I am working on creating a 1000 point Slayer Army. I will likely bump this up to 1500, maybe even 2000 but for now I am focusing on just the 1000 point list.
The list is as follows:
Slayers of Karak Kadrin Heroes
Dragon Slayer @ 115 - Beastslayer - Rune of Fury
Core
Troll Slayers x 10 @ 110
Troll Slayers x 10 @ 110
Doomseekers x 3 @ 195
Special
Brotherhood of Grimnir x 10 @ 140
Long Drong Slayer Pirates x 10 @ 195
Rare
Goblin-Hewer @ 130
Total: 995 points (of 1000)
I decided not to go with any standards or command as Slayers hardly need them, but maybe I am missing something else. The tactics are pretty straight forward, move forward and kill kill kill!! Not a very subtle army, and probably not the most fun to play against .. but hopefully fun to assemble and paint!
I have never played Dwarfs so any C&C are very much welcome.
Thanks for reading.

No other Dwarf or Slayer players on the forum huh? Maybe I will head over to Bugman's and see what they think about the list.
I am having trouble finding the Doomseeker and Long Drong models, but I hope to have some solutions by the end of next week. I have begun assembly and I still have about 15 Slayers to clean. So much flash!

I'm no Dwarf expert, but units of 10 seem a little small to me. I'd remove the Pirates and boost the other units to 15.

Hey randroid... i actually ran a SoC slayer army at 1k for a little while... i ran pretty much the samebut without the goblin hewer in order to increase the unit sizes... i know casualties don't matter for moral but it'll boost general survivability and being able to get them 6-7 wide increases the damage output no end
oh and doom seekers are amazing
Took me 2 weeks to realise i have a trade gnoblar, Squinky ->

Woohoo! Feedback!
I'm no Dwarf expert, but units of 10 seem a little small to me. I'd remove the Pirates and boost the other units to 15.
10 is the minimum size for the unit and my goal was to have multiple units on the table instead of larger ones. Slayers are similar to Ogres in that they are expensive and don't really benefit from having larger troop blocks.
I will not be dropping the Pirates, in fact if anything I will be increasing their number! These guys will also be making their way into my Beer Gut Tribe army at some point. I love 'em!

Awesome! That means I am doing something right ...
I love the hewer and more importantly the character of Malakai. It really chews up infanty blocks and it is great for low Ld troops.
I plan on expanding this force to 1500 (maybe even 2000) so I will likely run units of 12-16 to get a larger frontage like you mentioned.

QFT! I am running 3 in this list, but I want to bump that up at a higher point total.
Thanks for the feedback and comments, more are of course welcome!

Two questions; 1) Is the extra 3 points per model on the Brotherhood really worth it? (I don't know the difference, as I don't have my Dwarf book with me right now!) 2) Does the Long Drong's have a command?

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.
And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.

If my memory serves me, the extra points for Brotherhood are well worth it as they have boosted WS & S... might be wrobng though, been a long time since i looked at the SoC book
And i dont think you can buy Regiments of Renown without command

No, neither did I, but the way the list was written, I weren't sure if the commands were there, but just not written down, or that they weren't being taken...

you have 44 slayers in your 1000 point army - if you were to go to 2000 points and double the number - and give them all little kato masks - you'd have the "crazy 88" and, with a female model dressed in a yellow jumpsuit - an excellent kill bill reference army too!
sorry - such an army was a dream of mine once upon a time....

Hewer is a cool thing but I'm not sure that it is really usefull in a 1k point army. BTW, did they stop to produce seekers? Hope they still do, cos I'm still dreaming about a Slayer army
Randroid28 Sep 2008
Doomseekers are out of print. I am having a hell of a time finding any right now.
Why are people so down on the Hewer? Sure its a bit of overkill, but so is an entire army of Slayers!

A slayer list? I never played with it or against it, but seems to me this is a bit like a one-trick pony to me. Aren't you afraid this army will get boring very soon....the same tactics, same models and colors -the big orange beards- to paint?

That was certainly a consideration when I decided to do this but my love for the Dwarf Slayers will see me through any rough patches. That is one of the reasons I tried to make my list more varied than "here is a bunch of Trollslayers" so I can play with all the cool stuff they have and see a bit more variety.
Plus I really want an army that plays the way I think Ogres should play, run in and kill kill kill! Not having to worry about things like CR, and just killing lots of stuff. It also allows me to get revenge on my club pals who play O&G, Chaos, and Skaven while having an ally with my buddy who plays Dwarfs.
I think it will be a very fun army to collect, but yes .. I did consider the idea that I might get bored of playing them. Luckily the models are pretty damn cool!

It's great when you can ignore all of the potential downsides of collecting an army, and focus on the fact that you just love the models

And then, when you've saturated your love for the models with 30+ Slayers, the negative sides resurface again like a bloated corpse from the swamp...

I'm sure there have been armies you collected and got rid of later down the road.

I think its a neat idea i did an entire space marine army of wolfen.the characters are kinda hard to make stand out, so go all out with them is my advice.

I probably won't have too many characters, but I intend to at least make them taller on the bases to get the point across (if I ever get my dang models in!!).

Well the month is flying by and I have had very little time to work on any models as of late. I did get the majority of the remaining models I needed for my list but I had to make a few tweaks.
Here is the reworked list to match the models I actually have. Heroes
Brotherhood of Grimnir x 10 @ 202 - Standard - Master Rune of Grimnir
Long Drong Slayer Pirates x 12 @ 195 - Standard - Musician
Rare
Goblin-Hewer @ 130
Total: 1000 points (of 1000)
I decided to sprig for the Master Rune of Grimnir as I don't feel like getting shot to bits as I march across the field, and I have only been able to secure two Doomseekers (so I dropped one to get the points for it). I upgraded two Trollslayers to Giantslayers with GW for any character smashing that needs to be done, and dropped the Rune of Fury on the Dragon Slayer as I was able to get the same +1 attack for just 4 points with the additional hand weapon.
I have 12 Long Drong pirates but no Long Drong himself! I need to find a musician and banner for them as well ...
I should be playing a game with this list next week so we'll see how it does. Comments, questions, and suggestions are welcome as always!
