzeentch to thank for your existence, not some worthless 'Horned Rat'."

Sklash snarled at the massive beast. "The Horned Rat is al-almighty! This Tzeentch god-god is likely a figment of your thoughts-imagination. Leave-leave now!"

The Lord of Change now was looking at the Skaven warlord with a frustrated gaze. "Do not forget your spot, rat. You will bend to my will. I will show you my might..."

Sklash felt a searing pain occur inside his head. Dropping to his knees, the warlord let out a high pitched squeal of pain. He felt his consciousness begin to fade as the world around him fell into a hopeless abyss of darkness.

Suddenly, Sklash saw to massive beings standing against one another. One was Ra'They'Lash and the other was another towering Greater Daemon. It was covered in brown fur and had four enormous horns protruding its skull, two pointing up and two pointing down. It wielded a massive glaive and had eyes that burned red. Sklash recognized it as a Vermin Lord, a deceased Lord of Decay that served as a servant of the Horned Rat.

Leaping up to strike Ra'They'Lash, the Vermin Lord raised its Doom Glaive. But before the blow landed, Ra'They'Lash lifted its frail arms and spoke a single word that was inaudible to Sklash. An enormous vortex opened up before the monstrous servant of the Horned One, sucking him back into the warp from which he had come. Despite not being able to hear, the warlord was able to feel the screaming of the Vermin Lord as it was slowly consumed.

Without warning, the image shattered and Sklash found himself lying on the ground before the Lord of Change, its eyes glittering with energy and its beak forming a foul satire of a grin. "Now you understand who is weak and worthless."

The warlord stood before Ra'They'Lash and shook with sheer fear of the power it had displayed. "Ve-ve-very well-well. What-what is it that you wish-wish with me?"

The Greater Daemon of Tzeentch let loose one of its arrogant chuckles. "Much better. Now I will give you the power to enact your revenge on Liskag and recover power of your clan. You are to commit your clan and yourself to the way of the Changer for eternity. In return, you will get a small portion of my infinite power."

Understanding what this meant, Sklash jumped on the opportunity. "It will be done-done."

"Excellent..."

After hours of mindless chants, Sklash felt a surge of energy course his body and he fell limp once more into a state of unconsciousness. When he awoke, the warlord had two metal bracers on his arms and a glowing mark on his forehead. Standing up, the Skaven hefted his weapon and shield with new found strength. With his electric blue eyes and silvery fur, he moved south to exit this tunnel. For he was no longer Sklash, but Ska'They, Harbinger of Change.

1 person got it right...

Now marches the might of Clan Wraneklaw! Fear-fear them!

Pics up tomorrow of my assembled 500pt force with some others popping in to say hello.

I might as well give you guys a proper update though. So here's a little bit of fluff I'm writing now. I may or may not edit this and put it up on the front of my gnoblog.

A Brief History of Clan Wraneklaw

Pre-Wraneklaw
The Clan known as Clan Wraneklaw was originally known as Clan Skrark and was one of many small clans that inhabited the area surrounding Crookback Mountain. Clan Skrark was a very common clan; picking off those weaker than it and hiding from those who are stronger than it. Its existence was spent eliminating smaller clans such as Clan Nithra and Clan Grast, while fleeing from the likes of Clan Skab and Clan Rictus. It was often in inner turmoil, having had 12 warlords during the course of 2 months. However, Clan Wraneklaw was not to forever remain small and insignificant, for the 13th warlord to ascend the throne of the clan decided to make a significant change to the clan.

Pre-Second Skaven Civil War
Skraith was the 13th warlord to ascend the position of power in Clan Skrark within only two months, and decided he didn't think any other warlords needed to usurp him. Skraith changed the name of the clan to Clan Wraneklaw for reasons that are unknown. The clan quickly became prosperous under his rule, but not too much so.

By the end of the month, Clan Wraneklaw had stormed the small dwarf hold of Karak Kazgar and eradicated all the dwarfs within the hold as well as all the hiding night goblins and Skaven who hid in the shadows. Skraith took the throne of the dwarf lord who led the final resistance against his clan as a symbol of his power. The once proud throne lost much of its shine and the runes began to fade over time. It is marred by many scratch marks from Skraith riding into battle onto it and from all the attacks he dodged upon it.

However, Clan Wraneklaw soon was faced with a very difficult decision in the near future...

Second Skaven Civil War
After Pestilens's second failed plague, the Council erupted into outrage and the Skaven population was once more plunged into civil war. During this time, many clans grew in power and reputation during this chaotic period. One of which was Clan Mors, who consumed enemy clans at a rapid rate thanks to the ruthlessness of both Lord Gnawdwell and Warlord Queek Head-Taker.

Another one is Clan Wraneklaw. Under Skraith's guidance, Wraneklaw picked the right fights and began to ascend the ranks of fellow clans and began to be feared by many in the region. However, this success was appreciated by Mors, who controlled the nearby City of Pillars and saw Wraneklaw as a huge threat.

Despite hiring many assassins from Clan Eshin, Skraith only learned of the attack that was being planned by Gnawdwell from using some small rats given to him by Moulder and being implanted with a prototypical recording device from Skyre. This enraged Skraith, blaming Eshin for giving him lack-lustre adepts who "couldn't spy-spy on a man-thing from the shadows". Eshin didn't take kindly to his insults and attempted to kill the warlord of Clan Wraneklaw on a number of occasions using many assassins.

Of all the assassins that was tasked to hunting Skraith down, only one almost took Skraith's life, with the warlord losing an eye in the encounter. This not only further escalated the hate from Skraith but it caused Skraith to retire from the field of battle to better learn how to twist words in the field of politics. While this could be seen as a good thing, it actually made Clan Wraneklaw more successful.

Near the end of the civil war, Mors launched its massive assault on Wraneklaw. Siding with Eshin, they had several skilled adepts sent in to contaminate the food and water supply of the rival clan. The Eshinites entered into the former dwarven hold but did not return to Mors. Having eliminated a ridiculous amount of opposing clans, Gnawdwell had become cocky and marched his army into Karak Kazgar, believing the assassins had done their duty and returned to Clan Eshin.

However, inside Wraneklaw had left a little surprise for Mors. Not only had the clan retreated from Karak Kazgar, but had left a few bloodthirsty monstrosities, courtesy of Clan Moulder, behind as a treat to Clan Mors. The army, which was but a small portion of Mors, luckily for Gnawdwell, was butchered and sent fleeing from the hold. By the end of the civil war, Clan Wraneklaw had dropped off the map and bruised Clan Mors's pride but no one ever learned of this failed assault on Wraneklaw to protect Clan Mors's reputation.

Post-Second Civil War
Despite its moral victory over Clan Mors, Skraith realised it would be suicidal to continue to live near the ruthless rival and fled northwards. They captured some small clans while consuming another dwarven hold, Karak Rakaz. This is now the base of operations for Clan Wraneklaw, which is close enough to both Skavenblight, Hell Pit, and Mordheim for the clan to fulfill many duties and goals.

While they managed to enrage two powerful clans, Clan Wraneklaw had grown close to another. Clan Moulder and Clan Wraneklaw had very close ties after the civil war, both aiding the other when needed. It is said that Packlord Verminkin and Lord Skraith meet occasionally to speak of strategies and possible political tactics to employ to better their clans.

Not only did Wraneklaw warm up to Moulder, but they have an ally in Lord Vittrik. While he is not as open about it as Verminkin and Moulder, Wraneklaw is very religious and is a high contributor in sacrifices for the Horned Rat. Not only this, but Skraith and Vittrik share a loathing for the brutal Clan Mors. As a result, Vittrik receives a great deal of backing from Skraith, despite his tenuous hold on his seat of the Council. Many of their political desires are the same, as well, so it simply makes sense for the two to ally themselves.

However, Skraith is a very ambitious rat who has spoken openly to his allies about a desire to sit on the Council. While Verminkin and Moulder would embrace having Skraith on the Council, Vittrik isn't so easily convinced. This is due to his fear that it would be himself who would lose his seat to the powerful warlord, due to him being the weakest member of the Council. Whenever the subject of Skraith being on the Council comes up, Vittrik begins to fidget nervously. Skraith knows this is a good way of controlling the paranoid grey seer, and plays this card whenever in need of Vittrik's assistance.

However, Clan Wraneklaw makes another ally from the aftermath of another enormous war that shoke the foundation of the world to the core...

Amazing stuff mate. I like how you inter-weave your clan so successfully with the "real" clans. Simply superb!

Do me a favour and PM a bit of info of all of the GW "official" clans you know of, please? :)

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.

And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.
