Flashy Necrons for a friend - Comission Gnoblog

original thread ↗

So to delay my painting even further (cause I don't do it enough myself) I've been painting necrons for a friend of mine. I've done a few units of warriors and monoliths, and I decided that I may as well put up a few pictures of what I had done.
Please note, the paint scheme and colours were his ideas. I have gotten a lot of criticism for them when I paint at my GW, I did not pick these colours.
If you are wondering what the colours are, two of them are a special mix:
Lich Purple with Mythril Silver
Regal Blue with Boltgun Metal.
He mixed them himself, but I think it's 3:1 for both of them.

Let's start with the "mundane" warriors that we managed to make strike a few good poses:

BOOM! HEADSHOT!

Tomb Spiders:

Monoliths:

Battle damaged, but "living Metal" seems to be repairing it pretty well:

The Deceiver:

I still have a lot to work on for him, but I'm slowly going threw it all, in between my Dark Elves/Dark Eldar/Ogres/Chaos Warriors/Etc.
Comments and suggestions are always appreciated.

the models are cool but i think the living metal on the monolith could be cool but the huge space inside the model needs filling with something i cant imagine the monolith being a hollow cube containing nothing
"i dont do small armies"

You should add some scrap metal to the hole on the monolith or it will look hollow outside... but nice army tough!
The colour scheme is oure awesomeness contained in tiny little plastic bodies :) However, I don't like the dramatic poses :|

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.

And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.
I'm sorry, but I disagree. The color scheme is horrible in a bad way, although the painting is very nice. :?

The poses are a bit weird, and destroys the mental image of Necrons as a shambling, metallic undead horde (see the front of the Necron book for what I mean). The running ones conflict with this image a lot but are very nicely executed. The sitting ones are worse. Why are they sitting down? :o

"Needs Moar Manowar"
I agree with Manowar on this on. I like Necrons in static, shambling poses, I don't think dynamic models are very Necrony. And I don't really like the color scheme. I think the monolith looks good (except for the hollow body, that needs changing), but the purple & blue 'crons just don't work for me.

If by RAW, you mean "Reg06's Audacious Whims", then you'd be right.

i think the poses would better suit Imperial Guard.  Necrons are supposed to move like undead.  A shambling horde that is slow but menacing.
Why are they sitting down? :o

Because they're tired :P anyway I don't seem to see any flaw in the modelling painting good job :D

Thanks for the input.
To answer a few questions:
1. The broken monolith isn't finished yet, it wont be hollow
2. I didn't pick the colour scheme, or pose the models (the broken monolith is the only one I put together), My client wanted very different necrons because he kapt hearing "Most boring army ever!" from a lot of people (especially me) so he decided to make them WAY out there and different. (Imagine sitting in your GW painting these and having people go "Ooh, necrons... oh... interesting..." then trying to explain what I'm doing.)
3. The necrons sitting down are supposed to be broken below the waist, just didn't get a good angle of it

After the Necrons, I'll be working on his Tyranids or Chaos Marines, which will have a much more serious tone to it.

Necrons on drugs?

I think they're cool, anyways.

Technically, the 'Dont' in the phrase 'Dont you get it?' should have an apostrophe in it, between the 'n' and the 't'.
