Arrer Boyz!

original thread ↗

Hello everyone, here is a new version of that chronically underused orc unit, arrer boyz. What I've tried to do here with these changes is multi-fold. For one, their move to special and added special rules is there to represent how genuinely unusual these boys are compared to the normal orc. There is definitely something a little off about an orc who picks up a bow in the first place! Secondly, the addition of the skirmish rule completely eliminates all of the ranking problems that have plagued arrer boyz for about five editions. Now they can be arranged in any formation you like without bowstrings being stuck in painful locations. Finally, with the concept of the orc bow, I've introduced some modeling flexibility. An orc bow can as easily represented by a modified, pirated crossbow as it can by a bow as thick as an arm. If a modeler felt so inclined, he could compose his arrer boy unit with either the original models or he could convincingly use Ruglud's armored orcs for the same job.

Let me know what you think.

Arrer Boyz – 8 Points per Model

Special

   M   WS   BS   S   T   W   I   A   Ld   Sv
Arrer Boy   4   3   3   3   4   1   2   1   7   6+
Boss   4   4   3   4   4   1   2   2   7   6+
Unit Size: 10-20

Equipment: Choppa, Light Armor, Orc Bow

Options:
•   Any unit may upgrade one Arrer Boy to a Boss (+15 points).
•   Any unit may upgrade one Arrer Boy to a Musician (+5 points).

Special Rules: Skirmishers, Let ‘em Loose, Boyz!

Let ‘em Loose, Boyz! – If a six is rolled when testing for animosity, the unit will immediately fire its missile weapons at the closest enemy unit in range. Afterwards, the unit acts as normal for the rest of the turn. This result supersedes the normal result of rolling a six when testing for animosity.

Orc Bow – Range 24”, Strength 4.
As an O&G general very fond of my crazed brutish arrer boyz, I have to say I like most of these changes. The Orc Bow does seem a bit overpowered and how come the Arrer Boyz get 2 attacks each? Other than that, good job :)

Evii, you speak sense

This is Livalil. He is the little devil on my shoulder.

This is Edward the Vampire Gnoblar. He is the king of epic fail.

How to deal with Star Dragons as told by famous Mongolian warlord, Genghis Khan:

Raise your fist and as you land to smash his dragon say: killingblow mtf.
EverHunger, they only have 1 attack. Because the spaces in post don't line up like they do in the text box the numbers slid over. That 2 is init.
And I like all of the changes, which are very reasonable. The bow does seem powerful though. It has the strength and range of a crossbow, but none of the draw backs. What about a normal bow with armor piercing? Or S4 but shorter range?

If by RAW, you mean "Reg06's Audacious Whims", then you'd be right.

The orc bow is only range 24". A crossbow has a range of 30".

The way I look at it, this orc bow is like a sub par version of the handgun.
I like it!  I'm going to field my Arrers just like that I think, when I get them :).  You could still leave tham as core though, maybe just not contributing the the minimum?

No Alpesh, they are not Cannon of Khorne, they are small pieces of loft insulation and your hair is enormous!
Still threadomancing. This thread was 9 months old Florentine Pogen.
