original thread ↗

I'm starting to turn into Corai a little.. because I've started another army. So after the Big Hat, Maximilian's Minions and WAAAGH! Gnoblogs, it's time to start a new one.

I've always liked the mini's for Dogs of War. Enormous pikes, supercool looking armour, yay! They're really the only human mini's I like. So when I saw some pikemen on Ebay for cheap, I decided to buy them. A few days later my wallet is empty, and I have a Dogs of War army.. ^^

The first thing I'm building is a unit of 28 pikemen (4x7). I'm using the Ricco's Republican Guard mini's and that's the look I want for the army. So no Spanish Conquistadors, or Slayer Pirates, but just humans in armour. If the Dogs of War list is dropped, I can always use them as an Empire army.

I will post some pics soon!

It's good to see a new DoW army started up :) What colour schemes and stuff you going for? :)

I'm going for the classic Bronze armour and I'll add the Green/white scheme from my Vampire Counts.

Josh, I see you play DoW too. What list are you using? My list is going to have a lot of pikemen, because I love the models, but I heard that Duellists are really the best core choice..

The first pics are here! =D

The 28 (ok, 27 + character) men strong pikemen unit. I just love how they look. 28 pointy sticks pointing your way.

And this is how I'm going to paint them all.

And this is the Pegasus for my captain. It's just the basic Brettonnian Pegasus.

The model looks good.
I can't see much of the highlights because of light reflection on the pikemen.
You are going to make the bases lighter right?

I gave the bases another drybrush of Bubonic Brown, so they are a little lighter now. But with the yellowish grass I think it looks good enough.

Nice looking minis (the bronze is coming out good, and I can see the highlights on this most recent mini). The pikemen are all metal right? I'd hate to have to move that unit- ouch.

Your painting is amazing :) Well done :) Yes, they are all metal :| I replaced (well a friend :P) the pikes with brass rod, cause it's the most upsetting thing in the world, when you've got a beautifully painted pikemen unit, and then the pikes get a little bent, and the paint chips off :(

Josh, I see you play DoW too. What list are you using? My list is going to have a lot of pikemen, because I love the models, but I heard that Duellists are really the best core choice..

By far, the must have unit for DoW and RoR is Braganza's Besieger's! :) Crossbowmne with a very decent BS, and an awesome armour save (3+ IIRC) :)

Although, I love the cursed company also :)

My list is made up entirely of RoR, and I am just chopping and dicing my list up a bit, ready for my saturday night game, and I'll show ya :)

Well, I have 20 of the Braganza's Besiegers models, so I might have to use them sometimes. They're also very cool models :)

For now, instead of painting, I've been working on some cavalry models.

Light Cavalry, using old Pistolier models on new Pistolier horses.

Heavy Cavalry, using new Pistolier models on the new Chaos Knight Horses. It took forever to remove all the spiky bitz ^^

The old Empire Knights just look so small..

They look impressive. One thing I'm seeing that is recognizably chaosy are the edging-spikes (I made that word up). If you look on the horse's head in the last picture, that little triangular bit on it's helmet that is part of the armor's edge, those things just scream chaos.

I really really like the Knights, however, like Reg06 has said before, the heads scream 'CHAOSSSSS GAHHHHH CHAOS WE ARE EVIL EEEEEVIL MWHAHAHAHAHA', or something along that lines :D

What i suggest, is that you use the old knight's horse heads, the size difference looks roughly the same, and they would look more..well...'un-anarchistic'

In the last few days I've started to work on my Dogs of War again. I had to finish my Vampire Counts for a tournament after Christmas, so they got most of my attention. But, I did manage to paint about 1000 points of Vampire Counts in a week, and won the Best Painted award at the tournament, so it was worth it.

But now it's 2009, and I managed to finish two units for my DoW army!

First my Mercenary general on Pegasus:

And the infamous Halfling Hot Pot (I know, Cannons are a better rare choice, but I just loooooooove Halflings <3)
It's basicly still WIP, since I need to add some static grass.

Now I'm working on my massive pikemen unit again. They're just so many models.. :'(

So I started to think about the next unit I'm going to build. My Paymaster. I'm thinking about using this model:

Is it Paymaster-y enough, or does it look like a Warrior priest too much?

Hi guys,

Super-bump on this topic! I recently rediscoved this gem, and had a good chuckle. This thread really shows off my growing interest in the old Halfling models, and since my last post here they've gotten a lot of friends. I've sold all my other Dogs of War, but Halfling collection has grown into a huge Empire army. So enough talking, here are some pics! It's a copy-paste to show the descent into madness I've gone through ;p
It's an army from the Moot. So lots and lots of Halflings! YAY! When the army's finished I should have painted about 200 of the little guys!

The army is not going to be a game winner, but it should look cool on the tabletop!

It should look a little like this:

Every model is GW, but some of them are very old..

The models that I use as Greatswords are from 1984, so they're even older than me! ;o

And now for some painted pics!

This was a small 750 pts army that I had to finish for a tournament. At the time I didn't have time to finish the banners and shields yet.

50 Free Company, 20 Greatswords, a Captain BSB, a wizard and a Mortar with customized template ;p

Halflings have their own Steam Tank of course, but the standard version is waaaaaay too big for these cute little fellows. So they have their own model:

A unit of Huntsmen with a skirmish movementtray:

Crappy pic of my warrior priest:

My very cute little Pegasus rider:

And my BSB:

So this is where the army is currently at:

This was at a tournament last week where I managed to win second place and best painted!

Another "Mortar"

And a Halfling sized Helblaster Volley Gun!

And now the good stuff. I'm working on my unit of Flaggelants. The first rank is finished.

I also got to have some fun with the conversions, like this unit filler.

And finally, the entire unit.

I have been working on a War Altar and really wanted to share some pics.

Yeaahh.. I forgot to take pictures of the entire model, and focused on the part I'm really proud of; the bored Arch Lector that's sitting on top of a pizza oven.

I've also finished a Cockatrice for a tournament this weekend. He will probably be used as a Griffon for my General later.

I've been sculpting the last week, and this is was I came up with. I started out sculpting a bad ass mounted Warrior Priestess, but I ended up with a Disney Princess. Never thought I would put my Disney Princess knowledge to practical use..

I leave it up to you guys to tell what Princess it is supposed to be ;p

And now it's time for some manly sports, cars and facial hair ;p

I've been quite busy with these little guys, so I have a lot to show you guys! :)

Let's start with a painted pic of my mounted Arch Lector and her friends at a recent tournament:

After that we started a campaign with my gaming group. So far it's great fun and a nice way to stay motivated with painted my army! For the campaign we play on a map, and I had to make a marker for my capitol city:

We had to build three lists for the campaign and each army also had to have a marker. So I decided to build a themed general and BSB for each list, and make a copy of the banners for my army markers. I have the army of my general with State Troops, a Girl Power army filled with Flaggelants and a Farmers army with a lot of Free Company:

So this is what the map looked like before turn 1:

Here's the town of Deephallow in the Black Marsh, surrounded by Dark Elves in the South, and Goblins to the north.

And here's an overview of the entire map. I think it's looking really cool with all those markers!

And now it's time for some pics of the models I've painted.

First, a cannon.

And now the real fun, the second unit of Flaggelants:

Close-up of a Flaggelant unit filler.

And I've expanded my unit Greatswords to 30:

And here's the big update. After playing with a lot of unpainted mini's for a while, I finally finished all the mini's in my Generals army in the campaign.

I present to you guys my unit of 50 Halberdiers, the Cuddly Bunnies:

With the banner of cuteness:

I think it turned out pretty good. Ironically in the campaign this unit has fought so well it now causes fear. But lets call it a cuteness check instead of a fear check, when you fail it the unit is too cute to be hit normally ;p

And some more progress, my general on Griffon. It didn't turn out as well as the Pegapony, but it's good enough for the campaign.

And finally a unit of Handgunners:

So here's what my General's army looks like at the moment in the campaign:

Here's another update on the Chicken Knights. I guess they're finished, although I'm not really happy about the Knights themselves.

Close-up on the champion with the Chickenslayer helmet and cloak.

And close-up on the musician.

The sculpting on these guys took so much time, so I'm kinda sick of them ;p In the meantime I've also been working on my armylist, and I don't even know if I can fit these Knights in. Might have to work on a Hurricanum, but I'm not really motivated at the moment...

First, I've finished greenstuff work on my Witch Hunter. First plan was to use a pistol from the Pistolier set, but that was bigger than the Halfling...

And I've started planning the Hurricanum. I've decided the idea of a windmill would make the most interesting centrepiece model, so that's what I'm going to try to make :)

So today I wanted to make the basic shape of the windmill. I was not really sure about the size, so I started cutting some cardboard and after some changes, here's what it will look like when it's finished:

So as you can see it's quite big, but not too big. Here's what one of the first mock-ups looked like:

From here I will add a layer of balsawood to form the details, and I still have to figure out the cart-part, the part where the wheels attach to the mill... And also I keep thinking poor horsies... so maybe I have to think of something else to pull the cart.

And here's another update on the mill. I just can't seem to put this project down! So here's the basic structure. It still needs all the detailing, but I really like the way it's turning out. It's pretty big, but I don't know if it's that much bigger than GWs Hurricanum...

And this is the basic plan for transporting. It can break up into four pieces. I might add magnets, but for now it seems it's doesn't really need it.

And here's the basic construction done! Now I get to add fun little details like flowers, mice and cats! :D

I've working on the mill some more, and finished the first little details.

Here's the millers wife.

And the lazy old millers cat.

Work on the mill has halted since I want to add some more details, but I'm not really sure what or where...

So I've painted my Witch Hunter :)

And here he's showing off his scarred face...

And finally facing off against his most deadly enemy...

Today I started painting my mill. So far it's going pretty good, I think I just need to add some freehands (and of course the main 'blades').

Here's the miller and his animals:

And his wife:

Here are the Demigryph Knights!

At the moment I'm working on 6 normal Knights for the tournament Sunday. I will try to make an army pic tomorrow, or else I'll make some at the tournament :)

I just had to check if I had all the models I need for the tournament tomorrow, so here's an army pic.

Thanks guys! You are not the only guys who like this army, because me and a friend won best painted at yesterdays tournament! We played with a team of 5 guys (the Pin Up Models) and had to choose 2 to nominate for best painted. I still can't believe we actually won! There were lots of guys taking pics of our armies, so hopefully they're will be some more online soon :)

Thanks :)

Yeah, since I've figured out how to make molds and how to casting the conversion opportunities have gone through the roof! It's way easier to sculpt one basic model and use that as a start to sculpt a unit on than to have to sculpt all the models. And it's just so much fun to see loads of duplicates of your own model :)

Yeah, I have been toying with mold-making and casting, but mainly bases at the moment. I have been contemplating casting up some models, because as you said, it must be really rewarding to see copies of your models across the whole army :)

I must ask, what do you use to make the boxing for a two-part mold? :) Most people build an outline using Lego, but I was curious as to what you use :)

Awesome :) And what do you use to initially suspend the model whilst making the first park of the mold? Some people use some sort of clay, but I am unsure on what this is :)

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.

And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.
I went to the toystore and got the cheapest clay I could find. It's not perfect, but works good enough. Some more expensive artists sculpting clay might work better though...
