Should Leadbelchers be given command?

original thread ↗

Hi, just bought 4 leadbelchers and wondering if i should make command for them?
no! use 2 units of two, no upgrades!
I agree with Kyte. A thunderfist with only 1 more attack doesn't help much in any combat as a unit of two Leadbelchers won't get far. A Bellower could be nice but is a bit of a point-sink.
Coming soon from Grokfol's Gnoblar Workteam:
Yorfarg and Ashadrianus [special characters]
You can also field a unit of 3 with a mucisian, that way if you decide or forced to flee for any reason, you can always bring them back on a leadership of 8 if not in generals range.
Who will be the next Khan in the Ogre Kingdoms?
No more than 2 LB's in a regiment. No command.

IMO.

Tor- Eivind.
Well I usually field my leadbelchers in flanking units of two, sans upgrades.

On the other hand a champion cost only 10 points, so if you field larger units I would take a champ.

EDIT: A musician of course...

I had to Google Big Red Book to figure out it meant the WFB rulebook - I thought it had something to do with Mao.

Either units of 2 or units of 3... but if you want to use them as bait, flee, rally shoot (like I do), you might want to get a musician. LBs seem like created for this.
cheers

they are named:
Bodo, Giugi, Oscar, Spank, Grizo,

Use units of 2 to 3 no comand if you have the points a bellower for units with 3 in them.
Take musician, always.. The rally'ing on a ld. 8 is perfect combined with their reload rule! So unit of 2 with muso, 120 points.. Cheap enough..
personnally no. i only take any command models for units i want in CC. ie large units of bulls and ironguts. the rest its just a points sink. 10pts here and there for a musician which in my experience im not going to use. buy yourself another ogre or a unit of gnoblar. far far better investment.
i can see the use for a musician but i wouldnt take him there not ment for combat
"BOOM hur hur hur.........."
musician only, for improved rallying

Yep, two 'belchers and a bellower to help them rally.

Move into range of the enemy, blast away with leadbelcher cannon, flee if charged, rally & reload and repeat.
And the Baby Ogre said: "Someone's been eating my Gnoblars too! And they've eaten them all up!"

My gnobbos are called Dutch, Dillon, Mac, Blain and Billy

Ogre tactics page
That tactic is the only thing that actually makes Leadbelchers worth their points. Once an opponent has been on the receiving end of repeated LB rallies, he will change the way he plays against OK.

QFT

The blast and flee LB technique is the most effective way I've found to use them as well.

I agree with Kyte units of 2 and a bellower nothing more.
Thanks Alot !

Richie
Units of 2 or 3, if 2 no command, if 3 go for the bellower, never get a champion, waste of points in this unit, as in most OK units.

Well... one nice thing about including a thunderfist is that it will take two more wounds to lose your first model. Just direct your third and fourth wound on the champ.

That means your leadbelchers can take your average magic missile and not suffer a casualty. They won't have to take that panic test, and they are still at full strength for shooting and rank breaking purposes.

That said, I field two units of two ladbelchers with no upgrades.

I'm pretty sure this is not allowed.  If your champion is specifically wounded in combat, you have to keep track of that separately.  However, I don't think you're allowed to spread shooting wounds out over the unit to avoid removing a model.

True.
Of course it is permissable. The Ogre armybook reminds us that wounds on champions must, indeed, be tallied seperately.

Normally, a player may remove a champion, musician or standard bearer as a casualty, it just wouldn't be a good idea to do so normally. Now, if you can remove a champion as a casualty, I don't see why you can't direct a wound on a multi-wound champion.

Nothing personal, but this sounds rules lawyer/loophole-ish to me.  I would not do this.
