Hobby Hero Awards 2008 - Category 3 - Achievement in Tactics and strategy
so the nomination are in and it's tim to start voting for who the Ogre Stronghold members want to award the coveted title of Hobby Hero to this year.
Category 1 - Achievement in Tactics and Strategy, celebrates the progress and success of a members skills the tactical elements of the game. This encompasses all strategic elements from list building right through to deciding when not to issue a challenge etc! Sometimes this can mean showing a consitently excellant standard of strategic input, other times it means coming along leap and bounds in a single year, or even developing a tacic, list idea or radical new approach which hasn't been seen before and can benefit the community as a whole. It really says something about the calibre of this years nominees that so many people made nominations and yet only three names came up, clearly they are making a lasting impact on the minds of the community and I congratulate them for not only being nomninated, but for doing so with such an overwhelming majority of votes from members. The following are this years nominees. Please rememeber when voting that the award is for the achievement in Tactics and Strategy this year.
1: Wildcard
2: Speedkills
3: Bob the Butcher
So there you have the nominees. Each has contriuted to the collective Stronghold tactical accumen in one way or another over the past year and this is your chance to reward the member you think has achieved the most in this field.
The polls will stay open until 20th December at which point we will crown this year's Hobby Heroes!
Thanks Corai

Have to pick Wildcard on this one. He's open to new ideas, and discussing how they work. A tactically sound mind, one of the best. And he loves trappers so much, entire posts have been dedicated to that single word... TRAPPERS! Doesn't get much better than that.

Wildcard for me three His Artof Play is an instrumental part of gaming, and I know that has nothing to do with tactics, but it's awesome nonetheless His advice on strategy is always helpful, and more often better than anything I'd ever have come up with on my own, and so many times have his pieces of advice been instrumental in games I have played

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.
And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.
SpeedKills04 Dec 2008

Very strong candidates, but for me 2008 saw Speedy break onto the Stronghold with very different tactics and strat for the Ogre army that was quite refreshing, the constant testing, bat reps, and discussion he produced was well thought out and executed. Well done.
Well done and good luck to all nominees!

I have to second that. WC always has been, and probably always will be, a master tactician, but the member who focused most on strategy and did the most work in that field, for me, is Speedkills.

If by RAW, you mean "Reg06's Audacious Whims", then you'd be right.

I third that. I might not pay much attention to the Ogre tactics due to my... Err... Lack of models of that army, but his battle reports are amazing seeing that he always has a camera for a game so he can show exactly what is going on. But all these nominees have contributed and they are all very helpful for newcomers to OK and everyone who has hit a snag.

I picked Wildcard because he answered every single tactics post I put up when I was trying to learn how to play ogres. I use most of his suggestions today.
